Bride To His Darkness
Chapter 253: Viney Can Talk!

Chapter 253: Viney Can Talk!

When dusk approached, Samantha returned to her chamber after another long, usually hectic day. Getting rid of the tight bodice and changing her dress into something more free and comfortable to move in, she sat on her plush mattress with ease, keeping her legs crossed as she pondered deeply on the matter Lucinda had told her about.

Should she bring it up with Ivan when he comes tonight? In all honesty, things like this were never deemed important in her village. When you get married, you live happily with your husband, become a housewife and have children, that was all she knew. The ceremonial pre-wedding ritual had been quite an advantage to her intellect, she had been educated on a lot of things, and her vocabularies were improving a lot too with the daily etiquette lessons.

She wondered what type of ceremonial ritual Ivan partakes in?

Still deep in thoughts, slender, vibrant, green tendrils slithered gracefully from the doorway, entering her room. They unfurled like emerald serpents, silently making their way across the walls towards the oblivious woman who picked on her nails.

When they snaked their way towards the surface of the bed to reach her side, they gently coiled around her leg, their touch as gentle as a lover’s caress, and the feeling of being wrapped by something nearly sent Samantha kicking her legs in the air out of panic, but after sighting the vibrant green vine that held on firmly, her heartbeat gradually returned to normal.

"You don’t sneak up on people like that, my heart was at the verge of escaping through my mouth." She admonished, her expression unchanged as she eyed the green vine who slowly released her leg. Taking a cobra stance, the vines stood, mystically coming together to form the same arm-sized vine that was big enough to wrap her entire body.

She knew the moment she felt the connection that it had to be her mischievous viney. From what she was seeing, it didn’t seem to be affected by the Autumn season that was approaching.

"Is it okay for you to stay out?" She asked viney whose tendrils coiled in response, although she had no idea what that gesture meant. Pressing her lips into a thin line to think, she suddenly asked,

"Can you make yourself smaller?" Her emerald eyes glinted.

With an almost playful flourish, the vine swiftly retracted all the way to the door, its tip curling into tight spirals as it vanished from sight. Samantha’s eyes followed it, and her first assumption was that it was going to hide away again, but in the next second, a small bouncy plant emerged from the corner of her door, where her viney had exited through.

Its vibrant shade of green and reddish hue sparkled under the twilight sun, reminding her of a pitcher plant drawing she had seen in a book. The plant, which looked small enough to fit into her palms, danced delightfully towards her bedside, its movement seemingly guided by a gentle breeze only it could perceive.

"Viney?" She uttered the plant’s name, her eyes growing bigger in wonder.

The plant’s vine, having shrunk in size, became its leg. Extending her hand, the plant jumped onto her palm, allowing her to lift it up. Samantha’s eyes gleamed with fascination, whilst she touched its delicate rim.

’That tickles master!’ the vine complained with a giggle, and Samantha immediately stopped, her ears twitching, as if she didn’t hear it right. The plant certainly had no mouth, no eyes, no nose, no ears, it looked like a regular plant, so where did the voice–

"Master has forgotten mind communication?" Asked the soft, youthful voice in her head, and it finally dawned on Samantha that the voice she heard came from her viney who rested on her palms.

’you can talk??’

’only master has the ability to hear me. Viney is pleased to be in the hands of master again.’ it bounced happily on her palm once more, like a cheerful puppy when it saw its owner arriving.

It was actually... cute!

’viney can listen to master’s thoughts too, thank you for the compliment.’

Samantha immediately regained herself from the shock, "all these time you could speak? And shrink?"

’only when Master says so. Viney can’t stand the seasons.’ it admitted, unfurling a leaf that was beginning to lose color. ’Master only summons Viney to shrink during the harsh seasons. That way, viney won’t die from the cold.’

"Whoa! I’m a master?" Samantha could not hide her fascination as she continued to study the little animated plant on her palm. Her giant viney was actually a small, cute plant! She watched as it wiggled its plump body to the side, as if trying to get a good view of her chamber, even though it had no eyes.

"Can you grow back to your actual size then?" She asked.

’only if master wants me to, but if I do that here I would bring down the Palace. Viney does not want to get into trouble due to Master’s off-the-wall command.’ Her magical plant added with folded vines, as if it was folding its arms. Its vines alone were struggling to fit into her room, talk more of its gigantic body.

Samantha arched an eyebrow at the plant creature, and watching its little gesturing movements that was similar to that of a human, would probably take her some time to get used to. However, this was exciting! Having a plant that could talk was something she would get excited for.

"What type of plant are you?" She asked out of mere curiosity, as she could not fathom which category of plants it belonged to, and Viney simply placed one of its vine to the upper part of its body.

’I’m a carnivore.’ It introduced, ’I’m a man-eating plant, Master.’

"W– what??" Samantha spooked, "you mean like the chompers?"

’Precisely, but I am of a different species. Master should know this.’ there was a sense of blatant attitude on its last phrase, and Samantha pursed her lips when it folded its vine again.

"It’s not everyday one speaks to plants. I’m not a genius, how can I possibly know your origin when you’re introducing yourself to me for the first time?"

’First time..?’

Samantha wasn’t sure of what she discerned from the voice transmitted into her head, but if she heard right, it sounded dazed, as if her question had thrown it off-guard. She isn’t wrong is she? This is their first time meeting like this, isn’t it?

"Viney?"

’Viney talks too much and spews nonsense most of the time.’ it suddenly said in a quick voice, ’we are meeting for the first time so Master is right, what do you want to know about me? I’ll answer anything you ask.’

"I think we have plenty of time to figure that out." Samantha extended her palm forward, and her bouncy plant hopped into her delicate palm. "I cannot wait to show you to Ivan."

’Viney prefers to lay low, Master. In this season, viney will need a daily drop of your blood to sustain fitness.’

"My blood?" Samantha hadn’t seen that one coming, "why do you need my blood?"

’and why do humans need food?’ it almost sighed at her cluelessness, ’Master’s blood will keep viney healthy from the harsh seasons, and Viney will be able to protect Master when other plants are too weak to do so. Your blood is essentially vital to nature.’

The plant explained, and that immediately reminded Samantha of the orb room, when her blood had accidentally touched the pedestal. The plant gazed at the woman who innocently appeared stunned by what she was hearing, and that only made the plant grow confused as it lifted a vine to scratch what could be known as its head.

Did she become completely clueless of the past after being reborn?
