Chapter 80: Beast Human
Chapter 80: Beast Human
"Her Madam? What’s that supposed to mean here."
’Hmm, wasn’t that a bit different than usual. Maybe, they’ve been starving it up.’
"Thelma? Yoo-hoo?"
"Ahhh, what are you doing standing right here." She instinctively stepped a few paces back, seeing Alice inches away from her face.
"You blanked out."
"No I did not." Thelma protested, trying to recall if she ever did yet getting nothing at all.
"You did, even screamed at you and all." Alice pressed with her hands akimbo.
"Ugh, whatever— where’s the body?"
"Not waking up as far as I know."
"Keh, better grab her and catch up fast." Smirking at the other’s words, she was heading deeper the next second, leaving the other behind.
"Wait, no. Wait for me?! She’s heavy!"
"Go find a candidate center after this then, weakling!"
"Candidate? Hah, do I look like an 18 year old kid to you, Thelly?!"
"They’re for 30 year old kids dum dum. Haha?"
*BAM!
"Eek!" The navy blue haired figure flinched with goosebumps all over. As she quickly turned to look back at the door, having just shut with a sharp yet faint sound.
If one would ask her how, she’d have to spend ages to think of an answer after her racing heartcore subsided. For Kezia could only wonder why, and which invisible force had driven her to her current position in the room. It was meant to be something similar to a hit and run, a simple sneak peek then she’d be gone. Yet slowly it unexpectedly turned into something else, seemingly being out of her control.
For inches from her was none other than the rocking chair she’d seen earlier, currently empty.
The room was a quiet one, too quiet that one’s senses were barely able to cope with such silence. It had no torches on with the moonlight barely reaching into it, as the moon wasn’t at a favourable position this time round. And so, the much visible area stretched from the door to the chair, considering where the window was. So with everywhere else seeming like a void which would eat up anything daring to venture in. Kezia once again found herself moving without giving it a first thought.
A step at the time, she made her way into the room as the darkness engulfed her. Kezia could catch little of the area she was and only kept moving forward. After a minute or two, she stopped and turned only to see the chair about an inch from her.
’Wait what?’ Her eyes widened in shock, unable to believe the fact that she hadn’t moved an inch. However something caught her attention, and it was where she currently stood. ’I was facing the chair not standing beside it.’
"What’s happening?" Her heartcore had definitely bought a formula one at this point, switch to a fighter jet almost instantly as someone replied.
"I am happening here, little little dove." A hand touched her shoulder as the words were whispered directly into her ear.
"I- I- I- I" The words were barely coming out, with her breathing disorienting as her vision blurred.
"Eh?!" The figure behind her was caught off guard as the other disappeared from her sight.
*THUMP!
Kezia had blanked out.
"How far is it, Thelma?"
"For heavens sake, we’d only walked for a few minutes Alice."
"Well, she’s heavy."
"No one said a thing about carrying her here."
"Eh!" Alice stopped in her tracks with the body slung at her back like a child. "Then what else should I do?"
"Drag her, drag her ok. Ugh, how many times should I repeat myself?" Thelma continued to walk with the next words bringing her to a halt.
"I don’t wanna..."
"You don’t wanna?"
"Mmmhm." She nodded innocently.
"Why?"
"Well, she’ll get dirty and all you know. I don’t wa— um, why you looking at me like that."
Thelma’s eyes were twitching as she stared at her. As her brain tried to process the handful of words she’d just heard in bits and bytes.
"Ugh, I coughed out a ton of dirt after I was brought back— hmph. You definitely can’t relate." Alice stated with a pout and still not ready to let go of the body anytime soon.
"Sh..." Thelma’s lips moved slightly, the words incoherent.
"Eh? You saying somethi—"
"She’s dead!!! She’s dead, Alixe— dead!!!" Her words resounded throughout the cave they where in, loud and clear.
"But—"
"There are no buts here, she’s getting fed to the beast and that’s the end of this— gosh, so frustrating!" Turning back, she stormed off, not seeming to care whether the other lost sight of her not.
’The secret is a beast? A living secret?’ Alice thought to herself as a memory came to mind.
