Bound To The Ice Dragon King
Chapter 46: The night run

Chapter 46: The night run

Rhea felt a whirlwind of emotions after the indirect kiss she had exchanged with Draven. But just as she was lost in her thoughts, the other shadow stalkers who had departed earlier began to make their way back. Gradually, they started encircling the pond once more.

Rhea continued to gaze at Draven with wide eyes, but he wasn’t interested in trying to understand what she was thinking. He shifted his gaze to the water’s surface, his eyes filled with coldness. However, his expression turned into a frown when he noticed the creatures lurking above, their menacing eyes locked onto the pond.

Draven’s face grew darker. The shadow stalkers had returned due to Rhea’s act of killing one of them; the scent of their partner could not escape their extraordinarily acute sense of smell.

Draven slightly shook Rhea back to the present, "Listen, you can now go up to breathe if you still want to." Those words echoed in her mind, but when she glanced up, her face blanched.

Hell and damnation...was this dragon planning to use her as a bait to escape?! Rhea frowned, with all her strength, she pulled at Draven’s collar.

Draven’s eyebrows twitched as he also remembered that she’d threatened to give him out as an exchange for her life earlier.

Was she planning to give him out?!

Draven didn’t get a chance to speak, before she cut in, "Relax, grandpa. Don’t be scared, I’m not planning to get you in trouble."

Grandpa?!

Draven didn’t find it funny at all, his expression chilled up, "Who the hell are you calling grandpa?"

Rhea’s mouth pulled into a grin, revealing her front bunny teeth. She was really enjoying the look on his face, if only they weren’t in trouble, she’d have teased him even more. But now wasn’t the right time, they had to face the problem at hand.

She then said, "Normally, I’m not a heartless person, but when I’m backed into a corner, I’m terrifying. Even to those bony headed creatures up there."

Rhea did not have any intentions of eliminating any of those creatures, but she found herself in a situation where she had no other option. The only options she had were to kill them or be killed by them. Unfortunately, the shadow stalkers had the upper hand in terms of their numbers. Moreover, she was unsure of how to utilize the dragon core to her benefit. In fact, the core appeared to be inhibiting her ability to control flames. Relying solely on her spikes would not be enough to combat them. However, if she were to utilize the ice sword, it would work to her advantage.

"Get ready, we will leave the pond. We have to fight our way out." She held on to Draven.

Draven’s hands, which had been free-floating in the water, automatically wrapped around Rhea’s body.

When was the last time he had held someone like this? Draven thought.

Even in the past, when he was still with Alina, she hardly ever allowed him to touch her. Back then, he’d thought that Alina didn’t like any physical contact. She was like a distant moon to everyone in his realm, because she claimed she didn’t want to hurt them with her heated body temperature.

Naturally, she shouldn’t be touched by the ice creatures, as she was a fire controller. Draven had respected her decision to keep a distance, and always kept his hands to himself.

Nevertheless, the sole occasion when Alina had embraced and willingly kissed him on his bed occurred the day before their wedding. She had consistently reminded him, "Prepare yourself for tomorrow, as it will mark the beginning of a life you never anticipated." During that moment, his heart was overwhelmed with love, causing him to not question the meaning of her words, especially as she peacefully slumbered in his embrace after a prolonged period. At that point in time, he was overjoyed and eagerly anticipating their wedding day.

That day marked the first instance of him holding someone in such a manner while he slept. However, it resembled an affectionate embrace filled with love, but in reality, Alina radiated intense heat in his arms, contrasting his own temperature, but due to his deep affection for her, he believed there was ample time to adjust to her temperature. Yet...

His burning passion from the beginning had only been the cause of his ruin, nothing more.

"How will I use the core’s power to get out of this pond?" Rhea’s voice snapped Draven out of his thoughts, he then subconsciously tightened his hold around her body.

So cold. He thought. Rhea’s body was too cold, it froze him up from the inside. While holding tightly to each other, Draven instructed her on how to use the core’s powers.

Under his instructions, Rhea used the powers to her advantage, making the both of them shoot out of the pond like an arrow released from a bow. They burgled off the pond and broke the water surface. Icy air streamed out of Rhea like smoke, as they both spun around in a circle. The ice spikes unleashing from her body knocked down the approaching shadow stalkers.

The shadow stalkers wailed out in pain as the sharp ice spikes pierced through their thick skins. With Draven’s earlier instructions, Rhea swiftly summoned the ice sword again. She let go of Draven and began to cut down the creatures on their way, but suddenly a metal hook was flung into the sky, it snagged onto her neck, and forcefully pulled her down.

Rhea was pulled to the hard ground with force, to the extent she saw red stars when her head hit the ground.

Draven, who was on the other side noticed the creatures were starting to pull Rhea with the metal hook and hurriedly yelled, "Cut off your neck immediately!"

Rhea’s eyes widened in astonishment. Cut off her neck?! Was this dragon crazy or was he high on water?

"What the freaking hell, dragon, what sort of a rotten suggestion is that?" She managed to choke out, before summoning the ice sword again. She tried to cut off the metal rope, but the hook had already embedded itself into her neck and couldn’t be removed.

Rhea coughed out blood. At that moment, she didn’t even have the strength to cry out in pain as she was being dragged by the metal. All her focus was on pulling out the hook from her neck.

However, the creatures seemed too eager to get rid of her. From the other side, another metal blade hook was flung out, but this time, it was aiming directly for her head.

Draven’s blue eyes narrowed as he saw the metal hook being flung towards Rhea’s head. He had no weapon in hand to stop it, but his eyes fell on the ice sword on the ground. Without hesitation, he reached for the sword and swiftly swung it towards the shadow stalker holding the hook.

The creature staggered backwards, before falling down and rolling on the ground in pain. The constantly approaching iron hook finally disappeared.

Draven urged Rhea, "Get up, we have to go!" Saying that, he didn’t wait to help her stand up and began to run ahead of her.

Rhea, who was still on the ground was stunned. Wasn’t he supposed to help her up first? She couldn’t open her mouth to speak because of the hook around her neck. She only spat out a mouth full of blood when she tried to speak.

The shadow stalkers were already surrounding their leader, who Draven had struck with the ice sword. They were making strange loud noises to communicate with each other.

Their noise filled the entire quiet night, making more birds flock out of the trees.

Rhea gritted her teeth in anger as she managed to get up on her feet with the hook still around her neck. Without wasting time, she hurriedly started to run towards Draven.

The whistling night breeze blew her hair into disarray. She was extremely angry and in pain. If she hadn’t met this dragon or had his core, death wouldn’t be knocking on her door everyday.

Even though Draven would be experiencing her pain, it wouldn’t be as much as she was feeling it. Her neck felt like it would rip of at any moment.

The pair sprinted through the dense forest, Rhea’s breaths heavy and her heart pounding.

They continued to run, blindly maneuvering their way through the thick trees. Suddenly, Draven spoted a cliff up ahead and came to a sudden halt just in time.

Rhea, however, didn’t stop on time and crashed into Draven’s solid back, losing her balance. They both stumbled towards the edge of the cliff. They teetered on the edge for a brief moment before gravity took over, and they tumble over the side, their screams echoing through the night.
