Chapter 101: The devil’s wrath and redemption

Lightning flashed across the sky followed by the booming thunder. Shawn flinched as he sat on the driver’s seat of the car parked behind the building’s corner, where they tracked Knox’s location.

He kept biting his lower lip out of fear for Athan who went inside. It had been thirty minutes since he did already, yet there was no sign of him coming back. Shawn was beginning to be extremely worried.

The building was an unconstructed high-rise building. It was unkempt and looked dangerous; the walls were covered in graffiti; mountains of gravel and sand were piled everywhere, obstructing the building from view, and making the road gravelly because of the rain washing them away; metal beams were hanging above looking as though a mere movement would make them fall and pierce the ground; and the scaffoldings looked like they’d be dismantled by the wind.

Although there were protective nets above, Shawn was uncertain whether they were affixed properly or the years of abandonment might have loosened their knots. Every time the wind blew and they shook, Shawn was frightened that the building might collapse.

Athan strictly forbade him from going out of the car, so all he could do was pester Kayden to send his men quickly. He had never felt so desperate before, and after pushing the alpha away, there he was shamelessly asking him to come quickly.

Suddenly, his head perked when he saw another car coming inside. Its headlights were in full beam, and driving on the gritty road made it look easier as it didn’t even stop. The sound of its engine was so loud it seemed like an angered vehicle, looking as though it was ready to run over anything.

"Is it him?" Shawn mumbled, hopefully. He was tempted to get out of the car.

However, there was only one car that arrived. And as though it heard what Shawn thought earlier, the car indeed bulldozed on the hill of sand and gravel, almost tipping the car over yet it persevered and jumped the obstacle, then it landed on the other side hitting the pile of woods and blocks.

"Oh, my god!"

Shawn quickly stepped out of the car, unbothered by the pouring rain. If that car was the enemy’s reinforcement, then Athan would be in danger more!

’The driver seemed drunk and mad! I need to help Athan to find Knox quickly! Shit. Shit. Why didn’t I do it earlier?! I could have been more helpful!’ Shawn frantically slipped into the side part of the building.

He saw some men unconscious and on the way. Athan must have passed in the same direction! He dashed into the deeper part of the ground floor. Thankfully, the inside was clearer although obstructed by large columns, but the floor was even.

It was a bit dark, but the lightning strikes were helping him traverse the floor and look for people. The sound of the car screeching caught Shawn’s attention.

Then, a scream followed.

Shawn ran in that direction, thinking it was an unfamiliar scream, which meant it might be Athan who was fighting. He reached the car parked in the middle of the building with its lights still on. He quickly ducked and peeked on the other side.

His eyes widened after seeing Azrael fight with the kidnapper.

’Then, that means...!’ Shawn crawled to the other side to not be seen. He saw Knox on the floor, almost naked with just a coat covering his lower body.

Shawn immediately ran to his fellow omega.

"Knox!" He whispered, gaining Knox’s attention who seemed distraught.

Knox turned to Shawn with fear. For a moment, he thought it was an enemy, since Shawn’s face was against the lights, and because his eyes won’t adjust from the headlights and were quite blurred from tears.

"S-Shawn...?"

"It’s me. Quick, let’s get inside the car!" Shawn grabbed Knox’s shoulders and helped him stand. He had a hard time carrying him since his build was smaller than Knox’s.

Finally, they reached the car. He opened the car door in the backseat and helped Knox get in. After that, he quickly rummaged through the compartment for anything to cover Knox since he was trembling.

He wore the coat to Knox, but his pants were ripped as well, so he needed something to cover his legs. There were hand marks on Knox’s upper thighs, which made Shawn boil in fury. He bit his lower lip, but he still ended up sobbing.

"I’m sorry, Knox. Wear my pants!" Shawn was about to unbutton his pants when Knox stopped him.

Knox curled himself, bringing his knees on his chin. He covered his legs with Azrael’s coat as he hugged his knees tightly, and he breathed in that familiar scent. He finally felt relieved and safe. Shawn sat next to him silently, patting his back, and ready to offer his own clothes if his trembling didn’t subside.

Slightly, the warmth exuding from Shawn’s body was helping him. Knox glanced back outside the window where Azrael was fighting Philip.

A few men rushed in and attacked Azrael. Some went straight to the car, but Shawn was quick to lurch into the driver’s seat and locked the doors. He sighed in relief, but Knox looked afraid. He followed his gaze, only to find that seven men were surrounding Azrael.

"Ah, h-hey, don’t worry, Knox. I’m sure, Sir Azrael can—

"ARRRGHH!"

Shawn’s voice was interrupted by an agonizing shout from the outside. They were already inside the car, yet the scream sounded like it was next to their ears.

Knox flinched. Terror flashed in his teary green eyes. From the headlights that brightened the place, Azrael’s shadow holding a piece of steel loomed over a guy kneeling before him. The tip of the deformed steel was pierced on the man’s left eye.

