Chapter 50: An Escape–4
Chapter 50: An Escape–4
"Remember to grab the best horses from the stables, we have to track down that wizard no matter what."
"Shouldn’t we have the other gate checked?" One of the guards following behind asked Diz, causing the party to come halt. Turning towards the knight’s direction, his eyes narrowed, and Diz neared him.
"You look young? A recruit into the mansion I presume."
"Yes Sir." The other replied, keeping his gaze away from his, the best choice to avoid intimidation but not fear.
"Be a recruit then." After his words, they were on their way once again.
*HUFF!
*HUFF!
On a porch at the side of the mansion, two figures could be seen in the shadows.
"Did we have to hold our breaths too?" Colin huffed and puffed, catching his breath. "Eh? You did what I said, obedient you— haha."
"Huh?" Colin was puzzled, trying to put the two together. "So you didn’t do the same, how can you be like that Master— I almost died back here!" He added, protesting.
"Hehe." Lo-an wore a satisfied look. "You deserved it for putting this master right in front of you. I’m the one they’re looking for, yet you’re hiding behind me."
"You always said you protect your bastards, tsk. Not keeping your word now eh."
*WHACK!
"How old are you now, ninety! Expect me to protect you!"
"Master!" In a tunic, Colin dashed out towards the gardens.
"Come here for more you bastard!" Lo-an followed after giving chase, his hands clenched and ready to deliver another blow.
Behind the mansion, the two groups met and continued towards the forestland enclave.
"Diz, can you take the armoury instead?" Tav suggested to the other.
"And why should I? Want to visit your brother?" Diz replied, an eyebrow raised.
"Who wouldn’t, it’s been long since I saw that blockhead. Wish Ral could tag along also." Tav said with a smile propped up his face, the other seemingly in thought about his suggestion.
"No worries, he didn’t give us specific areas to head to anyway." He finally said, hearing his reply Tav reached for a sword from one of those holding it behind him.
"Good then, do remember to grab the Shattering Roar." He handed over the weapon to him.
"I’ll be going first then." They watched as Tav’s party walked away, Diz’s eyes narrowing. Lifting his hand to call forward one of the men behind him, he whispered something into his ear, gave him the sword and headed in a different direction also towards the gardens.
"Why is this so hard to find? Isn’t it in here?." Thelma busily ravaged the room, from the closest to the desks, vases, and even the bathroom to the cores she’d found out about. Still, she hadn’t been able to find the keyhole she had to fit the key in her hands. The frustration written all over her face, and already feeling exhausted, she sat down at the foot of the bed.
Raising the key, age examined it for the umpteenth time. However, it couldn’t match up to any lock she’d recalled seeing around the mansion, having picked most of them.
’Would he have placed it in one of the study rooms? This isn’t helping.’
*BAM!
The door before her, shot open all of a sudden, scaring the ghost out of her.
"Kaleb!" She shrieked as she saw him storm into the room, the air around him tense. Not noticing his current demeanour, she retorted fiercely. "Why did you barge in just like that?"
Glaring at him, she noticed him mumble something inaudibly— his face down. "Won’t talk?"
He raised his head, his pair of obsidians darker, burning with aura and rage. "Get out of here." He said, holding himself back with his fists clenched, trying to sound as calm as he could. Although the being calm trait had long abandoned him decades ago.
"Is—"
"I SAID GET OUT!!!"
She couldn’t tell whether it was the mansion which shook or her body, as she could feel each and every part of her weaken. Her face paled out, never having seen him bark at her so loud enough to shake her insides.
Getting up, she fell again and again, managing to get up on her feet on the fourth try.
"Ye– Ye– Yes Ma– Master." She bowed as much as much as she could without toppling, having a stutter in her voice. Her entire being trembling with her thoughts frozen still and her mind blanked out.
Face down, Thelma carefully made her way past him, her legs barely holding on.
*BANG!
The door was slammed behind her. The impact caused her to flinch, dragging herself away from there with the walls being her support.
"Kaleb." She mumbled, tears flowing down her face onto the flooring. "You will pay for this— I swear you will."
"Dan!" Tav called out as he and the men with him stepped into the stable, their eyes searching. The horses could be seen in their stalls, the air filled with snorts and whines.
Emerging from the side, Dan could be seen in a leather gear he usually wore despite also being a knight, though one always at the Enclave. Pulling behind him was a dark horse, a courser as one could tell from the athletic build of the mount.
’Runes?!’ Tav seemed to be the only one to notice them with his keen eyes, the next words from Dan peaking his suspicion.
"Tav, you’re here. Seen Master yet?" He said cheerfully, placing the saddle in his hands at the horse’s back— his face beaming.
"Do get the needed horses ready, I’ll have a word with my brother and join you guys later on. "Dan, a minute please."
The two got a safe distance away from the others at a corner near the window where one of the training grounds could be seen outside— currently deserted.
"Is there something up?" Dan questioned, his innocently perplexed expression evident. Tav stared at him, recalling him mentioning the word ’Master’ and there was only one being in the world who he knew Dan would refer to with such a title.
"I noticed runes on the courser and you mentioned ’Master’?" He asked, numerous thoughts swirling around in his head.
"Yes, Master was here, we had a feast last night." He casually replied, unsure what the now taken-aback look on the other’s face meant.
"Master Lo-an was here?" Tav grabbed his head, pacing left and right.
"What’s wrong with that, it’s been years and you’re not happy about it?"
"Not happy? How can I if the Sir is after him currently, we have to do something." Tav was beyond troubled at this point, trying to cook up anything which could help out.
"Don’t bother, Colin should be getting him out by now. I’m rendezvousing with them his mount, it should be an easy escape?" Dan informed, sure of their plan’s success.
"Really?" He got a nod in reply to confirm what he’d just heard. "Good good, hurry up to them already then. After informing Ral, he’d definitely figure something out, Master must get to safety first."
"On it then." Dan hurried past him, the other exhaling deeply. ’How did he end up here when he hates Nobles— let’s hope the Elmores would get out of this safely.’
"Huh?" Tav snapped out of his thoughts noticing something move from the corner of his eyes. Looking out the window, he couldn’t see anything or anyone there. Footsteps were heard approaching with a voice also being heard.
"The horses are ready, Sir." Tav turned back towards the knight, who already had his helmet on. "Good, let’s head out." He ordered, having thoughts on how to go about things as he couldn’t raise any suspicion among the others.
Heading out of the Mansion, a large and armoured guard following him, Kaleb could be seen also in golden and white armour— a higher tier than the rest.
"Carl, have the others found him?" He asked the large figure, having his face hidden behind a sizeable and fitting helm.
"Not that I do know of, Sir," Carl replied in a hoarse voice, the other seeming displeased with his words. Their direction towards the Entrance, Ral having noticed Kaleb was already heading back to him. Suddenly, popping out of nowhere, since no one saw when he arrived there. Ral noticed one of his comrades before his superior, having one knee down. He could see them exchange words which only worsened the frown on Kaleb’s face.
Pausing as he noticed him now glaring straight at him, Ral felt a certain uneasiness within. He knew something was off with how he was being looked at, yet being unable to guess it wasn’t helping.
"Did they already find the intruder?"
