Chapter 74: Just A Sneak Peek-2

•••••••••••••••

’Where are they? Where are the maids?’ Descending the flight of stairs, the dark-brown hair and obsidian pair of eyes which formed up the features of Kaleb Elmore could be seen.

’Weren’t they at the dining hall just now?’ No one could be seen around, and even throughout the entire way there, he hadn’t met a soul.

’Is this how the kitchen area is normally?’ After all, this was literally one of the few times which could be counted with a single hand, in which he’d been there. For a second he second thought where he was. Yet, having spent his childhood here like any other Elmore, the recognition came quite fast.

Now downstairs, the place lit by the torches with the walls being nothing special and the area well kept as one would expect.

Kaleb proceeded into the kitchen, still contemplating whether this silence so far was to be expected.

"Thelma?" He called out her name, only to receive a response which was good, coming from a feminine voice. It wasn’t one he didn’t recognize, yet neither was it Thelma’s.

"Oh, is that the name of one of your... mistresses?"

Kaleb was stunned if there wasn’t a better word to describe the state he currently was in. It was made up of a mixture of shock and instant fear which rendered him petrified. The figure a distance away, suddenly in the mansion didn’t speak anything good.

"Sa- Sa- Salia?" He managed to voice, despite his current state.

"Mmm, cat’s got your tongue darling?" His face flushed red, her hand going up to shield the lower part while her cold gaze remained on his— a clear facade. "I didn’t mean to add the ’s’ to the mistresses, oh I did it again. Hehehe."

Trying to get a hold of himself, Kaleb inhaled and exhaled calming himself down though nothing could be done about his racing heartcore.

"What do you want here, Salia?" His voice carried a degree of coldness, but it’s intensity compared to that of her eyes alone, was an ice cube before an iceberg.

"Ah, this is the Kaleb I like?" The colour of her flushed face and nearly reached that of blood itself.

"I aimed to get you in your chambers, too bad you got to me first. It would have been such a sweet night— haa." Her breath was hot, now standing close to him and skintight. For if he’d blinked, then it could have been said to be a blink of an eye. But he hadn’t, yet still when she’d closed the distance between them was a question hanging in the air— an unsurprising question of course.

"I’m yours anytime you want and you do kno—"

"Did he send you?" He cut in, his words wiping all the life from her face which could be clearly seen a second ago.

She stepped a few inches away from him before speaking with a tone entirely different, just like the person he had a budding fear of. "Why else would I be here then?"

Kaleb gulped hard, as even though he expected it to be from him, the verification of it, still did have an effect— a negative one of course.

"What does he want?"

"You, right now."

"No, that’s not possible."

"And that’s why I’m here to make sure it’s possible."

Both of them stood there in silence, eyes locked on each other.

"Don’t Kaleb, you don’t stand a chance." Salia warned, her body which seemed to be still yet was slowly taking a stance, going unnoticed.

"Give me a few days, I don’t disappoint and you know that." He pled his case, however the other party didn’t seem to be buying any of it.

"We are too far from any help to come, your security is trash today Kaleb."

"I’m a knight, did you forget that?"

"Oh, why would I— but a weakling’s pride is always weak and only strength can beat it dow—"

*WHOOSH!

*CRASH!

"Bloody Witch, who are you daring to call weak? You’d think you’re position would have dominance in my territory?!" Kaleb barked, pulling back his hands with his eyes now glowing silver.

A distance away, having crashed into a part of the kitchen and currently in the wreckage. Salia sat up, her eyes also glowing a bright gold with a crooked smile on her face.

"Well, this still is the Crane Kingdom or am I smelling— a rebel." Her smile widened and intentionally hit the nail on a nerve this time round.

"HOW DARE YOU!!" Kaleb had disappeared from where he was, though being fast, her eyes could still match his speed.

’Nothing much better than thrashing a knight, I’ll just leave out the delicate parts. Hehe.’ Salia went in for a punch to meet his when suddenly—

*BOOM!

The sudden burst of power went entirely unnoticed by anyone else in the Elmore Estate.

"Mm?" Thelma’s eyes shifted to the side, trying to signal the other who just stood there staring at her, to act.

"What?" Alice asked with her voice almost a whisper.

"Check who it is already." She finally spoke and to her hearing also.

"Are you literally kidding me?! You’re the one to be doing this, not me?! Good Heavens." She protested, her left brow raising upon seeing the other staring at her with eyes wide open. When suddenly she realized what she’d just done. ’Oops.’

*BANG!

*BANG!

The knock came again, something else following afterwards as the knob could be heard turning.

*CREAK!

The door slid open, the two frozen put on each side of the door. Emerging first was a leg, almost hidden under a black gown before the rest of the body followed suit.

"Well well well, what do we have here?" A figure both of them recognized, also being a maid in the mansion voice was heard.

She turned to the left, her wrinkled face long having lost most of the gift of beauty being seen. A smile propped up her face upon seeing Thelma, and turning to the other side she seemed confused.

"Aren’t you one of the newbies, you’re already following this slu—"

*WHAM!

*CRACK!

*THUD!

Alice watched as the woman dropped down the the ground with her skull bashed in. Looking up at the attacker, she could barely find anything to say being as puzzled as the word itself.

"You— You— You killed her, you killed Joelle."

Thelma was now the one to be handed the baton of confusion, currently holding a wooden mace which had the exact features of a bat instead.

"Eh, Is that surprising? I even killed you, remember?"

Alice was dumbfounded.

"Now help me search for it, this just bought a ticket to one of the Elmore’s biggest secrets."

"Wait, she’s the ticket."

"Mmhm, as long as she’s not coming back to life like someone else."

"Are you mad at me or something here, Thelly?"

"Haha, you never know, Alice— you never know."
