Chapter 109: What are my options?

Chapter 109: What are my options?

Knox lowered his head. He stared at the floor blankly, his mind was preparing his heart for what would come next. His father wanted him to choose, and he had a feeling that would greatly affect him and Knoa.

He inhaled deeply, gathering the courage to continue. "You...told me to choose...what are my options?"

Nathaniel subtly smiled. His voice was strict but there was a hint of understanding and concern in it. "If you want to seek justice from that person, I can help you with that without batting an eyelash about Shawn’s situation. But if you want to stop to help your brother’s fiancé, it will be hard for me to agree to that, so I want a condition."

Knox gulped, "...what condition?"

Nathaniel sighed. He stood and walked to Knox. He stopped right before him and held his shoulder as he bore his eyes on him. There was sadness in his eyes, and Knox wasn’t blind to not see that.

His heart began to sink as soon as his father’s low voice came again, "Son, as I said, I wanted to protect you. That’s the last thing I wanted to do for Killian. I know he wanted you safe as well, away from these perilous situations. Azrael Del Valle is a dangerous one. Severe any connection you had with him. That’s all I ask."

Nathaniel saw his son’s eyes tremble and watered. He averted his gaze and gave him one more pat on the shoulder before deciding to leave. Even without hearing it, he already knew what Knox’s answer would be.

As he said, Knox and Killian were similar. They were both selfless and kind.

Knox was left in the room, standing like a stone statue, staring blankly at the wall. The tears that pooled at the corner of his eyes were threatening to fall if he so much as blinked.

A thought dashed in his head as he looked up, ’How did it become so hard to be with him? Why now that I finally told him the truth? What should I do, Azrael? I want to hear your voice.’

He went back to his room after that. Shawn managed to sneak him a phone inside through Knoa, so he now could call Azrael anytime, without borrowing his phone.

He stiffened after pressing the call button beside Azrael’s number.

Shawn was a big help, to him and Knoa. He was the reason why he was in that difficult situation. On top of that, he was Athan’s fiancé. What would be the best thing to do?

He stared at the phone connecting, but after a few rings, the call wasn’t answered. It felt like the catalyst for his decision. He justified his choice, but no matter how, he couldn’t keep himself from breaking.

The phone fell on the floor with a thud, along with the tears that he kept holding back. If his father asked to sever his connection to Azrael, then he would do so.

But he won’t stop Knoa from meeting his father. Slowly, they’d convince his father to give them a chance, for the sake of his grandson.

Two days later, inside the hospital, Azrael was flipping the entire room to find the phone Luis left.

He already lifted everything, but how come he hasn’t found it yet?! He was beginning to lose patience. He looked outside the door. There were four more guards that came, they all turned their heads at him when he peeked.

*F*ck all of you. Go to hell, you as*holes. Let me borrow a phone."

No one moved to lend him. He gritted his teeth and grabbed the collar of the nearest one, "I’m just going to call my secretary to ask about the company! I’ve been holed up here, if the company went bankrupt because of you lots, I’m going to sell all your organs instead. Give me a phone, quick."

The man grunted. He fished his phone in his pocket. Azrael snatched the object and let the guard go. He walked back inside and dialed Knox’s number which he already memorized.

Glancing over his shoulders, he saw the guards watching him. He grimaced at them and opened the television to mask his voice somehow. However, he already called ten times, but Knox wasn’t answering.

His heart pounded. Did he leave? Did he run away now to hide our son? He suddenly had those thoughts swirling in his head.

"Breaking news on NewsTime! The ongoing investigation of Chairman Nathaniel’s youngest son, Knox Arden’s abduction case had come to a close..."

Azrael’s head whipped back on the screen.

"The police concluded that the cause of the crime was personal issues and disputes involving Chairman Rage Del Valle’s personal secretary, and the DV Group CEO Azrael Del Valle. The aforementioned personal secretary of the business tycoon had been said to be in a bad relationship with the latte’s son....

"A witness stand claiming that the suspect had been trying to usurp the heir position from the CEO of the DV Group. The suspect was known as an orphan sponsored by the chairman who began working under him as soon as he graduated, harboring an ill will to inherit all his sponsor’s wealth...

"The suspect kidnapped the victim, Mr. Knox Arden, and used him to threaten the DV Group CEO, as the two had been engaged in a secret relationship causing the break-up of the CEO and the international model...

"Many had expressed their support for the two, but many are also wondering if this relationship is really genuine and true, or just another union between business-minded families opting for greater opportunities...

"As of now, the suspect hasn’t been found and the police are trying their best to locate the criminal. Back to you..."

"Sir, you might want to close your mouth, or else a fly might nest inside."

Azrael blinked. He closed his mouth, but his eyes were still filled with incredulity. Luis walked to the television and took something from behind.

Luis, "The guard said he wanted his phone back."

Azrael, still dazed, extended his hand that held the phone. Luis sighed and snatched it, walking to the door and giving back the object to the guard.

"Snapped out of it, sir. You heard the news. The case is over. Philip is a wanted man now, although he’s dead already. The Horace Family withdraws their claim against your father—

"Why would they do that?" Azrael asked, utterly confused. He could swear he heard Athan saying he’d make sure his father would be scrubbing toilet bowls in prison, so why did he retreat?

Did his father threaten them?

He quickly took the phone from Luis and called Knox again. In just a few rings, someone finally answered.

A tiny and childish voice came through, "Hello~."
