Chapter 67: The Battle part 5
The sound of an explosion pulled everyone’s attention. They looked in the direction of the sound and saw flames reaching high several feet.
Aric immediately knew who that was. He wanted to rush to Ariel as fast as possible. Fear gripped him as he looked at the flames, but before he could take a step in her direction, the flames suddenly dispersed.
Standing there was Ariel, but she was not the Ariel that Aric knew. Her skin went ashy, and her eyes became purple. Rage filled her as she charged at the men.
She leaped into the air, going high several feet. She held her sword over her head, dark purple flames wrapping around her sword as she slashed down.
Her sword cleaved one man into two halves. The others watched in horror. She looked up at her next target. The man met her gaze and immediately tried to run, but she was far faster than him.
She ran past the man and faced him, her sword already in a diagonal motion as she slashed his chest. The purple flames burned his insides as she cut through, and the man died instantly.
She didn’t stop there. She spun on her feet and charged at the next man. The man tried to run but tripped on a stone and fell to the ground. She stood over him with her sword ready to kill.
The man looked up at her, his eyes begging for mercy. He opened his mouth to speak, but she didn’t let him. She stabbed the sword through his open mouth, and the tip tore out through his skull. The blood splattered and stained the floor.
By this time, all the men understood that they stood no chance against her. They scurried away as fast as their bodies could carry them, but she was too fast and got to them one by one.
Aric watched this. He felt like he didn’t know anything about Ariel. He watched her rip through man after man without remorse, killing them instantly.
The Baron saw that Aric was fully distracted by what Ariel was doing. He decided that this was the best time for him to take down the elf in front of him. He stabbed with his sword, but he had underestimated Aric’s ears.
Aric dodged to the side and then countered with a root. The Baron was able to block the root, but the force threw him into a tree. The tree immediately broke on impact.
The Baron got on his feet. He watched Aric, who just stood there nonchalantly, staring at him.
"How could you cast that sort of spell so fast?" the Baron asked.
"Honestly, that’s none of your business, and this whole thing has gone on for far too long. It’s time we end this," Aric said.
The Baron was confused about why Aric would say it was time to end it. Was Aric seriously trying to say he could end the fight whenever he wanted?
The Baron frowned because of this. He stood up straight and pointed his sword at Aric. "I have seemingly held back too much, and now you see that as weakness, but I won’t allow an elf to look down on me," the Baron said. Suddenly, he dashed.
His speed was faster than anything he had used before, charging at Aric with all his speed, ready to kill.
But like the Baron, Aric had also not gone all out. He figured it was a good time to show this man what he had. Aric suddenly punched the ground out of nowhere, but the punch sent seismic pulses through the ground and caused it to tremble, shaking violently like an earthquake.
He had used his spell, Seismic Crush, to firstly stop the approach of the Baron. The Baron fell to the ground due to the trembling, and before he could even get up, another attack was in order.
Boulder Barrage. Massive boulders of rock formed behind Aric, five in number. He hurled all of them one by one at the Baron.
The Baron saw the attack. He pushed himself off the ground as fast as he could, but he would not be able to dodge the first boulder, so he used his sword to attempt a parry.
He executed the parry as well as he humanly could, but the speed and weight of the boulder were an issue his strength could not resolve. His wrist bone in his right hand dislocated due to the force.
He let out a pained groan, but he knew he couldn’t stop yet. He switched immediately to his left hand and then used Dash to dodge the second boulder.
He got out of the line of sight for the boulders and survived the first, but as he looked at Aric, Aric was already creating another set of five. This time, he didn’t hurl them in one direction. He hurled the first boulder at the Baron.
The Baron dodged it, but as soon as he did, another one was already close to him. His mind screamed at him to get out of the way, but his body would not be able to move at that speed, so in a last-ditch effort, the Baron swung to parry.
The shock of the impact was massive in his left arm. His wrist dislocated in his left hand, as well as a few fingers.
Even then, he was unable to fully parry the boulder. It grazed his right shoulder, bursting through his armor and tearing away his flesh.
He staggered back, refusing to fall. He looked up and was met with another boulder. The boulder slammed into his chest with pinpoint accuracy.
The boulder picked him up and slammed him into a tree. The Baron coughed blood before falling to the ground unconscious.
[You defeated a strong opponent]
[20,000 gold, 500 EXP]
Aric didn’t know that he could also get rewards for just defeating people without killing them. Maybe this was a special occasion, though.
He also didn’t understand why the system would call the Baron a strong opponent. After all, he was defeated easily.
