Chapter 161: A morning visit

Knoa sat on the table, wagging his feet below. His little hands hovered on the table as though he was wiping or drawing something, but his eyes were always darting to his omega’s father who was helping his Daddy with washing the dishes.

He heard his alpha father speak, reprimanding his hard-headed Papa, "Get out of here, Knox Arden. Let me do this."

His frail and pretty father would answer sternly, "Really? Look at this one, it’s chipped after it slid from your hand. Can you wash them without cracking them? Besides, why are you insisting on washing them manually? You have a functioning dishwasher!"

Azrael laughed at his lover’s baffled face. He puckered his lips and answered naughtily, "Our son is watching. They say a man looks cool in the kitchen, but he’s cooler when he’s on the sink wearing an apron and gloves while scrubbing utensils."

Laughter echoed in the dining hall.

Knox shook his head. He was indeed attracted by the man’s broad shoulder, and he wanted to wrap his arms around that slim waist and lay his head on his wide back.

He looked back at the table where Knoa was sitting, seemingly frenzied. Knox discerned the little guy had something to say, so he walked back to the table but put a considerable distance since he has still a bit of fever.

Knoa stared at his father with his green doe eyes, worry etched on them as he spoke, "Papa, are you okay, now? Are you not sick anymore?"

He kept fiddling with his hands, moving them around the table as if he couldn’t stay calm. Knox wondered if the kid was feeling uneasiness after witnessing him faint before.

So, to reassure the kid, Knox took his son’s hands and brought them into his forehead. He then flashed a wide smile, "Here, you can touch Papa to check. What do you think, doctor Knoa?"

An innocent smile broke in the kid’s face and he shyly answered, "Mr. Papa’s a bit hot. You still have a fever. You should rest and not flirt, Mr. Papa."

Knoa was shy because his Papa called him a doctor, which meant that he probably remembered what he whispered to him before after meeting his Uncle Kayden. His father looked at him with shock and pride when he said he wanted to save lives.

The kid’s thoughts were drowned by loud laughter in the background, accompanied by another sound of something crashing. Knoa looked at his alpha father whose shoulders were shaking hard while bending a bit on the sink.

He wondered why, but he simply thought that his father might have remembered something funny, so he turned his head back to his omega father and was more confused seeing his face turned red.

Knox cleared his throat after glaring daggers at Azrael. Then, he let go of the kid’s hands and rubbed his head, saying, "I’m fine now, baby. I’m recovering but still, I don’t want you to catch my remaining fever so you have to be with your Daddy for now."

His shoulders also drooped and he looked saddened when he mentioned his schooling, "Also, you can’t go to school in the meantime because...umm..." Knox had a hard time choosing his words.

The kid likes going to school, so he wasn’t sure what reason he should say this time. Azrael noticed his dilemma and chipped in.

"Because your Papa is sick and he needs you to be here so he’ll recover quickly. So, you have to stay at home for now, is that okay, doctor Knoa?" Azrael said.

Knoa beamed and he even threw his hands in the air, bouncing on his seat, "Of course! I’ll take care of Papa! I can do it!"

"That’s my son!" Azrael thumbed up at him and continued picking up the broken plates, pretending like he couldn’t feel Knoa’s piercing gaze. A goofy grin was plastered on his face, recalling what made him break the plate.

Their harmonious and simple family bonding was interrupted when the doorbell sounded.

Knox put the kid down on the floor and walked to check who visited them. After seeing his older brother’s face on the monitor, his heart thumped in nervousness. The last time he saw Athan was when they were found out, and he hadn’t come to the office and reported ever since the news broke out.

Judging from his older brother’s clothes, it did seem like he was off to work. Knox pressed the unlock button and the door swung open, revealing Athan carrying a basket of fruits and his favorite flowers.

He stopped by the door when their eyes met. Awkwardness still remained between them, but Athan still approached him and kissed him on the forehead, like he always does.

This also allowed the alpha to check his temperature. He then stated, "Your fever has gone down. Thank goodness."

Knox smiled briefly and walked in, guiding the guy inside, "I heard Knoa called you. You must have been shocked..."

"Indeed, I was. I was having dinner with the family when he called, so I had to drive an hour to arrive. Thankfully, he called your boy...friend too. I arrived after him," Athan answered, still reluctant to admit their relationship but no longer blatantly expressing his opposition.

"Uncle A!" Knoa came running to the man who put the basket down and bent, lifting the kid up to his arms.

Knox was alarmed, worried that his suit would crumple, but Athan didn’t seem bothered at all.

"Hello, kid, how are you? You’re not going to school?" Athan asked as we wiped the kid’s forehead, casually checking his temperature as well. He sighed in relief that he wasn’t ill.

Knoa answered him energetically, "No. I’ll have to take care of Papa!"

"Oh," Athan picked up the basket and gave it to his brother. "Right. I brought this for you."

Knox, "Thank you."

Azrael appeared, wiping his hands on his yellow apron, and took the basket from Knox after nodding at Athan. "I’ll take them. Have a seat."

Athan nodded back as a form of greeting. He declined the offer, "No. I need to leave soon. I just have something I need to say."

Knox and Azrael exchanged glances. The former excused himself and went to the bathroom to help brush his child’s teeth, giving the two alphas privacy.

Azrael then began, informing the other alpha, "One of my men reported that some suspicious people are lingering in his school, so we won’t be sending him anytime soon. Besides, we are also planning to move him here. There’s a daycare center nearby."

Athan’s face darkened. "Are they your father’s men?"

"No. Reporters," Azrael immediately denied. He sighed and gave Athan a firm look, "I won’t let my father’s men, or even him, approach them."

Athan was doubtful, but he decided to trust the man. He peeked at the door where Knox and Knoa disappeared, then he gave Azrael a troubled look. This morning, he received a call from his father.

However, even he was disappointed in his family after what happened. What his sister told him only deepened his disappointment to them, particularly to his father. So, he was reluctant to relay his message to Knox.
