Chapter 81: Leaving It In Flames–2
*GALLOP!
*GALLOP!
*GALLOP!
The reins were pulled as the mount was brought to a halt. "Whoa! Whoa!" The figure adorned in black clothing tried to get it to be completely still.
"Hah, riding one of these was never an easy thing." He thought aloud, finally getting off the horse whiles ensuring the reins were fastened around his hands. As the last thing he’d believe was the mount was going to tag along with him willfully.
"I feel like I’m regretting choosing this location as the base." Tham mouthed, making his way towards the towering trees before him.
It was a dense forestland, one of the worst terrains to have horses going through unless a favourable path was cut out. However, slavers weren’t horse riders with beasts being much more fast in such areas than others.
Well, having lost his and now stuck with a mount contemplating on how to kick him away and make a run for it. All that was left to do was to walk the entire way there.
About an hour or two gone, he finally neared there, being more than what he had expected it to take. Beasts had sharp sense of smell and all of those belonging to the Fern Guild, mostly Sabertooth Jaguars wouldn’t miss his scent miles away. For he’d expected to encounter them few minutes after entering the forest.
"Didn’t Arch get the patrols moving? That coward, hah!" Tham sneered, recalling back then on the battlefield. "I’m giving him a good beating for leaving me in their hands. What if they killed me."
Of course he knew Arch was quite wounded and if he wasn’t, there was no way he’d continue with the journey they’d decided to embark on. Thus leaving Alden and Mo-an to head all the way to the RedLight District, since missing the Event was out of question.
Still it was quite shocking to know that, none had come to meet up with him from the base after walking so far.
A few minutes later, he’d finally reached the entrance and to his surprise, there was nothing.
The guild was quite large and the trees were used to their advantage, being used as their guard towers. With much of a wall as slavers didn’t believe in such useless things, instead the area had a ton of spikes around. For such was what they believed to be worthy of being a wall, something which could both attack and defend at the same time.
Alot surely could be seen around, from the guard towers to cottages and other buildings around with all made of wood.
However this was nowhere near what was supposed to be there as far as he recalled.
"What’s going on here?" Tham stood there confused, he didn’t take a step forward but rather was trying to access the situation.
He was a spiritualist and therefore had a good hearing to cover almost the entire camp. Thus, currently he picked nothing which could indicate a human being was around.
’Did... No, but...What else could have happened?’ There were many possibilities and none of them were tallying up if he thought deeply about it.
I wouldn’t make sense for his brothers to gather the guild and leave just because he was killed. Neither would everyone be sent on the journey to the District, so where was the guild then. Well it was right before him, so then where did it’s members disappear to instead.
*RUSTLE!
"Huh?!"
*GROWL!
’A Sabertooth?’ His ears picked something approaching and that was a beast only slavers dared to tame or maybe Enslave instead, without the so called Tamers Link.
*SNAP!
It was getting closer, yet Tham stood there unbothered as if a six foot beast was coming from behind.
*THUD!
*GROWL!
The ground shook for a second as it landed on the ground, growling as it approached him.
Slowly turning, without the horse which now seemed to be a stone statue with how petrified it was. Tham was met with a wide open mouth, and sabertooth inches away from his face.
*ROAARRR!!!
Taking it like a true slaver would, his eyes wide open while the beast probably meant to blow off his eardrums. It finally came to an end as a slimy tongue followed up, engulfing him in it as if the earlier roar hadn’t done enough.
"Rumel." Tham mumbled, his voice bearing an order which required no words.
"Yes, Master." A soft feminine voice was heard as the beast began to back off, having the reins fastened around its sabertooths instead.
"It surely has survived long enough. The luckiest beast alive." Tham commented, his eyes on the tooth which was known to be his slave’s favorite plaything. For everyone knew it wouldn’t be long before this one had also lot its own and life. Getting them meat and fur for them, saving every inch of it from going to waste.
However, it was still alive after so long, counting about three years now. As one could only wonder if she seemed to like this particular one, or she’d obtained enough death strings for the meantime of course.
"Master." Hopping off the beast’s back, she walked towards him and dropped to one knee with a hand on her chest— a symbol of submission used by high slaves. After all, despite being slaves they did have a degree of pride which didn’t get them on all knees like low slaves.
’She’s done already? If she isn’t always full of surprises as always— hah.’ He smile inwardly. "You have something for me i presume?"
"Yes, Master." Bringing out an object from a pocket in the blue overcoat she wore, she handed over a storage ring.
"Rumel, how many times do i have to tell you about placing a single item in a storage ring. You’re wasting them you know."
"I also went to the guild’s treasury."
"Oh, ah, well that— that was unnecessary but thank you."
*BOOM!
Yep, it wasn’t a physical one but an emotional explosion of course, as it one left her face bright red.
"Rumel? Rumel?"
"Huh, Yes Ma–Master." She stuttered, snapping back to reality from the most impossible imagination she’d ever envisioned.
"Here."
"Uh, Yes Master."
"Good then." Tham said, his hands finally free as he wore the storage ring on the finger which already had one there. After all, one couldn’t keep space in space.
Heading to the beast, he soon found himself propped up at the back of the jaguar. "Rumel, I’d be heading first to the Thorns, meet me there. After taming that beast there."
"Uh?" Rumel looked down at her hands, noticing the leather she currently held onto. Tracing it back to what it was connected to, her eyes met with that of another— the horse’s own.
"Tame it?" Rumel mouthed though audible enough.
"Well, a horse can’t be enslaved."
"I-I can’t Tame, Master."
"Yeah i know. You’ll figure it out, you’re smart..."
*BOOM!
"First step though, is to hold on tight to that..."
"Uh?" She looked up to Tham and then where his gaze landed before catching the horse currently kicking the air.
’Well, she’ll figure it out— i guess.’
*NEIGH!!!
*FWOOM!
She barely noticed when it happened, but the reins were not in her hands anymore. Neither was it beside her as the same could be said for her master and beast.
*GALLOP!
*GALLOP!
Struck with nothing but absolute fear, the mount had managed to instantly adapt to the forestland. Moving without breaking it’s speed for the slightest second, dodging each tree like a pro. It proved anything was possible when one’s life was hanging on the line, yet—
*SHUNK!
*SKRRRR!
*HALT!
That was that, it didn’t dare to move an inch further or back as it only stood there stupefied. Staring at the bone embedded in the tree before it, unblinkingly.
"I give you two choices, submit or die. I’d definitely be favouring giving horse meat a try today." The aura bearing feminine voice shook its insides, it’s legs barely standing straight.
*GULP!
A good distance away and clinging to the trees via the beast, was Tham with a bead of sweat forming up on his face.
"Sometimes, I wonder. I just wonder...who gave birth to her."
*GROWL!
"What, you also do too? Good Heavens."
On a hill on an open land where fields and greenery run all over the place and horizon, figures mounted on beasts could be seen.
Leading was a masculine figure in light armor forged with monster cores, having beast fur around him. At his side was a saber and strapped to him was a long bow with beast skin props, including the quiver.
Behind him were also mostly hardened men mounted on beasts and in beast skin armour except two. For these two in similar armour to the leader were the male and female.
"Deti."
"Yes, Alden."
"Inform the rest to set up a temporary camp here in this land."
"Yes, Alden." She began to move with her beast when her name was mentioned again.
"Deti, make sure there are more guards around the assets."
"Mm." She nodded and
continued on her way.
"Drey."
"Sir?"
"Let’s head to Renville, we must ensure the deal would be struck before today’s part of the event."
"Yes, Sir!"
"Hyaa!!"
