Bride To His Darkness -
Chapter 80: A Distraction
Chapter 80: A Distraction
"Why are you doing this?!!" Samantha, unable to sit back and silently contain the atrocities of his actions, had asked the hunter who appeared more relaxed after revealing his spiteful intentions of wanting to end the head-maid. He simply reclined against the chair, watching her whimsically before considering asking.
"Do you care that much for a lowly vampiress?"
"She has done nothing to you, your actions can’t be justified." Samantha countered back with considerable daring. "You can’t kill an army of Humans because one human did you wrong! You’re about to take the life of the innocent for someone else’s mistake and that is illogical, so bring her back! Feed her the antidote or something!"
The urgency in her voice didn’t go unnoticed, and she constantly switched gazes between the head maid and the hunter whose brown eyes glinted with pure amusement. For a second, Samantha assumed he would listen to her advice but that presumption had been an early guess, because before she knew it, he had his blade against her throat, and Samantha’s pupils dilated when his eyes twitched in fury.
But where on Earth did he draw out the blade from?
"A friend to my enemy, is also my enemy." He reminded her, and then all of a sudden they could hear the head maid coughing out as her body shook. The abrupt sound had the two maidens glancing in her direction to see the head maid was slowly regaining consciousness, and a look of relief washed over their demeanors when her eyes fluttered open.
But if she’s alive then....
"I never really killed her, it was a mere overdose." The hunter answered the question he was sure would be marveling in her mind. Her expressive green eyes already revealed her inner thoughts, but his tone was far from being friendly as the sharp tip of his blade touched the center of her throat - she could feel the cold sharpness it possessed sending shivers down her spine.
"Who do you think I am? I listen to no one, do save your speech. After all, you’ve chosen to sell yourself to those demonic vampires. He seethed. "If they treated you so well, explain to me why you made the decision to elope? The palace is filled with luxury, it’s an honor for a commoner to work there, so why did you give that up?"
"What are you doing?!" Lucy’s eyes widened at the sight of his blade on Samantha’s throat, the urgency in her voice had broken the string that held their gaze together, and when the Hunter’s brown eyes moved in her direction, she swallowed the next phrase she had been meaning to spit out.
"In all honesty I want to let you go, but you’re making getting rid of you sound like the best option to me." He scowled internally, and the head maid immediately sat up in fright upon noticing the dire state everyone was presently in. Before she could demand from the hunter why he was doing all of this to them, another henchman stepped into the tent, and in his hand were dishes of food he had brought for them.
Without saying a word to anyone, he dropped it in front of the two maidens and stepped back. His face was masked like the leader who still had his blade against her throat, and when he backed away slowly, the leader commanded.
"Eat your meal, you won’t survive the next day if you don’t."
"Are you going to kill us?" Lucy inquired hesitantly, but the leader of the hunters arched his eyebrow at her and said. "That solely depends on your behavior, stay out of my Layne, and the both of you will be free to return to the Palace. When you do, please inform Lord Ivan of how kindly we treated his subjects. Knowing him he should have been informed about the ambush already, but will he consider looking for you? I doubt it."
"Lord Ivan isn’t as heartless as you paint him to be." The head maid spoke up from where she sat, "he will find us, he prioritizes the safety of his people and his kind."
"Do you want to go back to sleep?" The leader of the hunt, slightly irked by her praise to the vampire he hates, glanced at the head maid from his shoulders. "It would be wise for you to hold your tongue, or I’ll tear it from your gaping mouth." He threatened with unsmiling eyes.
The head maid, silenced by his threats, secretly glanced at Samantha and Lucy while hoping they had an idea on how to escape from here.
"I... I cannot eat with my hands tied, you will have to free me." Changing the subject, Samantha met his visible brown eyes, and she wriggled a bit, signifying the ropes were too tight for her to loosen. "I won’t run away from here if you have doubts about my intention, you can tie them back once I am done." She suggested before giving the hunter one of her sorrowful looks, she was lucky enough to have the expression of a complete weakling, it helped her sometimes, and when the hunter looked away as though he was becoming hesitantly affected, he rose from his chair and turned to leave, but he gave the orders to his henchman.