"Sir, you called for me?" A yellow-haired figure with bright orange eyes in a brown cloak could be seen stepping into a room which was nothing but dark. It had a white line leading from the entrance to what was, probably the center.
"Congratulations, I wish you all that is good, Alice." A calm and loud voice was heard with the direction it came from being a mystery.
"Hehe, thanks Sir 9Crow— Kolin sure does rush things up." Her cheeks flushed red as she spoke.
’How could anyone hate him?’ She wondered. ’Everyone here loves him and they are all kind. So why hate the Darkcloaks?’
"Alice, I have a task for you. Well you can accept or decline it anyways, but each one would bare it’s consequences of course. I don’t think you want to be a wi—"
"I accept, Sir 9Crow." Alice said with a smile up her face, one would have taken that as a threat yet not her nor the others would. It was in the nature for him to state the dangers, facts and reality of each mission. Thus with this, she could guess it was a Black Quest— her first one at that.
"A huge sum has been offered for a detail on a certain NobleHouse in the Southern Province."
"Mm." Alice nodded, aware of what detail meant, as that was what the organization was for— gathering details.
"Regarding the type of details here, we wouldn’t expect living ones as the NobleHouse we are talking about bears a zero derail count."
’Wait? Unbelievable— there were people who the organization had nothing on them.’
"The period is undefined and so do make sure to have the needful done and dusted." Alice gulped at the words, as an undefined period could mean as long as a lifetime— if that was a worse case scenario.
"But Sir, don’t offers have periods?"
"Well, i asked the same yet it had none when given."
"Mm, okay Sir 9Crow."
"You’ll be briefed on the NobleHouse and all resources would be provided. You the drill."
"Yes Sir."
"Good."
"Um, Sir... What’s the LEXL this time round?"
"A Scout Level."
*GULP!
’A- A- A Sco– Scout Level!!’
_____________
’Either Sir 9Crow was being too cautious or the Elmore’s weren’t as simple as i thought.’ Alice yip yapping had come to an end as a living detail was something to die for of course— not like she plan to.
So far the LEXL wasn’t near anything of a scout and surprising neither a forager but rather that of a supplier. Since getting into the mansion was far easier than she thought, only having to deal with a single question and a health verification test. All they required was a lowborn, one young and fit as a fiddle.
’Thelma, killed me over this— how pathetic was the life of a lowborn in this world.’ Those were her thoughts upon finally arriving at the mission area, the Elmore Estate.
"Hey! Thelly, you can’t just leave me stranded!" Alice dashed after her.
"Now you’re even able to run with her— i almost fell for your lies." She scoffed.
"I think saying tricks makes it much less of a bad thing right."
"Deceit should be good. It sure should hmmm."
"Ugh, how much do you even hate lies Thelma?"
"Hahaha, that’s a first. Well, it’s as much as you can’t stand to hold a grudge for more than a minute." Thelma unleashed a round of loud and crazy laughter which was the opposite of the opposite of the opposite of a lady.
"I bet you forgave me before you were
a goner!"
"Mm, well it was the moment you pushed me instead."
"Oh, ugh let’s hurry up already slowpoke."
"Hey! Take her and see who’s faster!"
"In your dreams Ally!"
’She... She called me that! She actually...yeeee!’
’Only if, only if i could ever forgive myself for being so stupid — haaa. Oh Thelma, why you?’
Kezia could feel herself moving back and forth as her consciousness slowly returned. Naturally her eyes flew open and going for the usual rub at it to clear and bothersome entities. A restraint was felt on both hands and soon her legs also. As that brought the darkness of the area to mind with a flood of memories.
*CREAK!
Kezia froze, aware of one thing and that was it didn’t come form her. And as her eyes were about darting around, her gaze first fell on the ground immediately catching a pair of shoes. Slowly moving her eyes up from the legs and ending up on the figures face with her brain processing nothing.
She was met with a wide and odd smile, words following afterwards.
"Hi, I’m Clar— Oh um, she fainted. Did she mess up my body that much? Mm, yup i need a mirror."
