Chapter 150: Chapter 162: I Take Responsibility For Her Life (3)

It was only when Elijah’s car had driven a short distance that Charlotte Green stuffed the change into the car’s storage box, took a chestnut, peeled it, and said, "Elijah, why didn’t you wait for the change and just left?"

Elijah, however, didn’t say a word, simply staring at the neon lights flashing by the window, becoming more and more irritated.

Not until the car had stopped in the Smith family’s yard did Elijah turn off the engine, taking a while to do so. It was only after Charlotte softly reminded him that Elijah snapped out of his daze, turned off the car, grabbed his things and got out with Charlotte.

Returning to Charlotte’s bedroom, Elijah poured Charlotte a glass of warm water, watched her take her medication, and lay down on the bed to sleep. He then left her room.

Elijah looked at his watch, and it was only 11 PM. Normally at this time, he would be hanging out in those debaucherous places. But today, he had no interest. After standing at Charlotte’s door for a while, he awkwardly walked to his own bedroom next door.

It had been about half a month since he had been to the Smith home. The servants had tidied his room very neatly, already changing the bedsheets and quilt cover. Feeling a little tired, he lay down on the soft bed, closed his eyes, and the strange images in his mind became clearer, all featuring Isabel Smith, constantly shaking and swaying.

It annoyed him immensely, making him sit up in bed with a start. He grabbed his watch from the side table, checked the time - only twenty minutes had passed. Irritated, he threw the watch hard onto the ground, stood up, walked to the water dispenser, poured a glass of water, and turned around. His eyes caught a huge photo frame on the shelf, displaying a family portrait - him, Isabel, and their parents.

In the photo, he was only eight years old, wearing a tailored blue kid’s suit with a red bow tie around his neck, snuggling in his mum’s arms. Standing beside him was a taller Isabel in a blue dress, hair tied up with a red ribbon and a beautiful ponytail, sweetly smiling and leaning against her father.

This family portrait was taken on his 8th birthday. At that time, he lived carefree, while Isabel had just entered adolescence and was already stunningly beautiful.

Elijah stared at the photo for a long time before slowly shifting his gaze away, walking wearily to the bed and sitting down. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, took a few deep puffs, and impulsively pulled out his mobile phone, intending to call a few people he was supposed to hang out with tonight.

But when he found the phone number, he didn’t press it. Instead, he furiously smashed his phone on the ground.

His hand came down hard, shattering the phone into pieces.

Elijah felt an immense rage welling up inside his heart, leaving him nowhere to vent!

If it hadn’t been for Isabel, his parents would not have died, and he would still be as happy as in the family portrait, with a harmonious family life.

Her willfulness had destroyed their home, and then she had accidentally become pregnant, leaving him alone in Bellshire and gone to the United States!

Over the years, whenever he thought of this,