If the man hadn’t grabbed it, it would have broken into his skull.

"Shit!" Another man shouted. He held a metal post and rushed to Azrael. The latter pulled the steel but the guy with the bleeding eye didn’t let go. Azrael had no choice but to abandon his weapon and dodge the attack.

Another guy lunged from behind him, hooking his arms and locking them from behind. Without hesitation, Azrael jerked his head backward, slamming it to the person behind. The guy staggered and Azrael took that opportunity.

He snatched his left arm back and elbowed the man in the nose with so much force. He spun around and grabbed the falling man by the head using his left hand, and with his injured right hand, he smashed his fist on his face without stopping.

Philip who suffered from brief unconsciousness regained his senses again. His head was bleeding, but he seemed unaffected. He snatched the metal post from his subordinate and took revenge on Azrael who kept punching the other guy until all of his teeth fell.

Azrael’s eyes were glazed. His grey eyes were unblinking, dripping with intense murderous intent, as if he was a killing machine that attacked whoever harmed him and wouldn’t let go until the attacker was dead.

Philip smashed the post on his head.

Knox screamed Azrael’s name and almost jumped out of the car if only Shawn didn’t hug him. One of Philip’s guys noticed the slight movement of the vehicle. He picked up a large piece of debris and was about to smash it on the window when a flying kick suddenly hit his head.

Athan came from behind. He stole the other guys’ attention and fought with them.

On the other hand, Azrael’s vision was slightly obstructed by blood dripping from his head. One of his knees fell on the floor and he finally let go of the motionless guy.

Philip raised the metal post again but Azrael moved quickly even though his ears were ringing and his vision was unfocused. The metal ended up hitting his shoulder blade instead.

Azrael grunted. But like an emotionless robot, he hastily shoved his head on Philip’s stomach, and grabbed his waist, pushing him to the hood of the car.

"F*CK YOU! LET ME GO!" Philip kicked his knees to Azrael.

Azrael was pushed away, but he grabbed Philip’s hand which held the metal post, and twisted it back, enduring the pain of constantly being kicked. Philip groaned, and his grip on the weapon loosened.

Azrael snatched it quickly. Without ever stopping to let himself breathe from the kicks and punches Philip threw at him, he held the metal post with both of his hands and used the ends to strike Philip in the face.

As the tip of the post was hollow inside, the rim was still hard, rustic, and a bit sharp. Azrael hooked Philip’s face with it while the latter reached on his collar and tried to strangle him.

Azrael pinned him to the hood with one blow to the forehead. Philip’s eyes rolled backward and he soon lost consciousness again.

Knox and Shawn inside the car who witnessed everything sighed in relief after seeing Philip lost. However, their eyes widened and trembled when Azrael smashed the post on the motionless guy’s head, repeatedly.

The hood of the car splattered with blood from the broken head and face of Philip. He was unrecognizable.

Philip’s men who witnessed the scene shuddered in fear. They rushed in to help their boss, but then a few more men in black suits arrived and ran forward, subduing every one of them.

Athan glanced around. He spotted Azrael, and his eyes bulged in the bloody scene. Without thinking, he rushed to him and grabbed his arm, stopping him from throwing another strike.

"That’s enough," Athan spoke with warning. He couldn’t even stomach looking at the guy on the hood.

Azrael turned to Athan and tried to attack him as well. The two omegas inside the car shouted. Knox yelled at Shawn to open the car door, which the latter quickly obeyed.

Everything happened in an instant. Athan subdued Azrael who seemed to have lost his sanity and attacked everyone in sight. The madness in his eyes was deep and all he could see was the image of Knox naked on the floor, bruised and beaten, trembling, and crying.

He saw red instantly. His pheromones flared and suffocated everyone, but even with difficulty, Knox, with only the coat over his body that somehow reached his hips and covered his important parts, walked to Azrael.

Anger flashed in Athan’s eyes after noticing the hand marks on his thighs. His arms loosened for a moment, giving Azrael a chance to escape. But before he could do so, Knox appeared before his sight.

Azrael halted. As if the clouds that obstructed his eyes from seeing reason vanished; as if he finally remembered why he was fighting with uncontrollable madness; his eyes shook at the sight of his purpose.

In just a few quick and large strides, he stood before Knox, throwing his arms over him. Azrael buried his head in Knox’s neck, enveloping him in his own scent and erasing the smell of another alpha lingering on his omega.

Knox was astonished by what he witnessed. But, when Azrael’s shoulders began trembling ever slightly, he felt a stream of liquid trickle down his neck and shoulder. His eyes widened and his lips quivered.

Azrael’s image standing before the car frightened him a bit. But after that, he didn’t care anymore. He just threw his hands and wrapped them around Azrael’s neck, and cried in his embrace.
