Chapter 37: Power Inspection
Chapter 37: Power Inspection
Ragnar and Noah spent the following day after their successful training relaxing comfortably and preparing themselves for their hunting adventure.
In the morning, Ragnar strolled around the village and gave a short speech to the farmers to activate his Inspiring Orator skill. He then walked to the storage house to check if the monsterborns had been active overnight, and as expected there were signs of their activities. He also went to the stream to observe its surroundings.
On his way through the hamlet, he overheard the twins arguing—Noah had smartly denied his words from last night, and Merlina punished him, refusing to allow him to eat her meals for a whole week.
Ragnar found their conversation amusing, but he had so much urgent preparation to do and could not join in.
At midday, Ragnar exercised—he did several rounds of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. Afterwards, he rehearsed the Starving Sword Dance a few times.
Before the afternoon ended, one of his people summoned him to a hut where a farmer lay with a profuse leg injury. Apparently, he had cut himself while weeding his farmland and was in so much pain.
Fortunately, Ragnar still had plenty of painkillers and some knowledge of treating injuries—he gave the farmer a painkiller and then cleaned his wounds carefully to prevent infection.
Thanks to his skill and the painkiller’s miraculous effect, the farmer was no longer in pain and Ragnar finally returned home safely.
He quickly fell asleep soundly, only waking up a few hours before the next morning arrived.
Sleepless and idle, he brought out the magic gem and began deeply meditating, managing to gain a few attribute points in his Spirit attribute.

Meeting spot
"Have you heard? Ragnar and Noah are leaving the Hamlet today."
"Ragnar is leaving? Why would he want to leave at a time like this?"
"I heard both of them are going on a hunting trip to boost their combat experience."
"That is great but also very dangerous. Even the low-rank wild beasts in the woods are troublesome, let alone monsters. What if they come face to face with a demon?"
"There have never been rumors of people spotting demons in the woods. Demons are far stronger and smarter than monsters and wild beasts to be spotted in such a place."
"I was only saying. Anyway, as long as they don’t cross the path of troublesome monsters, they would certainly be safe."
"Yeah, I heard Milan is going with them. His pathfinding skills and understanding of the forest terrain would make it safer for them."
"Oh, that is great. Look, here they come."
The eyes of the eagerly chattering crowd turned to the three young men approaching.
Ragnar and Noah strode boldly toward the crowd gathered at the meeting spot. Both of them had their swords on their backs, looking regal and mature.
Milan strolled casually behind them with a tranquil expression on his face. His sword was strapped in a cloth scabbard at his waist.
Seeing the swords attached to the young men, the onlookers could not help but smile, especially old man James.
Noah and Ragnar strolled to the front of the crowd, where the heaps of items lay ready to be sacrificed.
Ragnar quickly observed the items.
’These are much more than the previous ones. I hope we get unique rewards from them, ones that would be of help on our trip,’ he thought.
He then turned to the crowd, observing their expressions—a few of them had smiles on their faces while others looked really worried, especially Merlina.
"Is it really necessary to go on this trip?" Merlina asked in a worried tone.
"It is not only necessary but important, Merlina," Ragnar responded with a smile before speaking in a louder tone, "My friend Noah and I have made up our minds to embark on this dangerous journey; we would face whatever danger comes our way courageously and return to the Hamlet as stronger swordsmen, ready to protect our people and conquer all our enemies."
"The reason we are gathered here today is to offer sacrifice to the ancestors and pray for a successful trip. We believe your prayers and wishes would go a long way."
Once Ragnar stopped speaking, the crowd erupted as everyone voiced their concerns and prayers.
"My family and I would pray for your return every day."
"If required by the ancestors, I would walk naked around the Hamlet and raise my voice in prayers."
"We wish you a safe return and may your trip be fruitful."
Numerous prayers and well wishes were heaped upon them.
Ragnar smiled profusely. Although he was aware there were no actual ancestors to answer their prayers, he was still very happy to see the people seriously praying for his safety.
He spoke to them for a minute, lying to them that the ancestors had answered their prayers.
After he was done addressing them, he moved closer to the items on the ground and began his usual act.
The people went silent as Ragnar conducted the sacrifice.

’Great, it is higher than the last one!’ Ragnar rejoiced.
At the same time, the items glowed and vanished.

’Yes!’ Ragnar rejoiced inwardly after observing the rewards.
Since he was still acting, he instructed Onyx on which item to reveal.
Afterwards, one hundred cans of food, five leather breastplates, and two swords of superior quality appeared out of thin air and landed on the ground.
"Wow!"
The crowd was immediately elated and began celebrating.
"Look at those swords, they look very sharp and durable."
"The ancestors are very considerate; they gave us better swords, and look at those sturdy leather chest armors!"
"Who cares about those? Look at that canned food, they are more than one hundred, at least!"
"The ancestors indeed care about our prayers!"
The people began to rejoice.
Noah was quickly enamored with the two swords and the leather breastplate. His eyes refused to go off them.
Ragnar, on the other hand, addressed the crowd. He handed the canned food over to Merlina and instructed her on how to distribute it effectively when he was away.
After he was done, he gave a lengthy speech, activating Inspiring Orator, and then dismissed the people.
Everyone bade the three of them farewell before they left.
Old man James and Merlina stayed behind after everyone had left.
Old man James gave them tips on how to effectively hunt down wild beasts before wishing them a successful hunting trip and leaving. Milan escorted home.
Merlina strolled closer with worries etched on her face.
Noah turned to his sister with a calm expression on his face and said, "Merlina, do not worry about m.."
Before he could complete his statement, Merlina flashed him a cold glare, hushing him up.
She then turned to Ragnar. "Please come back safely."
"I will," Ragnar smiled. "Please take care of the Hamlet for me."
Merlina smiled back and hugged him, feeling his warmth for a few seconds.
===
Only Ragnar and Noah remained at the meeting spot after everyone departed.
They quickly equipped themselves with the leather breastplates and the new swords, which were several times stronger than their current ones.
Ragnar also brought out the unique skill scroll and tore it without hesitation.

Power Inspection (Lvl 1)
— Category: Active » Support
— Description: Your gaze is extraordinary; a simple look of yours is able to reveal the strength of pals and foes.
— Effects: Consumes 5 MP per activation; upon activation, power levels and attributes of targets below level 20 are revealed.
— Upgrade requirements: skill upgrade card
"Not exactly what I wanted, but it is what I need," Ragnar muttered, smiling.
He was even more excited when he discovered it has no cool down. It makes sense since it consumes MP per activation. With his current MP, he would only be able to activate skill ten times before running out.
Curious to check out its effect, he turned to Noah, who was trying out the new swords, and activated the skill with his mind.

"Impressive," Ragnar nodded.
"Now it’s time to use the skill upgrade card!"
