Chapter 71: 069 Calm your nerves
When Atlas Hallow saw those images in the monitoring room, he thought that once the elevator was fixed and she came out, he would give her a harsh scolding to set her straight. Really, such an ungrateful woman. But when he truly held her in his arms, he realized he just couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Recalling her paper-white face and frightened look, his heart twinged. He silently vowed in his heart that if Charlotte Miller were in danger again, the one by her side would definitely be him, not any other man.
He couldn’t allow any man the chance to approach Charlotte Miller. No man would do. It wasn’t just him who noticed Charlotte’s charm; even Jack Smith’s gaze was already inappropriate.
When that little star reached out to hug Charlotte just now, it wasn’t because Charlotte was scared; it was because of Jack Smith’s lack of restraint.
"I can walk by myself." Once the elevator malfunctioned, it indeed stirred up some little trouble. With so many people having just watched, it truly would be hard to explain in the future. Everyone thought she seduced the CEO with her charms, and Atlas Hallow’s actions this time only solidified that suspicion.
But Atlas just wanted to hold her like this, as if declaring his sovereignty to everyone.
This embrace let not only Jack Smith but also all the unmarried males in the company know about his relationship with Charlotte. What he wanted was to eradicate all these little thoughts in people’s minds.
Until they entered his office, laying her gently on the sofa was truly effortless; the girl was as light as a feather in his arms.
Her little face was still snow-white, even her rosy lips had turned a faint watery color. Atlas Hallow reached out to hold her small, cold hands, making his heart ache.
He was beginning to like this little girl.
From the moment he saw her at the marriage registration office, he started to like her a little, just unconsciously. All those bad emotions came from uncertainty. He was unsure if this little girl he liked also liked him.
How difficult it is to like someone is just how simple it can be.
Atlas Hallow once thought that he would never fall in love with any woman in his lifetime because he didn’t believe in the existence of love in this world.
But ever since Charlotte Miller appeared, this stubborn belief was gradually changing, even to his own surprise.
He liked her beside him, and he disliked other men being around her.
He couldn’t allow her to be distracted, couldn’t allow her to think of various ways to escape the binds of the Hallow Family. All this made it clear to him that his belief of never falling in love was starting to waver. Charlotte was slowly entering his world.
As for Hailey Hill, perhaps all his feelings came from guilt. That was a brief confusion in his youth, and he knew clearly that it wasn’t liking, let alone love.
He really owed Hailey Hill, but shouldn’t Charlotte Miller have to bear all this, right?
Pouring a cup of hot tea, he placed it into Charlotte’s hands. Through the cup, the warmth gradually seeped into her palms. Charlotte took a small sip, and the warm red tea slowly slid into her stomach, making her whole body relax: "I’m sorry, I just wanted to discuss the investment matters with Jack Smith. I didn’t expect the elevator to malfunction."
Atlas Hallow wrapped his arms around Charlotte, pulling her into his embrace, whispering: "From now on, you don’t need to worry about these matters. I’ll have Daniel Parker keep an eye on them. Don’t meet with Jack Smith again, okay?"
As a man himself, Atlas Hallow could clearly see the unconscious look in Jack Smith’s eyes. No matter what kind of man, whether directly or indirectly, their final goal of liking a woman is to have her.
Jack Smith would be no exception.
"What are you thinking? He’s the person my sister likes. Even if Jack Smith had no relationship with Luna Miller, I wouldn’t do anything. I’m not some tramp." Charlotte felt slightly unpleasant hearing Atlas Hallow’s words, as if implying she was good at flirting. In fact, she was always very mindful of her conduct.
"I know you’re not, otherwise I would’ve broken your legs long ago." Atlas Hallow lowered his head, his sexy thin lips gently touching Charlotte’s face, seeming both like a warning and a reward.
She had actively pushed away Jack Smith’s hug, which greatly pleased Atlas Hallow. That small joy and satisfaction was as delightful as a blossoming flower in his heart.
Charlotte was just frightened by the elevator incident, and then somewhat unsettled by Atlas Hallow’s peculiar actions. She could only lean against his chest, drinking red tea to calm her nerves...
"I won’t have anything with Jack Smith. Can I handle this matter myself?" Charlotte said softly. There’s no benefit in confronting this man head-on.
"What are you worried about? Afraid that if something goes wrong with the fifty million, you’d have even more ties?" Atlas Hallow’s breath carried a hint of danger. He didn’t like her drawing such a clear line with him, as if they were on two opposing sides.
