Chapter 162: Officially yours
Chapter 162: Officially yours
Athan snapped in his reverie when Azrael probed again, doubting that the guy only visited to see his brother. "So, what brought you here? Do you have something to say? To me? Or should I call Knox?"
Athan hesitated. After a minute, he shook his head and announced, "Father asked to see Knox—
Azrael, "He’s sick."
Athan eyed him exasperatedly. He pursed his lips and finished his words, "I know. I was going to say Knox and you if you hadn’t cut me off. Seriously, will it kill you to let people finish talking? That kind of attitude is very rude. I advised you not to act like that in front of my father."
Azrael scoffed, "How sure are you that I will accept his invitation?"
"You won’t? Then, your relationship won’t progress. Anyway, he didn’t mention when; he just said that you’re welcome anytime you come and that...there will be no repeat of what happened yesterday," Athan reassured him.
Azrael chuckled deviously, not hiding his displeasure and mistrust at his words. He shrugged his shoulders and turned away, mumbling, "I tell Knox, but if he doesn’t want to come, then we won’t come."
Azrael, "You don’t have to rush it. He said that anytime he’s—
"What if Knox doesn’t want to see him anymore?" Azrael halted and glanced over his shoulder, giving Athan a challenging look. "Will he give his blessing even if we don’t see him? I’m sure you’ve already told him that Knox and I plan to marry. Is that why he wanted to see us?"
"What you said is very unlikely," Athan responded. Azrael’s face darkened, but he wasn’t frightened or threatened by his thickening pheromones or his dangerous glares at all. He calmly continued, "I meant about Knox not wanting to see our father anymore. And about the blessing, I’m not sure, and I haven’t told him. No. I won’t tell him. That is a matter that Knox should...tell him directly."
"I’m glad you’re still thinking straight, brother-in-law," Azrael smirked at the man.
Athan’s face distorted as he replied with sharp words, "So, until your wedding, do me a favor and stop calling me that way."
"I’m practicing."
"I don’t give a damn."
"What’s going on? Are you fighting?" Knox’s voice caught their attention. Azrael turned to him and asked where Knoa was, so he answered, "In the bedroom. He wanted to learn to dress himself alone so I let him."
Azrael’s eyes sparkled. He eagerly asked, "Is this his first time dressing up alone?"
"Without help, yes. I’ve taught him how to properly—
Knox hadn’t even finished his words when Azrael zoomed out and stormed into the bedroom where Knoa was. Athan clicked his tongue, garnering the omega’s attention again.
"He has a knack for cutting people’s speeches," he grumbled, making his younger brother giggle.
Knox defended his alpha, "He was just excited to see Knoa’s first. He still grumbled that he couldn’t see how he learned to walk, speak, and or do many things. He’s a good father, A."
Athan didn’t answer. Knox sighed and asked again, "So, what did you talk about?"
"I told him already. Just ask him," Athan checked the time on his wristwatch. "I should go."
He spun and walked to the door. Knox followed him, speaking apologetically, "I’m sorry that I can’t come to the office and report. I heard that the design team was already planning the winter collection. You must have been so busy, and having a hard time. Once the news dies down, I will come."
"You don’t have to," Athan looked back at him. "I already opened your position and I’m actually interviewing some applicants now. I’ll send you all your things once I’m done packing them."
Knox’s eyes widened in shock. He grabbed his brother and asked frantically, "Huh? A, wait... did I get fired? So, now I’m unemployed?"
Athan furrowed his brows in confusion, "Unemployed? For now, yes. But did Althea not inform you yet?"
"About what?" Knox was baffled. His older sister hasn’t been reaching out to him after the Sunflower orphanage’s event. Did she even call when he was sick? Knox wondered. He checked his phone and was astounded at the number of calls registered on his call logs in just a day.
He answered Athan while thinking how did that happen, "No, not yet. What it is? Is she asking me to proxy again?"
Athan sighed. He shrugged his shoulders and opened the door, muttering, "Just ask her. She’ll explain it to you in detail...and, if you’re wondering why she didn’t call you at all, she was just...not feeling well."
Knox was about to ask more, but Athan’s gaze went past him and he nodded curtly, before saying, "I’m going."
"Yeah, drive safe," Azrael answered, standing behind Knox. Athan weirdly looked at him, so he added, "What?"
The alpha didn’t respond and just left. After that, Knox inquired about their conversation, and although reluctantly, Azrael honestly told him everything.
"Why do you think he suddenly wants to see us?" Knox asked, bewildered. After chasing him out, now he wanted to see him?
"Your brother just said not to think about it," Azrael reassured him, rubbing his arms to erase his anxiousness.
Knox, "I can’t help it. It’s already making me nervous. Why does he want you to come too? If he’s just going to insult you..."
"If he insults me, or us, then I’ll just drag you away from that place. And don’t worry about me, my dear, he can curse at me all he wants, see if his words will affect me at all. Only your words matter to me. I don’t care about him even if he dances naked or kowtows backward, but if you don’t want to come, then we don’t have to," Azrael said, hugging his future husband from the back.
Knox looked up at Azrael, unsure how to take his words.
Azrael innocently gazed back at him. He told Knox that they didn’t need to rush. They could come after he fully recovered and he was ready. He guided Knox back inside and suggested, "Let’s just watch what I recorded. It’s our genius son learning how to tie a necktie."
Knox wondered why Azrael even mentioned a necktie, but when their child appeared before him, he couldn’t contain his laughter seeing him in white shirt, black pants, and suspenders, but instead of a bow, a messily tied necktie was on his neck, reaching his knees.
Azrael whispered from behind him, "I said he’ll be our ring bearer, so he earnestly studied to dress like that."
Before Knox could answer, he felt a cold object slip on his finger. Looking down on his left hand, a shiny, black band seemingly carved out from a black diamond, with a line of grey of the same stone, in the middle.
Knox’s eyes watered. He looked up at Azrael and saw the same colors in him. His heart swelled with happiness and he started to wonder if it was possible to be that happy, if he deserved to feel that way.
However, the uncertainties in his eyes were clouded when the man brought his hand to his lips and kissed it, pouring all his emotions on them. He stopped wondering where did Azrael get the ring, or how unromantic his proposals were.
When Knoa turned around to look at himself in the mirror, Knox tiptoed and kissed the waiting Azrael. Then, he whispered after their lips parted, "I love you. Thank you for this. It’s beautiful."
Azrael’s smile grew wider. He hugged Knox tightly and whirled them around, sealing his lips once more before Knoa noticed them.
