Chapter 57: Look into their abilities
"I see, this cave seems to have a very elaborate organization of things," Aric said. He didn’t expect that the monsters would have this sort of setup in place.
"I will get to know more about the cave and more, but right now, we are about to face a crisis. Your cave wants to attack us," Aric said. As he spoke, he heard a loud shriek. He looked in the direction of the second goblin and saw that it had also had its crystal removed.
He turned his attention back to the goblin in front of him. "Do you know anything about this?"
"I don’t. I wasn’t told about it, but a ton of goblins are getting ready. I think it might be for what you said," the goblin responded.
"So they won’t be coming against us with their full army? Just a few?" Aric asked.
"I believe so. I don’t think you’ll be seen as a big enough threat to send out something bigger," the goblin said.
"Alright, thank you for talking to me. Ron and the others will take care of you, though we will have to keep you under supervision for a while," Aric said and got up.
"Wait, please, I need something from you. Please," the goblin said. Aric stopped and looked at him, wondering what it could be about.
"Like me, many of the goblins there do not want to be there. They were born there and have faced heavy suffering every day since their birth. They were forced into what they do.
Goblins might be savage creatures, but even we do not deserve the treatment that we get there. So I want to ask you a favor, and I will fully understand if that’s not possible.
I want you to save us if possible. I know this is a tall order, but I promise that I’ll serve you till my death if you do," the goblin said.
"Why? Why are you standing for them? I understand that in the life of goblins, you try to survive, not make friends. Sure, goblins move in packs, but you will turn against yourselves if need be," Aric said.
"Our case was different because the environment we were born into changed us all. We learned to lean on each other, trying to bear the pain that was put on us.
We formed groups within our generation and also helped the newer generations. I can’t say if it worked to make us feel better, but it definitely created a connection between all of us.
A connection that was severed by the contract and the seal. It took away our ability to care for each other. We watched ourselves with pain in our hearts but were unable to do anything at all.
It was terrible—the fact that we didn’t have any choice in our lives. And now they will be coming to fight you, and they might die in that battle. Without a choice, without free will, they’ll die as puppets," the goblin said. His tone held true pain, the slight trembling in his voice making it clear how he felt.
Aric bent down and looked the goblin in the eye. "I hear you, and I understand you. The enemy isn’t your brothers but the terror that lives in the cave.
So here’s my promise to you. We will try to capture them all. Death will only be a last resort in the occasion that we don’t know what to do anymore.
But if you want to ensure that we can capture them, I’ll need all the help I can get, especially yours," Aric said. He got up to his feet and stretched out his hand to help the goblin up.
The goblin looked over to his partner that had just had his crystal removed. He ran over to him and helped him off the ground.
"Thank you for freeing us. This is the first time in a very long while that I’ve ever been able to think on my own without orders being sent to my head," the goblin said.
Silva nodded in response and then headed for the door. "The house is done. Now we have to furnish it and also start on the farm, Ron. Everything has to finish today because tomorrow, we prepare for battle," Aric said and walked out.
Despite the fact that the person coming after them was Forest Terror, Aric didn’t feel that scared. He felt the need to get ready, but no fear.
When he walked out, he noticed that Penthis had made loads of weapons of different types stacked up—swords, arrow tips, spear tips, shields, and a lot more. But they were only the metal parts; they weren’t finished.
"How did you do all this?" Aric asked in shock. He had only asked for swords, as he felt that was the easiest weapon to craft and that Pentharis would lack the know-how to craft other things.
"Well, while you were in there doing who knows what—by the way, we heard the screams—Ariel came to me. She had so much knowledge of weapons, weight balance in weapons, and lots more.
With her help, I was able to make all these different weapons," Pentharis said.
"I didn’t think she had that sort of knowledge," Aric said.
"You don’t think at all," Pentharis said. He looked up at Aric and continued speaking. "Look around you. You have ten higher spirits, each with different sets of abilities, ready to do what you say. You have a huge number of goblins as well—well, you have been maximizing those ones, to be honest; their work shows.
But then there is Lady Ariel and Elisa as well. All these people could really be helping you develop faster, but you are trying to spearhead everything," Pentharis said.
Aric looked at him with a slightly confused look. "But I’ve been letting you all do stuff," he said.
"No, you haven’t. Go look into the abilities of the spirits and use them properly. Do you know how hard it is to have a higher spirit? And you have ten," Pentharis said.
