Chapter 37: Dark Division
*KRACKA-BOOM!!!
Chaos wrecked everywhere, destroying every living thing thousands of miles away in each direction.
Up in the sky, large birds could be seen, each surrounded by a shadowy and dark aura as each blackbird held onto something between its claws, a square-shaped encasement. And in one of these encasements, figures shrouded in black cloaks with their faces under hoods could be seen.
"Halix to all team members." A larger cloaked figure, surrounded by the dark aura stood at the center of a circle of about fifty similar figures.
"This is a mass destruction mission and a simple one." He began with the briefing. "It’s the usual drills, we get the souls bagged up and off to the Death Domain."
"We are counting thousands, the Halix and Rfrien Teams are to cover Coldrock and its areas." His voice was loud and clear to all, although the mention of the Rfriens did bring some disapproving sounds. "We divide up into 15 units, each taking 500 dark orbs per unit."
"Now remember, no crossing boundaries of the Light Division— you don’t bite, they don’t bite. Reapers Corps!" Halix said, the others aware of it being the other way around instead.
"Yes!!"
*KAW- KAW!!
The dark bird holding them up shrieked loudly. "That’s our drop point guys. Let’s get this done, free Energy Drinks back at base for everyone."
"Yes!! Halix! Halix! Halix!"
"Now Reap them, souls!" At his final words, the platform they all stood on flew open as falling out, the team descended towards the chaos below. Halix drifted away from the team, as each team leader was a Solo Reaper. Thus he headed towards a certain area he’d been assigned to alongside another team’s leader.
"WHAM!
He landed on the bare ground like a superhero would, though he could have gone all straight up anyway. "Ah, that sweet-scented smell— death." He said, though unable to sense it since he had none.
Having souls to reap, he navigated through the barren land, the winds wild as if a storm had erupted. However, Halix stood unaffected as the wind was a physical existence while he wasn’t. Not anymore at least.
The area which he seemed to be in was much more of a forest having, branches and twigs among other parts of trees and rubble headed his way with the wind. Yet all did nothing but simply go through him.
"What?! How did I get a place with only two souls around? Ugh, and I thought I would be advancing this time round." Moments later, now staring at the dark holographic screen construct before him, he sighed deeply. The construct had two purple dots, as those were souls to be reaped by the Dark Division’s teams. Seeing this Halix had no choice but to accept his fate. For he also had to reap just these two souls with another reaper. "So unbelievable... but what if?"
*KAW-KAW!
The shrieking of a dark bird was heard, signifying the dispatch of a Team Of Reapers. "The Rfriens were that close?" His plans to quickly reap both souls for himself alone went down the drain before he could fully plot it out.
All hope was lost now, glancing back at the screen construct, he finally noticed another dot. Though it wasn’t one he could reap, being a white one. It still did bring up an idea which was sure to work this time round.
Quickly, changing the key of the map from souls to reapers. A few team members could be seen, and blue dots were disappearing from it as they headed in the opposite direction. Again, another set of dots could be seen moving fast as the Rfriens made their landing. Among the many green dots, a single dot broke away from the others heading in his direction.
Patiently awaiting where the other would fall, the Rfrien Team Leader landed a mile away from him. His drop point was perfect, being farther from the soul he was aiming for. Thus heading in the direction of the other, Halix soon reached him.
"If it isn’t the legendary Rfrien himself— haha." Another figure similar to that of Halix and the other reapers, shrouded with dark shadows and in a dark cloak could be seen. Yet what made the difference between the two were their hands, as Halix had his own gloved while Rfriens bony hands were exposed— their faces hidden under the hoods. "You’re here to offer one of those best deals of yours?"
"Ah, guess I’m being known too much nowadays. Can’t help it, I was quite the merchant back then." Halix goofed about.
"And you died by failing to con a knight as usual," Rfrien said bluntly. "But I did get the likes of you of course— seemed pretty easy indeed."
"Despicable, I was much more principled than you could ever imagine, Halix." He boasted proudly.
"I can see that," Halix said. ’Delusional even after death.’ Yet his thoughts were different.
"What do you have, I’m only listening if it’s worth the waste of my time."
"Seriously? I’m the one wasting my time here while you’re going to be reaping the benefits. Just take a look here." Halix brought out his construct, displaying the map in front of him. "You see our position here, now here are the souls."
"Two, you think I’ll believe your tempered map."Rfrien sneered.
"I had a similar reaction there. How about you also check your’s out." Halix suggested, his words firm and sure.
"Of course, I will— what, it’s two?!" He said in disbelief at the similar screen before him. "How could they give this to us, what was Mission Control thinking?!"
"That’s where the deal comes in. It’s more of a win-lose situation here instead."
"How?"
Halix paused and thought for a second. He had to sound more convincing as though nuts, one couldn’t crack Rfrien up easily.
"This soul is about 4 miles away from here." He pressed on, sounding much more convincing. Still, he hadn’t hit the right spot yet, "What a—"
Rfrien being about to speak, Halix zoomed out of the map bringing out the third dot. "A white one?!" There was a tremble in his voice and that was his green light to have his plans set in motion. "Rfrien, I’m one of the few able to look them I’m the eye. You don’t want to be clashing with them.
"Cla– cla– clashing with them. Who’d dare to want that?" Rfrien had taken the bait now, and all he had to do was reel it in without him slipping off. "Now, here’s the plan. Millions of souls can’t end up wasted on lower ranks and other team leaders."
"That’s true but..."
"Having your mission done first, you can immediately head back to the dense areas. After I will also—"
"Good, I’ll be off now then." Before he could finish his sentence, Rfrien was already heading in the direction of the soul. Leaving him staring at his screen construct, a smile crept up on his face. "Kekekeee that’s why I love math— more reaping for me then!"