"Tie their hands to the front, the both of them."
"Yes boss." Nodding his head after his boss excused himself from the tent, the henchman did exactly as told and tied both ladies’ hands to the front. Although tied, it wasn’t going to stop them from eating, and before the henchman left, he gave them a warning glare before exiting the tent.
"What are we going to do?" Lucy whispered to Samantha who pressed her lips into a thin line. Frankly speaking the young maid couldn’t hide her annoyance, those hunters had taken her map and money! She still remembered the location in her head, but how will she transport herself without her coins? Those bastards!
"Eat up." Samantha responded to Lucy whose eyes widened at that suggestion. "Eat up, cause we’re gonna need the energy in order to escape tonight." Turning to the head maid who remained seated in a corner, Samantha beckoned her over with her head.
"You can join us, Miss Collette, I have a plan." She whispered, and the head maid, who was in on that plan, struggled to reach Samantha’s side so they could explain the plans they had in mind to her.
After finishing their meal, one of the henchmen returned to take the plates away. He seemed satisfied to see the three of them were asleep, and that only meant they wouldn’t encounter much trouble tonight with these women.
Stepping out after cross checking if they were fully asleep, the three maidens slowly opened their eyes when they sensed his presence leaving the room, and they quietly sat up after confirming he wasn’t going to return.
"What is your plan?" The head maid probed, looking more than ready to escape from this place before they had her head at dawn.
Samantha smiled to herself, and her eyes shook like she just remembered something. Taking her hands to her mouth, Samantha carefully used her teeth to loosen the tightness of the ropes. It took quite a lot of struggle before Samantha was able to undo the ropes from her hand. Being a slave and a Courtesan, there were certain times when they used ropes to tie her hand to her front as punishment, but she had figured out how to undo them with continuous practice, which made the workers at the Courtesan house and slave establishments switch into using handcuffs and chains.
"How did you...?" Lucy was bewildered when Samantha loosened the ropes tied around her legs, and after she was done, she proceeded to undo the ropes on Lucy’s wrist, whilst she did the same to the head maid who undid the ropes tied around her ankles of her leg.
Outside the tent, the three maidens could hear the muffled sounds of activities happening. They could hear the distant murmur of voices and the occasional clatter of metal, indicating the presence of others nearby. Samantha hushed everyone before crawling silently to the tents exit and stealing a tiny peek outside.
"Should I check on the maidens before retiring to bed for the night?" One of the hunters asked the leader who was busy sharpening his blade. He had stopped for a moment to stare at the parchment containing the slave establishment, and a certain one was marked. Was the green-eyed woman heading there?
"No need, they’re asleep. You must be tired, so you can head to bed for now. I’ll stay and watch in case we encounter trouble." The voice of the leader had turned concerned as he spoke to his fellow henchman, and Samantha couldn’t ignore the hint that these men might care for one another.
"No, the two of you can retire to bed, I am not sleepy at the moment, so allow me to stay and watch." Another henchman insisted, "tomorrow is going to be tough for everyone since we have to evacuate from here, you two can go ahead."
Watching them nod to one another in agreement, the young maid came to the conclusion that they have only tonight to escape from here.
Taking that into note, Samantha quietly moved back and glanced at Lucy who was still waiting for the signal. Without speaking, Samantha made hand gestures, indicating all the hunters were retiring back to their tents, and that only one of them would keep watch for the night.
"We need a distraction." She added.
Lucy and the head maid exchanged glances, and as if on cue, Lucy smiled and undid the strings of the top of her dress, revealing her cleavages. She loosened the bow that kept her hair in shape, making it drop past her shoulders. "Let’s hope he likes brown-skinned women."
