Chapter 76: meeting

The next day, Ariel gathered the spirits, the three leaders of the goblins, and Elisa to the meeting table. She informed them that Aric wanted to have discussions with all of them early in the morning.

"Where’s Aric, isn’t he better here?" Pentharis asked.

"Calm down, he had a lot to do, unlike you that barely does anything," Unara said to him.

"Are you trying to say that I do nothing around here?" Pentharis asked.

"Enough of that, we don’t have the time for this, we are here simply to discuss with Aric because he believed that you all should have a say in the next steps that we are going to take. So if you do not control yourself, you will be kicked out and kept in the dark about the changes that will follow," Ariel warned. Her serious expression told them she wasn’t joking.

"Sorry for keeping you all waiting." Aric suddenly walked in, breaking the tense atmosphere that was building up.

He walked over to the top seat and immediately sat down. "I’m sorry that we had to pull all of you here like this, but the situation demands that you will be here," Aric said.

"It’s an honor that you’ll call us for your plans, Master," Ron said.

"Thank you, Ron," Aric replied.

"Alright, let’s get into business." Ariel said. She stood up, took one of the pieces of paper from the stack that was in front of her, and read the contents.

"The first issue here is the flow of power. The population has grown a lot in a few days, and we might also grow more in the future. There needs to be a concrete flow of power to make sure everything works well," Ariel said.

"Isn’t there already a hierarchy? Master Aric is the leader," Unara said.

"No, I believe what Lady Ariel is trying to say is we need a more detailed power system. Aric is the leader, true, but every organization needs more than one person to run things," Elisa said.

"That’s exactly what I’m trying to say. Operations would flow better if there was a proper leader over it. Aric assigned people before, but that was a temporary setup as far as I know. But now he’ll make a more permanent setup," Ariel said. She looked at Aric, signaling at him to talk.

"As much as I don’t think there’s an immediate need for this, Ariel is my advisor, and she has knowledge on ruling, and so does Elisa. So, if the both of them have agreed that we need a better system, then a better system is what we will get.

But I have something to add, and that’s the fact that I will not be giving any position to anyone yet because I am yet to know who is best for what.

So I’ll be spearheading everything basically for the next few days and seeing who I would like to take a role or not. If that’s not an issue, then we can move to the next issue," Aric said and looked at Ariel.

Sue didn’t expect him to say that, though. She wanted to completely remove him from the front, but Aric still found a way to push himself back into the front.

She let out a tired sigh and agreed to what he said. "I have no problem with that," Ariel said. "The next issue will be defense and development." Ariel said, but then Aric tapped her. "I’ll take this one, Ariel, please sit." She looked at him, then reluctantly sat down.

Aric got on his feet and walked away from his chair. "I spent some time thinking about where to head from here.

Firstly, before anything else, we still have the issue of the Forest Terror, and there’s no escaping the fact that he’ll attack us again.

Defense is the first priority for us. We might not be able to pull off the same thing we did before by trapping the goblins; they might come with a large force next time and completely run us down," Aric said.

"I feel you are insulting us, Master," Pentharis said. Aric was surprised when he said that; he didn’t see why Pentharis would say that.

"I’m with Pentharis on this one," Unara spoke. "We are higher spirits, all ten of us. It feels insulting for you to assume that an army of goblins will attack and defeat us," she said.

"No, that’s what I’m trying to say. It’s just... I’m trying to be prepared, that’s all," Aric said.

"The goblin you fought was one of their strongest, and you easily pushed him back, Master. I agree with the spirits, the Forest Terror is not a threat big enough to pull all your attention," Ron said.

"There’s a bigger issue we believe you should focus on now, Master," Lucas said.

"And what’s that?" Aric asked.

"Territory. You need to increase your territory," Lucas said.

"You mean expand? But I just built the wall. It really took us a lot to build the wall. I don’t want to have to take it down," Aric said.

"I think you need to. With the rate we are growing, we will need a little more space for farms, houses, and more. We need more space," she said.

"Fine, if all of you see territory as what we need, then we will go in that direction. But not yet. Our next order of things to do is clothes. The goblins are walking about without proper clothes.

And I can’t provide clothes for all of them, so we’ll need some goblins to learn how to make clothes. Ron, speak to the goblins and find out which of them would be willing to learn," Aric said.

"Aric, I have a suggestion. Taking on a lot of goblins will be too much for you. Why not teach me, and then I can teach the goblins?" Elisa offered.

"But Elisa, you have to deal with the farm," Aric said.

"The goblins have already picked up on farming. Most of them that worked with me have already awakened farm-related skills in only a day. I’m sure they can handle it, and I’ll be overlooking what’s happening," she said.
