Bride To His Darkness
Chapter 252: His Rightful Woman

Chapter 252: His Rightful Woman

—-

"How... How did you get hurt?" Carmela asked the demon King who weakly stumbled into her quarters that same night, her voice tinged with concern as she tried to go near him, but he lifted his hand forward, conveying she shouldn’t come anywhere close. She was practically preparing to head to bed when he unexpectedly came inside her chamber, and it was her first time seeing him like this.

"Your Majesty?"

Her worried eyes remained fixed on the demon King who finally stood straight, and in a swift motion, he took off his cloak, swinging it aside in fury, to Carmela’s bewilderment. The rage concealed in his obsidian black-eyes was let loose, and just thinking about the vampire that had the bloody audacity to use his claws on him, only added fuel to his ire. Carmela gasped in shock when her mirror broke from merely sensing his wrath, the glasses shattering to the floor, and if this continued, he was likely to bring the castle down.

"Carmela." He called the lady’s name, he had his back against her as he growled in a low, malevolent tone, whilst gritting his teeth. "My patience is becoming unbearably thin, Carmela. I want to end that good-for-nothing, psychotic vampire, and I want that to happen soon. I want to make him suffer!!! I ruined his entire family without having to reveal myself, and I am going to ruin him the same way! I will make his pain unbearable, he’d wish to commit suicide and join his woebegone family!!!" He snapped, conjuring an austere wind that sent most of the furniture falling to the ground– the sound of things shattering mixing with the eerie whistle of the wind.

"You mean the vampire King... he did this to you?" Carmela’s eyes widened, taking in the realization that the vampire might have seen him, but the demon man only let out a grunt before stepping out of her private chamber, leaving her question unanswered.

"Your Majesty! Wait!" Not having enough time to wear something decent, Carmela stepped out of her chamber in her nightgown. She went after His Majesty who took brisk steps away from her, prowling his way through the dim-lit corridor. Wherever he passed, the lights eerily went off, as though they could not bear the intensity of the wrath exuding the Demon.

Carmela continuously followed him, calling out to him so he would stop.

"Where are you going? Wait! Stop! MARIUS STOP!!!" Her demanding voice rang out sharply in the corridor, and the demon subconsciously halted at the piercing sound of her tiny voice, as if struck by an arrow. When he no longer moved, Carmela went to stand in front of him, and she could see the visible shock in his obsidian-black eyes as they narrowed at her in stupefaction.

It had been a long time since she called him by his name.

"Why are you suddenly acting out of your thoughts? Did you go to see that orb girl again?" She demanded, her hazel eyes unsmiling as she took in his speechlessness. "You went to see her again, didn’t you?" Her eyes were almost teary with disappointment, but then he shook his head, to her own stupefaction.

"No." He lied, "I didn’t go to see her."

"Then how did you meet the King?" Unconvinced, Carmela queried further, forgetting about his earlier warnings. She no longer cared about his threats, but the fact that he was married to her and she was his wife, she wouldn’t contain the disrespect of having him go to peek at some orb girl due to his long lost obsession for the green orb... while she stays here seeking for some warmth from a man who was too busy to give her that.

"Is there something I should know that you’re not telling me?" She asked further, the suspicious in her voice was evident, "you wanted the Orb, you said the Orb held powers that could bring GreenHollow to our knees, and I chose to believe it as you are the owner of that Orb, that is why I’m helping you retrieve it. In the end, the Orb was found, but we figured it had turned human due to the late King’s last wish. Everything seemed fine but after that night you saw her face, you’ve changed slightly and I want to know why. What is it you’re hiding from me?" The seriousness in her tone could not be misjudged, and the oppressive air hung thick around them.

Marius stared in silence as he noticed all forms of suspicion written all over features. Her Auburn-brown hair cascaded over her shoulders and back, contrasting with her white nightgown. Her hazel eyes appeared defensive as well as demanding, and rather than scaring her off, Marius simply pulled her into his arms, embracing her figure, whilst his voice, which was cold and had made him unapproachable, softened as he said,

"I’m not hiding anything, and I didn’t go to her for real this time." He assured Carmela, and to his relief, she didn’t pull away from his hug. "Both of them are presently separated as part of the wedding rites. If I had gone to her, running into that aloof vampire would be impossible as they are not allowed to see until the day of their wedding."

"How were you caught then?"

"I acted harshly with you earlier. I knew I was wrong, and I knew you were struggling to gather more humans to complete your ritual for the upcoming blood moon." He pulled back to look into her eyes, "you wanted that little boy, I had gone to get him for you but... I ended up entering a duo with the vampire King. I planned on using the crystal but... he had caught me."

Carmela looked deep into his eyes, as if searching for some truth in his words, and they bore no hesitancy at all. She could only see warmth in them, the same warmth she had been hoping to see he still had for her, and that eased her mind to some extent. Placing her hand on his torn shirt and gazing at the fair skin which had healed off his injury, the only testament to his wounds were the black blood which was smeared on her dainty fingers.

He got hurt trying to help her?

"You didn’t have to go there." Her voice instantly dropped to worry, "if you get caught, everything we’ve worked for up to this point will be in vain. But, I am deeply touched that you took such risks on my behalf. From your reaction, I assumed the human was some sort of past lover. The way you keep referring to her as your precious Jewel, I never liked it."

Her expression turned serious again, and Marius simply pulled the woman in for another hug, soothingly stroking the back of her head. "If she was my past lover, do you think I’d stand by and watch her marry someone else?" He inquired, but gave her no time to respond, "she’s nothing but a tool that can be used to our advantage, why would I stoop low to be with an Orb when I have you??"

Hearing this, a slight smile graced Carmela’s lips, and her hands went around him, returning his hug. Marius skillfully held back a sigh of relief, and he narrowly escaped having his true feelings exposed to this witch in his arms. Unknown to her vision, his eyes darkened into slits! No matter what, she can never know about his past relationship with that woman– his rightful woman!
