Chapter 165: Chapter 177: Repaying Principal and Interest Tenfold (2)
He stepped on the stairs at the entrance of the Magnificent, quickly walked onto the road, ignored the speeding vehicles around him, and walked straight to his car. He opened the car door, carefully put Isabel Smith inside, and then circled around the car to get in himself.
As Percy held the car keys and started the car, the car window was knocked on twice. Percy glanced over and saw two traffic policemen outside, holding a fine in their hands.
Frowning, Percy didn’t roll down the window; instead, he pulled out his wallet and randomly took out a few banknotes. He then pressed the car window button with force, without even looking at the traffic police outside, threw the money out, and then stepped on the gas pedal. The car darted out like a leaving arrow, and before the two traffic policemen could react, Percy’s car had disappeared without a trace.
Inside the car, Isabel Smith turned her head, looking outside the car window, still silent. After leaving Percy’s embrace, she lost the warmth and comfort she had just felt, and her mood became even heavier.
Years ago, she had insisted on having her parents accompany her to Starhaven University to pick up Marion Hancock, which led to their fatal car accident. She knew that at the bottom of Elijah Smith’s heart, he had harbored resentment towards her for this.
However, she still held a glimmer of hope, thinking that she was Elijah Smith’s blood-related older sister, and even if he was angry with her, he wouldn’t really disregard his feelings for his sister and throw her into the hands of the wolves.
But up until now, even though she had managed to escape from danger, Elijah Smith never showed up, and he didn’t even make a single phone call to any of his friends.
It was impossible not to be upset, but overwhelming Isabel Smith was a chilling feeling in her heart. Though it was just late summer in Bellshire, she felt as if she were naked in the icy cold winter, so cold that she was gasping.
Percy tried to suppress the turmoil in his chest, just stomping on the accelerator, using the car to vent his emotions.
The two returned to the apartment parking lot in silence. Percy’s car speed remained unchanged, and with a smooth turn, it landed directly into his designated parking spot.
Percy pulled out the car key, got out of the car, walked to Isabel’s side, picked her up, kicked the car door closed, and carried Isabel to the elevator while pressing the lock button on the car key.
It was already midnight, and the elevator was empty. The two remained silent as they rode up.
Percy rushed so much that he hadn’t even locked the door of Isabel Smith’s apartment. The door was half-open, and he kicked it open, carrying Isabel inside. Fortunately, the security here was excellent, and there were no outsiders late at night, so the apartment was the same as when he had left.
Percy carried Isabel directly to the bedroom and placed her on the bed. Then he got up and walked out.
Isabel Smith felt something hard underneath her and reached out to touch it, finding her mobile phone.
The phone screen lit up from being pressed. Isabel Smith saw the notification of missed calls in the upper left corner of the screen and pressed the phone, only to find out that there were seven missed calls, all from Percy.
Without thinking, Isabel Smith wanted to ask Percy why he had called her so many times, so she lifted the quilt, got off the bed, and froze the moment her feet touched the ground.
She lowered her head and saw that the floor beneath her feet was covered with a thick, long-haired carpet. She looked around the room and found a new water set on the tea table in the bedroom.
Isabel Smith frowned, walking barefoot on the carpet to the tea table. She casually picked up a teapot, which had just been washed, water droplets hanging on its plastic surface.
