Chapter 148: 105 Jackals of the same hill_6

"Thank you in advance." Annie couldn’t help but recall a saying: when you’re tired of playing, find an honest man to marry. Perhaps this James Williams was the best honest man, but what have honest men ever done wrong? And what wrong has she done?

What she encountered was a perfect devil...

"Secretary Gray, in a good mood, huh? Boyfriend? Lover? Or someone else?" Joseph Shaw had spotted Annie from afar, sitting there with her chin in her hand and smiling brightly, her brown eyes almost sparkling like diamonds. So she could smile, after all? It seemed like the serious demeanor she showed was just for his sake.

"President Shaw, this is my friend." How did they run into Joseph Shaw here? He never dined at such restaurants, so how did he just appear like that? Annie tried to convince herself that she owed him nothing now, but she still felt a bit uneasy, not knowing what he might say next.

"Friend? Then mind if I join you for dinner?" While Joseph Shaw asked if it was okay to join, he’d already taken a seat beside Annie.

"Perhaps it’s not convenient." Annie smiled slightly and said softly.

She must learn to refuse.

"What’s inconvenient? We’re so familiar with each other." He picked up the cup of green tea on the table and took a sip. He had rushed over and was parched.

Charlotte Miller curiously glanced over, "Joseph Shaw is here, Atlas Hallow, do you want to go say hi?" But something seemed a little off; the atmosphere was tense. Even though the restaurant music was soft and the heating was just right, the atmosphere in that direction felt tight.

"This is Mr. Joseph Shaw, the president of the company I previously worked for." Annie still wore a smile on her face, but her body was not as relaxed and soft as before.

Joseph Shaw tapped his long fingers on the table, looking grim, "Previously? Who permitted you to resign?"

Just hearing the word "previously" made him even more enraged. What was she guilty about? If she wanted to leave, couldn’t she confront him directly? Afraid he’d make things difficult for her?

But indeed, he would really make things difficult for her.

Thinking this, Joseph Shaw smirked proudly; she’d been caught by him, and this time he wanted to see how she planned to deal with this troublesome woman.

Since she left, nothing others did was satisfactory—the tie wasn’t tied properly, the tea temperature was wrong, the ordered meals weren’t to his taste, the organized files were not liked, and he hadn’t been with a woman in quite some time, leaving him increasingly irritable.

All this thanks to her, and running off deserved death. Where did she get the nerve to think she could fool him like this and then swagger in here with a man?

"Annie, then I’ll be off. You have a good chat with Mr. Shaw; we can meet again tomorrow for tea." James Williams smiled, seeming like a gentle spring breeze in Annie’s eyes. He was really considerate, knowing staying would embarrass her, seeing Joseph Shaw wouldn’t leave, so he decided to speak first.

"If anything comes up, you can call me." After saying this, he stood up ready to leave.

"Nothing will come up; I’m quite familiar with her. How familiar you might not even comprehend." Joseph Shaw smiled wickedly, not realizing anything inappropriate about what he’d said.

He didn’t notice Annie’s face turn pale as a sheet, almost swaying...

"Get away." Charlotte Miller forcefully pulled on Joseph Shaw’s arm. He hadn’t reacted to the sudden rush from the woman, instinctively trying to shrug her off, but his wrist was tightly gripped, surprisingly strong.

The situation suddenly became lively.

Atlas Hallow looked at Charlotte, "Are you okay?" Just a bit more and she might have been thrown off; Joseph Shaw was quite skilled, and throwing off Charlotte’s small frame would have been easy.

Stepping back, leaning onto Atlas, Charlotte shook her head, indicating she was fine, but feeling Annie was troubled.

She’d heard those words; how could a man be so shameless as to discuss a woman with such words in a public place?

Compared to Joseph Shaw, it seemed Atlas Hallow has more manners, right?

"Miss Gray, come sit with me; I see you haven’t eaten." After saying this, Charlotte disdainfully glanced at Joseph Shaw. Previously, she thought he’d exploit labor; now, she felt his character was questionable.
