Chapter 74: Personal Advisor

Ariel pulled Aric into the office she made for him. Aric looked around and was shocked with what she had already done—talk about efficient.

"This is awesome, Ariel, but I doubt I’ll be sitting inside a lot. There’s a lot to be done, and things to be handled. I have to be out on the field helping out," Aric said.

"No, you might think that, but I think otherwise. You should focus your energy from one place. You are the powerhouse, you feed the survival of everyone, so you can’t be out there always. We have already spoken about this," Ariel said.

"Fine, fine, I’ll do what you say, I’ll trust your process," Aric said and then took his seat. Ariel sat down opposite his table.

"Now, let’s get into the matters at hand. The first issue is we now have two powerful enemies at our necks: the Terror and the Baron that you have captured.

Do you have any plan on what to do with those issues?" she asked.

Aric leaned back into his chair. He thought about what she said for a bit, then leaned forward. "I don’t really know. It seems like a battle is inevitable on both sides.

If we send the Baron back, I’m very certain he’ll have a plan cooking to attack us as well. And as for the Terror, I’m certain that he’ll send another force or come himself," Aric said.

"You see, that’s the issue. You are war-minded, but I doubt that’s the only solution. Sure, it will be hard to avoid a war with the Terror, but we can work something out with the Baron for certain.

Humans are nothing but hungry, greedy creatures. Their lust for materialistic things knows no bounds. And from what I have observed from that Baron, he loves material things," Ariel said.

"You observed him? Hasn’t it been just a few hours after we ended the battle?" Aric asked.

"You have several new buildings already standing a few hours after the battle, and somehow, it’s the fact that I observed the Baron that shocks you?" Ariel said.

Aric gave a nervous chuckle in response to what she said.

"Right now, we might not have a lot of materials, but knowing you, that is bound to change over time. But even then, what we have is a lot: endless amounts of steel, thanks to Pentharis, wood that has been cut and polished. There is a lot to offer, and we will have even more to offer in the future.

We can use this opportunity to actually trade with the Baron, make him our first connection. He is a man who gains more than anything else. He risked the lives of fifty men to search for a treasure, so we can already guess from that.

If we speak to him right, we might just get benefits from this. I don’t know how you do all those things you do, but I’m sure that it comes at a cost, so if you have the opportunity to reduce it, I suggest we take it," Ariel said.

"Your idea is pretty good, Ariel, but let us not forget, he is a Baron. His land is tied to the kingdom, his loyalty should as well. How do we know that he won’t reveal us to his kingdom?" Aric asked.

"Because he is human, profit above all. His town is located at the very edge of the kingdom, right next to the forest. Even if he carried out some hidden operations, it would be very difficult for anyone to know," Ariel explained.

"So all of this is on the probability that the Baron is a greedy man, right? But if he is greedy, then wouldn’t he want to benefit from both ways? Take from us and take from his kingdom, but quietly give information about us to them?

He’ll gain from us a little, and then end up ratting us out for more gains from the kingdom," Aric said.

"That’s a considerable issue. Fine, let’s put off that issue for now. We’ll come back to it later. There is still more we should discuss before the day is over," Ariel said.

"Oh yeah, there’s something I wanted to talk about. It’s about the reading. I want everyone here to learn how to read at the very least.

I’ll provide all the materials that will be needed—everything. I just need you and Elisa to work on a time when we can get everyone some basic knowledge," Aric said.

"I don’t think that will be possible as it stands," Ariel said. Aric was not expecting that reply, but he wanted to know why she refused.

"The only people that we will be teaching will be those who were present at the meeting. You can’t allocate time or resources freely like that.

Everything should be earned, and as far as I know, only those at the table earned it," Ariel said.

"Ariel, education isn’t something that should be earned, it’s something that we should give to everyone," Aric said.

"Not in this case. If you keep bending yourself out of shape to carry everyone along, you’ll end up in a lot of stress.

For example, I’m sure you can’t remember the names of any of the goblins, aside from Ron, Lucas, Gunam, and the two new goblins, Rinka and Ginka.

Do you know why that is? It’s because you placed importance on them, and they also proved their importance to you. So they are worthy of your trust and the education you have to offer.

Maybe in the future, after you have developed further, then education can become a prime focus, but it isn’t for now. I would suggest you train them rather than teach them.

Most, if not all of them, are already honed for battle, so why not work on that and make them even better?" Ariel said.

"I guess you really fit the job of a personal advisor," Aric said.

"Yes, I do. Oh, and also, the plan you had for a bathhouse before, let’s put that on indefinite hold," she said.

"Wait, what?"
