Chapter 121: Unexpected question

Rhea supported Draven’s entire weight by hugging him to her body, she let out a deep sigh, now that he had passed out, she had no idea where his new room was. Furthermore, it was already late at night. After considering her options for a while, she made the decision to bring him to her own room instead.

Rhea slipped her right arm around his waist and supported his left arm with her neck, with so much difficulties, she dragged him to her room. Once there, she gently placed him on the bed, lying face up. He appeared almost lifeless, unmoving despite the impact of his fall onto the mattress. Letting out another sigh, she stooped down to remove his shoes and carefully moved his long legs properly on the bed, covering his body with a blanket.

Following this, she sat on the edge of the bed and admired his peaceful face. Her gaze focused on his closed eyelids, where his thick lashes still glistened from the tears he had shed earlier. She couldn’t help but ponder what had caused someone as cold-hearted as Draven to shed tears, and not to mention, kiss her.

Unconsciously, Rhea raised her hand and traced her lips, still able to feel the lingering sensation of Draven’s mouth on hers. Recollecting how he had kissed and held her only caused warmth to spread across her cheeks. In the past, she would have been disgusted with herself for allowing him to kiss her in such a manner, but for some reason, she found herself enjoying it and regretting pushing him away to end the kiss...

What was wrong with her? Wasn’t she supposed to hate him for taking advantage of her in his intoxicated state? Then why the hell was she feeling disappointed that the kiss ended so fast? Why the hell did she want to experience more than a kiss?

Hell be damned, she was probably starting to lose her senses! This wasn’t her doing. It couldn’t be her. Rhea cursed herself internally as she continued to stare at Draven’s face, and when her eyes fell on his lips again, she felt her face heated up.

Rhea decided to clear her mind off the kiss and tried to focus on something else. Something like why was Draven apologizing to her earlier? He’d said he wasn’t apologizing because of kissing her, then what was the reason?

What did he do or was about to do that would need apologies? Or was he just saying nonsense because he’d drank too much?

Rhea sighed as she couldn’t figure out anything else, she then murmured, "I hope you’re not planning to do something that would make me hate you in the future." Saying this, she let out a tired yawn and laid down beside Draven on the bed, making sure there was enough space between them as the bed was so huge. She continued to stare at his peaceful sleeping face until she also fell into deep slumber.

The next time Rhea opened her eyes, it was already morning. As the morning light gently filtered through the curtains, her gaze instinctively drifted towards the window, where delicate snowflakes continued their graceful descend from the sky. Such beautiful sight was still foreign to her.

Yet, just as she was about to lose herself in the mesmerizing sight, a sudden, intense gaze pierced through her thoughts from behind. A shiver ran down her spine, as she turned her head, her heart racing, to find Draven staring at her with his piercing blue eyes. Time seemed to stand still as their eyes locked in a silent exchange.

In that fleeting moment, the world outside ceased to exist, and all that mattered was the sight of this handsome man before her. She could feel the intensity of his gaze, as if he were searching for something deep within her soul.

Quickly, she broke the spell, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she remembered the kiss they had shared the previous night. She couldn’t deny the way her heart had fluttered, the way her body had responded to his touch. And now, just his gaze was enough to mess up her thoughts.

To regain her composure, she sat up abruptly, her gaze now averted. She could feel the weight of his gaze still lingering on her, a tangible force that sent her nerves into a frenzy. Though her cheeks were still flushed, she mustered the courage to meet his gaze once more. But this time, he’d looked away from her.

Rhea decided not to ever bring up the matter of the kiss as she was sure he probably didn’t have the memories of it happening. Thus, she planned to play it cool. She cleared her throat and asked, "What was the nature of your conversation with the prince yesterday? You two spoke for quite a while and you returned all messed up." Taking a moment, she continued, "Did he say something that offended you?" She turned towards Draven, but he simply shook his head and replied, "No, he did not."

Rhea was about to ask further about the prince’s words, but Draven interjected, "Zack was one of the people injured during the wedding decades ago. Yesterday, he shared with me how Alina’s spell had harmed his dragon." After a brief pause, he confessed, "I felt remorseful and ended up consuming alcohol excessively." He chose not to disclose to Rhea the details of his conversation with Zack, which involved using her to his advantage and eventually disposing of her in the future. This was the primary reason for his excessive drinking. But he decided to keep that to himself until the day...

Rhea, however, felt sorry for Draven. It was no surprise that he returned drunk; he must have blamed himself once again. Alina had caused so much pain to many people, but Draven was the one who suffered the most. Rhea had the urge to console him, but she decided against it. Instead, she cleared her throat and said,

"I will go fetch the maids to prepare your bath. You will feel much better after a shower." With that, she climbed down from the bed and began walking towards the door. However, she stopped when she heard Draven’s deep, husky morning voice call out, "Rheanna." The sound of her full name from his mouth unexpectedly sent shivers down her spine.

When she turned to look at him, he was already sitting at the edge of the bed, his back facing her. She couldn’t see his expression, but she heard his unexpected words.

"Rheanna, sometimes I wonder if you were the one I met a century ago. If the woman I loved back then was you and not Alina, what would have happened? Would we still be happily married with children by now, or would it have come to a woeful end? Just like it did with Alina." he asked softly.

What did he mean by those words? What was he trying to imply? Rhea couldn’t understand, so she didn’t attach much meaning to it. She waved her hand dismissively and said, "It’s impossible for us to have met back then. I wasn’t even born a century ago, and neither were my parents. I don’t have an answer to that question." With that, she hurriedly left the room.

Draven’s lips curved into a smile, "Always pretending to be dumb. I’d have really loved to hear your reply on this question..." He muttered softly as he subconsciously pressed a hand to his lips, his expression unexpectedly softened as a small smile graced his lips.
