Chapter 97: New Villagers
The prince stared at Aric, his gaze unwavering. He slowly bent on one knee. The eyes of his followers widened as they saw their master on one knee. Even if Aric was the one that saved them, their leader should not lower himself so.
"Master Aric, I, the prince of the Ohre tribe, offer myself to you. I’ll serve you hereon after, if you help us kill the Terror," the prince said, his head bowed as he spoke.
"Young master, what are you saying?" the red Ogre stepped forward, asking, his fist clenched as he beheld this scene.
"We have no choice. Master Aric is willing to offer us a home and protection. It is the least we can do," the prince said.
"Your home is destroyed, and the Terror is out looking to wipe all of you away. Wouldn’t it be better if you stayed here and we worked together?" Aric asked. He got up from his chair and walked to the prince. He stretched out his hand to the prince.
"Get up," he said calmly. The prince looked up and grabbed the hand. Aric pulled him up.
"Let today be the start of the alliance between us. You are now part of Terra and under our protection. All of you," Aric said.
"Now onto a bigger issue—true names. I don’t know how you all identified yourselves without names, but you need names," Aric said.
"We did have names, but not true names," the prince said.
"Huh? How’s that possible?" Aric asked.
"We give ourselves names in order to be identified," he responded.
"Then why didn’t you tell me? What’s your name, prince?" he asked.
"My name is Ronan."
"Alright Ronan, as of today, your true name is Ronan," Aric said. Ronan’s eyes widened when he heard that. He looked at Aric, his shock evident. He could feel it inside of him—he had received an actual true name.
Happiness swirled inside of him, and he didn’t know how to even show his appreciation. He knew that Aric had spoken of giving names, but he didn’t think that he would do it now and just like that.
Aric looked away from the stunned prince and looked at the remaining four. "If you want a true name, step forward," he said, and a look of shock appeared on their faces.
"You... you can name more than one person a day?" the female Ogre with black hair asked. She was smaller in stature compared to the others, almost the same size as Ariel. She was seemingly the youngest, but Aric sensed a lot of strength from her in a way he couldn’t understand.
"Yes, I can. So do you want it?" Aric responded with a smile and asked her. Her eyes widened and her lips curled up into a beautiful smile. She looked like an extremely young and happy child.
"What’s your name?" Aric asked.
"My name is Rakene," she responded.
"That’s a name? Sorry Rakene, but I don’t like it. Someone as cute as you needs a cute name. How about Dawn?" Aric suggested.
Her smile widened, almost reaching her ears. "I love it," she said.
"Good, then I’ll name you Dawn."
His eyes moved to the bigger female ogre, but she immediately looked away, acting like she didn’t know he was looking at her.
Aric found her character amusing. He smiled and walked to her. "What’s your name?" he asked. She tried to stop herself from looking at him. She wanted to act like she didn’t care about what he was doing, but the offer of a true name was not something she could refuse.
She slowly turned her head to look at Aric. She forced herself to keep a cold expression as she spoke.
"My name is Nala," she spoke in a flat tone.
"That’s a beautiful name, Nala," Aric said. She looked away immediately when she heard the compliment.
Is she shy? What the hell? Either way, let’s get this over with.
"Your name is Nala," he said and moved on from her. He stood in front of the purple Ogre. He was slightly smaller than Ronan—he was the smallest male of the group.
He hadn’t said a word since he got here. He just observed what was happening. "Hmm, I don’t care what your name is. I’m naming you Twilight," Aric said. He expected the ogre to say something to refuse the name or something, but on the contrary, the ogre simply nodded.
Aric turned to look at the biggest Ogre—the red one. Their eyes locked and he could see the defiance in his eyes. Aric smiled and turned around. "You don’t seem ready to actually get a true name. Since you hate me so much, you can live without it," Aric said.
The ogre clenched his fist, gritted his teeth. Who wouldn’t want a true name? It was the easiest and best path to evolution, and seeing that all four had gotten their names, he would be the one left behind after all this.
His pride was high, but he couldn’t allow that pride to be his downfall. "I want the name, please," he forced the words out of his mouth.
Aric stopped and slowly turned around, his grin reaching up to his ears. "Good, but I’ll be the one choosing your name, and your name will be Ragna," Aric said.
Ragna opened his mouth to protest, but he repeated the name in his mind and he found it sounding pretty good.
"Thank you," he said.
Clap. Silva clapped and then opened his hands. "Welcome, all of you, to Terra. Oh, and another thing—you can’t tell anyone that the name of the village is Terra. We are planning to tell it to everyone when the Naming Festival comes," Aric said.
"We will do as you have said, Master Aric," Ronan said.
"Thank you. Now to other matters—the true names of all the other ogres and also housing," Aric said.
"You want to give all my people true names?" Ronan asked.
"Well yes. If they are going to be strong enough for the days ahead, it will be best if they evolve, though I’ll not be the one naming them," Aric said.
