Chapter 51: 049 Sisters at Odds
"Could it be that he has feelings for you?" Luna Miller almost scoffed at this remark; in terms of figure, she was much better than Charlotte Miller, wasn’t she? Could Atlas Hallow possibly be ignoring her and showing interest in Charlotte?
Besides, even if Charlotte was prettier, a man’s reaction to a woman is instinctive. How could he not react to her?
"Whether he has feelings for me or not is not something you should be concerned with. I came back today to tell you something: the money was borrowed from the Hallow Clan, and I’m responsible for ensuring its security. You must provide me with the investment prospectus from the production company, and I will supervise every cent spent." The soup in the brass pot of the hot pot started boiling, the rising steam obscuring Charlotte’s facial expression.
Suddenly, the noise of a bowl hitting the table startled everyone.
Luna Miller instantly lost her appetite for dinner, standing up angrily: "Charlotte, what is this? I just borrowed fifty million from Atlas Hallow, and if he’s not worried, why should you be? Your husband has so much money that the banks can’t hold it all; if he wants to be generous, that’s his choice. What exactly do you want?"
Charlotte immediately understood most of it from that sentence. Luna thought Atlas Hallow had plenty of money, and by taking this sum, she might not even want to repay it. Perhaps she wouldn’t invest it in the film at all, but was simply finding a way to get money from Atlas?
Looking at the beautiful woman before her, she seemed no longer like the sister she grew up with, but a stranger chilling to the heart.
"Luna, how could you borrow money from Atlas Hallow without discussing it with me?" Charles Miller was stunned; he never expected his eldest daughter would go to Atlas Hallow for money. What was that about?
It was quite incredible, and the sum she borrowed was as large as fifty million?
"Dad, why should I discuss such matters with you? This is my business, and I can decide on my own. You’ve always favored Charlotte since we were young, even knowing dangers and tricks lurked in marrying Atlas Hallow. If anyone should be chosen first, it was me. Now that Charlotte is married, you feel even guiltier toward her, don’t you?" Each word from Luna made people feel a heavy blockage in their hearts.
"Luna, we couldn’t have been biased, given how urgent the situation was back then..." Freya Morgon’s voice faltered midway, her eyes reddened, and tears welled up, swirling in her eyes. She hadn’t realized Luna harbored such resentment?
"Then don’t interfere with this matter now. This is money I borrowed from Atlas Hallow; it has nothing to do with you." Luna crossed her arms, her eyes glancing at Charlotte. Since when had this usually quiet sister started asking for investment plans, affiliate documents, financial statements? What was she aiming to do?
"Without the Miller and Hallow families’ alliance, how could you have borrowed this money? Sister, I mean no harm. Investment is incredibly complex, like a black hole. I wish to prevent you from being deceived." Charlotte saw her parents anxious and angry, and tried to patiently clarify things with Luna.
"You mean no harm, but you’re brimming with superiority now, aren’t you? Why else would you say that without the Miller and Hallow families’ alliance? Why not directly say that it’s because you married Atlas Hallow? Should I thank you for saving face out of sisterly love?" Luna’s temperament was always like this; she wouldn’t leave room for others. Perhaps the smooth-sailing years had left her speaking brusquely.
"Shut up, Luna! How can you speak like that?" Charles Miller couldn’t listen any longer, slammed the table, stood up with a dizzying surge in the head, almost infuriated by this eldest daughter.
"Then I’ll stop talking. The money I borrowed from Atlas Hallow comes with terms he should discuss with me; it’s not Charlotte’s place to meddle. If you dislike it, make him refuse lending to me." Luna let out a cold laugh, glared fiercely at Charlotte, then quickly turned and stormed upstairs.
Charlotte sat there, the soup in her bowl already cold, with a thin layer of white oil blooming over it, making her lose all appetite.
"Dad, don’t worry, I’ll find another solution." Charlotte not only worried about Luna, but this money, if not secure and problems arose, would certainly be repaid by the Miller Family. The situation of the family company was already dire, unable to absorb another debt.
Would she find another solution? Charles Miller gazed across at his younger daughter, realizing she almost seemed like a different person, her clear youthful face showing a complexity he couldn’t understand.
