Chapter 185: Nagano
Chapter 185: Nagano
Nagano, a prefecture in Japan’s Chubu region, is a mountainous gem renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty.
Surrounded by the Northern Japanese Alps, its landscape is dominated by towering peaks, dense pine forests, and lush green valleys.
The air here feels fresher and cooler compared to Tokyo’s humid heat, a refreshing change for travelers after a long journey.
In summer, Nagano offers outdoor activities like hiking and rafting, but it’s also known for its rich traditional culture, including ancient temples and soothing natural hot springs.
After a tedious four-hour journey, the bus carrying the Ohananomitsu High School Archery Club finally arrived at their destination—a traditional Japanese inn at the foot of Nagano’s mountains.
The warm wooden architecture with classic slanted roofs, surrounded by a serene Zen garden, welcomed them.
The clock showed around 1 p.m.
The bus door opened, and one by one, the club members stepped off, stretching their stiff bodies.
In total, there were nine club members: six boys and three girls.
Two additional adults accompanied the group: Coach Takigawa Masaki and club advisor Kirisu Mafuyu.
"..."
With her elegant long pink hair and unwavering cool expression, Mafuyu stood before the students, waiting for them to gather at the inn’s reception area.
Once they were neatly lined up, she spoke in a clear, firm voice, devoid of excess emotion.
"Alright, everyone, listen up. We’ve arrived at the inn. As you know, the real training starts tomorrow morning. Today, you have free time."
"Hooray!!!"
Some students cheered softly, but Mafuyu’s sharp glare quickly silenced them.
"However, free time doesn’t mean you can act recklessly. You’re here representing Ohananomitsu High School. I don’t want to hear reports of inappropriate behavior, disturbances, or any issues in Nagano."
"Remember, discipline is the cornerstone of kyudo, and that applies off the archery range as well."
"Stay in groups when leaving the inn. Don’t wander alone in unfamiliar places. Keep your belongings secure. And most importantly, rest well. You’ll need plenty of energy for tomorrow’s intense training."
"..."
Mafuyu paused, letting her words sink in.
"I won’t hesitate to impose strict penalties if any of you break the rules. Any questions?"
"..."
No one dared to ask.
"Now, you can head to your assigned rooms. Room assignments will be handled by Takehaya-kun and Shiragiku-san. After that, you can have lunch in the dining hall. I’ll inform you about the dinner schedule later."
With that, Mafuyu signaled to Seiya and Noa, who stepped forward to distribute room keys and explain the inn’s layout.
After receiving the room assignments, Ren checked the list.
Rooms were arranged for students to share, usually two or three per room, for cost efficiency and team bonding.
But Ren had other ideas. He didn’t want to share a room with anyone.
Accustomed to the privacy and comfort of his own bedroom, the thought of sharing space with others—especially boys—felt utterly unappealing.
Ren walked straight to the inn’s reception desk, where Kirisu Mafuyu was still handling some administrative tasks.
"Kirisu-sensei."
Turning, Mafuyu looked up, her cold expression unchanged.
"What is it, Rokuhara-kun?"
"I want to book a private room. I’m not sleeping in the assigned Archery Club room." Ren said bluntly.
Mafuyu frowned. "What do you mean? Accommodations are already arranged. You’re sharing with Yamanouchi-kun and Narumiya-kun."
Narumiya Minato and Yamanouchi Ryōhei, both male members of the Archery Club.
"Honestly, I can’t sleep with guys." Ren replied, shrugging nonchalantly.
"..."
The atmosphere around the reception desk fell silent.
A few nearby club members, including Seo Rika and Hanazawa Yuna, turned to Ren with odd looks, their faces showing a mix of confusion and slight shock.
Didn’t that imply Ren could only sleep in a room with girls?
Mafuyu stared at Ren with an unreadable expression.
"Rokuhara-kun, while we invited you to assist with training, accommodations are covered. This is a club camp, not a five-star hotel for relaxation."
"I know, Kirisu-sensei. But I won’t be able to focus on training if I can’t sleep comfortably. Sharing a room with others will only distract me. Let me pay for my own private room."
"But—"
Mafuyu tried to object, but Ren cut her off.
"Besides, I promised Umi I’d be here. I can’t let myself perform below my best for that promise, right?"
Umi: "😳"
Blushing at the mention of her name, Umi could only lower her head.
"Fine, Rokuhara-kun. Do as you wish. But don’t let this interfere with training or the club’s schedule. And no issues should arise from your room preference."
Mafuyu let out a long sigh, a faint hint of frustration on her face.
"Of course, Kirisu-sensei. I guarantee there won’t be any problems. In fact, with a good night’s sleep, I’ll train them even better."
With Mafuyu’s reluctant approval, Ren promptly arranged payment for his own room at the reception.
He glanced at the club members still staring at him oddly but didn’t care.
Sleep with guys? No way!
With plenty of money to spare, Ren didn’t just book a private room—he reserved the most expensive one available, complete with a private onsen.
He disliked Japan’s culture of communal bathing, especially in public or shared onsens. The idea of soaking in a pool with a group of naked men was, to him, utterly repulsive.
After paying a hefty sum, Ren was escorted to his room by the inn’s staff.
The corridor was quiet, lit by traditional paper lanterns.
The staff stopped at a large wooden door with intricate carvings, opened it, and gestured for Ren to enter.
The room was spacious, with fresh tatami flooring emitting a calming straw scent.
A low table with cushions sat in the center, facing wide sliding shoji windows.
On one side, a thick futon was neatly prepared.
But the standout feature was the view beyond the windows.
A stunning natural landscape unfolded: the towering Japanese Alps, their peaks veiled in thin mist, stretched across the horizon. Dense pine forests blanketed the foothills. A small river flowed in the distance, its faint trickle adding to the tranquility. The cloudless blue sky stretched endlessly above, a perfect canvas.
In a corner, separated by another shoji wall, was the private onsen—a natural stone pool steaming gently, positioned by a window overlooking the mountains.
*THUD!*
Ren dropped his backpack onto the tatami floor, the soft sound breaking the room’s silence.
He stepped toward the sliding windows, his gaze wandering over the majestic mountains.
His eyes lingered on the private onsen, its steaming stone pool.
"Maybe next time, I should bring Itsuki and the others for an onsen getaway."
A sudden idea flashed through his mind—an orgy in this private onsen with Itsuki, Hayasaka, Masha, Alya, and Ririka. It’d be an unforgettable experience.
"Let’s clean up."
Ren swung his fist into the empty air in a corner of the room.
*CRACK!*
An invisible sound, like shattering glass, echoed faintly, followed by a soft hiss that faded.
Evil spirits and harmless ghosts hiding in the inn’s corners vanished with a single strike.
Ren gazed into the distance.
"Interesting. There are far fewer evil spirits here than in big cities like Tokyo. But plenty of yokai are roaming around."
"That’s not a bad thing. It means the nature here is still pristine, barely tainted by humans."
"Well, let’s see how ’interesting’ they get later."
This summer camp might not be as boring as Ren had thought.
Especially if some overly curious yokai decided to bother him or the Archery Club. That could be a decent distraction.
