Chapter 118: 100 The Most Chaotic Day_5
She picked up the phone, glanced at it and felt a tremor in her heart; it was Atlas Hallow calling.
"Charlotte, where are you? What are you doing, not answering the phone for so long?" Atlas’s tone seemed a bit anxious, a bit questioning, and somewhat irritable.
Where did she go? This man was really funny, she hadn’t even asked him what he had been doing all day, yet he was the first to lash out.
"I’m at your apartment, went back to the Miller Family today, spent the whole day with my mom, I missed your call because I was taking a shower, do you need me to video call you?" Charlotte dared, but she guessed Atlas wouldn’t dare.
Sure enough...
"No need. Something came up tonight, I won’t be coming home. You should get some rest early." Atlas stood at the end of the corridor outside the ward, the dark sky reflected in his eyes, devoid of any light.
"Is it something urgent?" Charlotte hesitated for a moment and still asked, she wanted to know if Atlas would tell her where he was, what he was doing.
"Yes, a bit tricky, don’t wait up, go to sleep." It was indeed tricky because, perhaps due to the wound or because Hailey Hill’s constitution was so weak, she started to have a fever, getting so confused that she cried for half a day while holding his hand. He promised to be with her tonight, and while the carers were cleaning her body, he stepped out to make this call.
He’s been restless all day, feeling that if he didn’t call her, he wouldn’t know where she was, what she was doing, and wouldn’t be at ease.
But now, even after talking to her, he’s still not at peace.
Does he wish he could turn her into a little thing and put it in his pocket? So he can carry her around, just reach into his pocket and he could touch, feel...
"Then goodnight." Charlotte’s eyes felt dry, she couldn’t bring herself to ask him where he was, what he was doing, if he was with another woman, because pride prevented her from ever questioning like a complaining wife.
Her sweet voice with a hint of fatigue was no longer present in the airwaves, after hanging up the phone, there was a long buzzing sound, her gaze began to darken.
Suddenly felt very tired, the fatigue wasn’t physical but from deep within the soul.
Charlotte didn’t even have the energy to change out of her sleepwear, the bedroom was heated, she took off the bathrobe and dove into the bed, even the warm flow of air made her uncomfortable, she just curled up in the blanket where even her tears had dried up.
There had been too many things all day, almost beyond what she could handle.
Luna Miller should be held criminally responsible, shouldn’t she? After all, she drove in the wrong direction, causing such a big accident. The driver had been rescued but was in the ICU, this week is a critical period, what if he dies?
What kind of woman is Atlas Hallow accompanying who won’t return home? It’s likely that Hailey Hill, the one who can freely enter his office, can demand him not to come home and stay with her all night. What kind of past do they have together?
It felt like there was a heavy stone weighing down her chest, even breathing was somewhat difficult.
Charlotte always knew that tears wouldn’t solve anything in this world, she could only rest well because there are still many things waiting for her tomorrow, and she was the only one who could handle them now.
The sky gradually lightened, the thick velvet curtains blocked out all external light, perhaps too fatigued, Charlotte slept deeply, unaware when someone opened the door from outside.
Atlas Hallow pushed open the bedroom door and already smelled the faint rose fragrance in her breath, such a sweet and alluring scent made the smell of disinfectant and plasma from the hospital on him seem immensely disgusting.
Standing in the living room, he took off his clothes, socks, shoes, removed his watch, then walked barefoot into the bedroom.
Entered the bathroom as if wanting to wash off all the hospital smells, the shower opened to the fullest, water streams flowed over him, until he felt no smell at all, then grabbed a towel to wipe his body, lifted the blanket and lay next to Charlotte.
Is that a habit? But having lived together for some time, it had never been noticed before.
Is it that when he’s around, she wears conservative sleepwear, but when he’s not, she liberates her nature?
"You’re back?" As soon as he touched her, Charlotte awoke.
Usually, she would wake up early, perhaps yesterday was a bit too tiring, that’s why she slept so deeply.
"You didn’t sleep all night?" Charlotte’s voice was lazy and relaxed, but her body tensed, with a touch of resistance.
"Not possible this morning, I have urgent matters to attend, Luna’s facing trouble, my mom asked me to handle it." Charlotte turned over wanting to get up, but Atlas didn’t want to let her go, he just came back and she wanted to leave, he disliked such brief meetings, after all, they were newlyweds, why couldn’t he find that clingy feeling with her?
"What is it? I will have Daniel Parker deal with it for you." Atlas’s gaze fell on her, having not seen her all day seemed hard to endure.
"It’s a woman’s matter, I must handle it, and you didn’t sleep all night, rest well." Charlotte knew there was no use confronting him directly, nor would it yield any result, so even if her heart felt uncomfortable, she could only bear with it. After all, if he really had anything with Hailey Hill, as long as she had evidence in hand, leaving wouldn’t be too difficult.
