Bride To His Darkness
Chapter 135: The Wings Will Grow

Chapter 135: The Wings Will Grow

Reclining languidly against an ornate, uncomfortable stone slab that was embedded in the center of the cell, pale moonlights from a grated window casted a ghostly glow upon Ivan’s pale features, whilst he tried to prop himself into a comfortable position as he was still recovering from the effect of the pendant. When he tore through the buttons of his shirt, his eyes landed on the intricate red mark on his skin, it was a mark that served as his punishment for daring to become part Demon, even though he was just realizing the reason for his transformation recently.

Releasing a weary sigh, the young vampire Lord remained oddly calm, whilst he massaged the back of his neck as they felt strained, his eyebrows creasing in slight pain. After a few minutes of trying to recollect himself, his blood-red eyes drifted to the enchanted sigils that were carved delicately into the imposing cell door, and it emanated with a faint luminescence that was used to keep lethal monsters locked without any possibility of getting out.

Ivan never imagined finding himself locked in one as though he was the monster in their midst.

He felt proud.

Lowering his gaze to his hands, chains of pure silver, specially designed to subdue creatures, were clasped around his wrists and ankles. It rendered him powerless, nullifying his transformation and restricting any attempt at escape. He should have known better considering Draven’s attempt to use the net and subdue him, he had failed to predict this certain trap, but which one should he find more shocking? His little lamb being the orb, him being part Demon or Eamon’s sudden return from the dead?

Faint echoes of distant footsteps made Ivan’s senses stay alert regarding how many guards were patrolling this premises, but everything ceased when he sensed the presence of someone approaching his cell from the shadows. When the footsteps grew slightly louder, Eamon emerged from within the darkness like a demon incarnate, a contented smile playing on his lips as he eyed the situation Ivan was helplessly rendered in.

He came here with more hopes to find him in distress, but although that part of his need wasn’t satisfied, he was okay to finally see Ivan behind the cells that were meant to hold down the most dangerous creatures. He couldn’t forget the humiliation he had to face when he was trapped in the embodiments of a plant, and it was merely his own luck that he figured out how to escape from those ugly-looking verdure that wanted to eat him alive.

"How do you like your new home?" Composing himself, he asked Ivan who shifted to the side on the stone slab, and to Eamon’s dismay, the vampire Lord seemed to ponder deeply on his question before answering.

"Let’s see... I’m not dead yet, well it is manageable to say the least." He relaxed his body against the slab, and since he had torn the buttons of his shirt, the red intricate mark that was yet to fade from his exposed chest, caught Eamon’s crimson eyes, and a look of fascination danced in his pupils to see that the shard of orb he had buried in Ivan’s chest, actually possessed the effect of a Demon.

He knew the orb changing color would turn out to be dangerous, fatal, and when Ivan went into that coma, he believed there was no chance a human would survive the effect of a piercing shard in their heart. However, his mindset changed when one night, the royal physician announced his awakening to the family. Was he disappointed? Yes, he was. But in truth, he was merely using Ivan as a test subject to see if the shard of an orb was as powerful as legends claimed it would be..... He couldn’t test it on himself, so he decided to use Ivan, and now that he knew where Ivan got most of his strength from, he was going to find the orb himself so he can be just as strong.

"The court of public opinion will be held three days from now." He raised three of his fingers in the air for Ivan to see before dropping them down. "You once stated that I have so much to lose, which of course is not a lie, but did you really think I care that much for my Mother and sister? Forget them, did you really think I’d give a damn if they happened to die in front of me?" He whispered, a cold smirk curving his lips, to Ivan’s disgust. "I do care about them, but I can also kill them with my bare hands if it means I get to take the throne and have the power to rule... my Mother was starting to become annoying anyway, keeping me under her wrap. I would have killed her myself if you hadn’t intervened."

"And the devil speaks." Ivan’s lips twitched in rancor at Eamon’s confession. He hated Carina and her daughter, so much he didn’t care about if they ended up dying in anyone’s hands, but then, he also knew how much they both loved Eamon to the point they were willing to do anything, just so he could sit on the throne. If they were still alive to listen to his acrimony, he couldn’t help but wonder how they’d feel. Now that he pondered on it, he was starting to regret letting his little lamb feed them off to the plants when he could have emotionally damaged them before feeding them to the plants.

"Do you intend to kill Hadrian and Emeric?" Ivan questioned with a tilt of his head. "If you eventually take the throne, I’m not going to be the only threat you face even if you decide to get rid of me." A sinister smile adorned Ivan’s lips, enhancing his features, "they say keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Hadrian and Emeric follow you around like possessed dolls, they never leave your side... don’t be surprised if you find them hatching plans to end you, even as we speak."

"Nonsense!" Eamon glared directly at Ivan who tsked with a disappointed shake of his head, and he said, "I thought you weren’t this naive? Grow up Eamon! People change, and your brothers? I bet they aren’t the same little squirrels you once bossed around the Palace whenever you felt like it. The wings will grow, Eamon."

"It appears I made a terrible mistake coming here." Eamon concluded, nodding his head slightly as though he had figured Ivan’s cunning plan. "You’re trying to poison my mind against my brothers, aren’t you? Well unfortunately for you, they won’t dare to cross that line with me, and although I do not intend to burst your bubbles, if I eventually find out that those two are up to no good, I will kill them. Without hesitation."

Saying this with a finality in his tone, Eamon turned around to leave, and the guards, who waited for him at the main entrance followed him out. Once they were out of sight, Herbert, who posed as a guard incharge of Ivan’s prison cell, finally shifted from his position when Eamon exited the place. Confirming the coast was clear, Herbert masterfully made his way to Ivan’s cell, and a look of relief displayed in his eyes to see his Lordship wasn’t critically harmed. There was only one error though, and it was the painful mark his eyes had inadvertently landed on.

"My Lordship."

"I had a feeling you’d be here." Ivan, who wasn’t the least surprised by Herbert’s presence, smiled in appreciation before pulling himself up to sit straight, the chains in his wrist clunking at his every move. "I need you to do something for me."

"I’m forever at your command, My Lordship."

"First of all I need a book." He said to Herbert who blinked in bafflement, "check my wardrobe, you’ll find a book there, It’s more of a novel, I need you to bring it for me."

"Forgive me but if I may ask, why do you need a book?" Herbert, who assumed his Lordship would be looking for ways to escape this cell that did not fit him, was stunned to actually find him relaxed. His Lordship only acts this way when he has something deceitful in mind.

"Why would anyone need a book?" Ivan arched an eyebrow at Herbert who still remained lost, and he frowned.

"It’s boring here, I need to keep myself busy." He blatantly said before shifting his attention to the main door. "Go, get the book that I’ve asked for. When you return, we can talk more on why you’re here."
