Chapter 156: Chapter 168: I’m Responsible for Her Life (9)
Edward Shaw was holding his mobile phone, not returning to his bedroom, but instead standing somewhat bored in the corridor, blowing out a couple of breaths, and killing time.
Before even a minute passed, the manager from "Magnificent" called back.
Edward Shaw answered the phone, remaining silent. The person on the other end then began speaking clearly and rigorously to Edward Shaw: "Brother Shaw, Mr. Elijah Smith is a senior member of Magnificent. He booked a private booth, 0001, for this night and invited thirteen top-notch young ladies who just arrived. However, about an hour ago, the Miss Isabel you’ve been looking for appeared..."
Edward Shaw frowned slightly at the mention of "the Miss Isabel you’re looking for", slightly displeased, but he didn’t interrupt the person on the other end of the phone, just quietly continued to listen with a darkening face.
"...Miss Isabel mentioned Mr. Elijah Smith’s name to the receptionist, and was led by the receptionist to private booth 0001. From the surveillance video, it can be seen that about thirty minutes after Miss Isabel entered, the young ladies that Mr. Elijah Smith called for ran out of the private booth one by one in a panic. Five minutes later, Mr. Elijah Smith left the private booth, his face not looking good, appearing rather angry. He never returned to the private booth. As for Miss Isabel, she has stayed in the private booth, along with Mr. Elijah Smith’s other friends, for fifty minutes now."
The manager of "Magnificent" recounted the details as shown on the surveillance video. After finishing, he added: "Brother Shaw, do I need to send someone to check on Miss Isabel’s situation in the private booth now?"
There was a pause, and the manager of "Magnificent" asked again: "However, Brother Shaw, we do have rules that we can’t just enter a private booth, so... what do you think..."
Edward Shaw leaned against the banister, stared at the splendidly decorative ceiling, and slowly said, "No need, someone else will deal with the rest, I’m just getting an update on the situation."
"Yes, Brother Shaw."
Edward Shaw subconsciously started to end the call, but halfway through, he lifted the phone again and told the manager on the other end: "Isabel has no relation to me."
The manager on the other end of the phone was startled by Edward Shaw’s abrupt statement, immediately responded with several "Yes, yes, yes."
Ever since Lily Adams gave birth to the twins "Little Balls", Edward Shaw had been an exemplary man, strictly maintaining his chastity and adhering strictly to moral principles. So, he subconsciously explained himself to the manager but on hearing the manager’s response, he felt even more suffocated. With a snap, he harshly ended the call. Then he made a somewhat irritated call to his older sister’s husband, Mr. Clarke, and reported all the information he had learned.
...
The apartment where Percy Stanton and Isabel Smith lived is not in the same city district as "Magnificent", and is somewhat far away, needing to go through the second ring of Bellshire City.
Even though it was already approaching 11 PM, when getting close to West Second Ring Road, there were still many vehicles and the road was slightly congested.
Percy Stanton’s foot alternated between the gas pedal and the brake, unable to accelerate, even nearly hitting the car in front of him.
He lifted his wrist to glance at the time. Only ten minutes had passed since he had called Joseph Tucker but it felt as if a long time had elapsed.
Percy Stanton seemingly calm lowered his wrist. He stared straight at the red light in front of him on the road, but his hand was rapidly tapping the steering wheel. In the midst of his numerous taps, Percy Stanton’s mobile phone suddenly rang.
