Alice Kuonji looked up from the magical tome she was reading on the sofa.

Before her stood a figure with a face as pale as flour.

Bloodshot azure eyes, bulging veins—an aura of darkness, as if she’d just crawled out of hell.

Thwack—!

The book fell to the floor.

For the first time, a look of terror appeared on Alice’s usually impassive face. She instinctively recoiled, her body sinking deep into the soft sofa. "W-what... happened to you, Aoko?" she stammered.

"...Not dead yet." Aoko, her back hunched, her voice a hoarse whisper, shuffled towards the sofa opposite Alice and, with a soft thud, collapsed onto it, her slender body sinking into the cushions.

"Weren’t you going to deal with the witness this morning? What happened?" Alice asked, her voice a tentative whisper as she patted her chest, which was fluttering like a hummingbird’s wings.

She’d been living with Aoko for nearly two years, and this was the first time she’d ever seen her look so terrifying. Compared to a ghost, besides being a living creature, there was no difference.

Alice was genuinely scared. It was just one person.

Was it really necessary to turn herself into this... inhuman thing?

"The witness? Right, it’s all that guy’s fault I’m so miserable!!!" Hearing Alice’s voice, Aoko immediately shot up, her expression crazed.

The thought of being stared at all afternoon by the forty-odd mocking, teasing gazes of her classmates, her teacher’s ’if you’re having trouble, the school will help you’ tone, and the hordes of emboldened boys, their tentative ’how much for a date?’ questions...

Aoko’s rage was a burning sun, constantly undergoing nuclear fusion.

If Haru hadn’t been meddling, hadn’t witnessed her magical battle, if he’d just stayed at home and waited to die, would she have been branded a compensated dating girl?

So, it was all Haru’s fault.

"I’m going to kill that guy!" Aoko took a step, but Alice grabbed her hand.

"It’s only evening. And... are you planning on killing all five of them?" Alice asked, her expression impassive.

"Tsk!" As if doused with a bucket of cold water, Aoko calmed down, her lips pursed in annoyance.

"Ah!!! This is so annoying!!!!" Aoko flopped onto the sofa, repeatedly punching the cushions, venting her anger.

After a few moments, Aoko fell silent. She turned to face Alice, a long, weary sigh escaping her lips.

"Calmed down, Aoko? That out-of-control look really isn’t like you," Alice said, leaning down and preparing two cups of tea, offering one to the now-silent Aoko.

"Yeah, I’ve calmed down." Aoko leaned forward slightly, her expression calm as she stared at her reflection in the tea.

"In that case, let’s talk about damages. That’ll be 150,000 yen," Alice said, her right hand tracing a line along her thin lips, her left pointing to the dozen or so fist-sized dents in the sofa, her expression endearingly blank.

Aoko: "..."

Aoko was completely dumbfounded. She was this miserable, and Alice was kicking her while she was down?

Alice stared at Aoko, her expression impassive, a sharp glint in her black, pearl-like eyes.

"Yes! I understand!!" Aoko quickly took out the wallet from her jacket pocket and respectfully presented it to Alice.

"...Your money?" Alice took the wallet, her eyes widening in surprise as she looked at the hundred or so ten-thousand-yen bills inside. "Where did you get this?"

"Ah, that..." Aoko awkwardly averted her gaze.

"Name: Haru? Address: Misaki Town..." Alice raised an eyebrow, taking out a white business card that was different from the bills and reading it aloud.

"You didn’t kill the witness? But you have his wallet?" Alice looked at Aoko with suspicion.

"Um... well..." Large beads of sweat trickled down Aoko’s cheeks.

"Well, you used compensated dating as a pretext, but you couldn’t even trick him. Your clumsiness is truly beyond my expectations," Alice said, taking a sip of tea and looking at the business card.

"How did you know!!!!" Aoko shot up, her face a mask of shock as she stared at Alice.

"Here!" Alice handed the business card to Aoko, back-side up.

[Stop with the compensated dating, girl! If you need more money, just ask. —By: Haru]

Aoko’s gaze went blank. Then, she sighed, her expression turning cold. "Tonight, I’ll take care of him!"

Aoko stood up and walked towards her room.

Alice stared at the business card, a thoughtful expression on her face.

11 PM.

A bone-chilling winter wind swept across the land.

Aoko looked up at the iron gate before her, took a few steps back, then sprinted forward. Her legs, enhanced by magical energy, leaped easily over the gate, and in a few breaths, she reached the mansion wall, scrambling up it with her hands and feet.

"Which room is he in?" Aoko clung to the wall, moving from window to window, peering into the mansion’s rooms.

"Found him!!!" Aoko’s lips curved upwards as she saw the large and small figures inside the room.

Aoko reached out, an azure glow at her fingertips. A formula appeared, and with her enchanted finger, she gently slid it across the window.

Click—!

The window’s internal lock was opened.

"I feel like I could make a living off this skill in the future!" Aoko muttered, leaping lightly, and with the silent steps of a cat, she approached the bed.

"Hoo~~ hah~" Looking at the soundly sleeping Asagami Fujino, at her smiling, drooling, childish face, a flicker of guilt crossed Aoko’s eyes.

Aoko took out the storage vial, removed the white lid, and whispered towards the ’Haru’ beside Fujino. "Haru!"

The next second, a vicious elbow, fueled by Aoko’s rage, slammed into ’Haru’s’ stomach.

"Ugh—!"

The small, deep brown vial glowed with a green light, its function, mimicking the Genie’s lamp, instantly activating. ’Haru’s’ figure transformed into a black light and was sucked into the vial.

Looking at Fujino, who was frowning and fumbling for ’Haru’s’ figure, the guilt in Aoko’s eyes deepened. She gently kissed the little girl’s smooth forehead and whispered,

"I’m sorry. If you want to avenge your father, come find me anytime. Of course, I’ll fight back."

Aoko spun around, leaped out of the window, and vanished into the nearby forest.

A few moments later, Fujino opened her misty eyes, looked at the empty space beside her with a dazed expression, then at the open window, and tilted her head.

"Big Brother’s pillow? Was it stolen?"
