Chapter 120: Kissing under the moonlight (part 2)

Rhea stayed quiet for awhile, she didn’t actually know what to say to Gail in a situation like this. After awhile, she hesitatingly spoke. "Although I believe that when love is involved, one has no control over their emotions and thoughts. I will not advise you to stop loving this person, but then I will also not advise you to go and meet him again. In this current state where there’s an impending war, the human realm isn’t safe for you, nor is the dragon realm safe for your lover."

Gail’s eyes slightly dimmed, she then murmured, "But I miss him, it’s been awhile since I received his letter, I just want to go and see if he’s alright."

After finishing the last bite of fruit in her hand, Rhea gently placed her hand on Gail’s shoulder. "Even though you love him, you still need to endure. It’s not worth risking your life for love. Remember, you have to be alive in order to love. Take my advice and never step into the human realm again."

Rhea had already satisfied her hunger and had managed to have a conversation with someone she initially found rude. It was time for her to return to her room. "I must take my leave now. I hope you don’t let your emotions overpower you." With that, she quickly descended from the tree and gathered her detached dress train on the ground.

Rhea hummed to herself as she walked in the quiet grounds of the palace, as she walked through the snow-covered grounds of the courtyard, her footsteps muffled by the thick blanket of white. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the surroundings. But her humming was abruptly interrupted when her gaze fell upon Draven inches away from her.

There he stood, on one side of the courtyard, his eyes fixed upon the moon as if lost in a world of his own. Rhea’s heart skipped a beat, she couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking about standing like that. "Draven?" She called out his name, her voice breaking the silence of the night, and slowly, Draven turned his head towards her.

His eyes, normally sharp and piercing, were now clouded by a haze of intoxication. The scent of alcohol carried on the wind, reaching Rhea’s nose, and it dawned upon her that he had been drinking throughout the day with the prince. "What the hell were you discussing with that prince that took you so long? Not just that, you even got drunk with him, you_"

Rhea stopped talking as she noticed his blue eyes glimmering with tears. A wave of worry suddenly washed over her, her desire to know what he had been talking about with the prince mingled with concern for his well-being. "Draven...are you alright?" She asked.

Before she could register her thoughts or react, Draven took a faltering step forward, closing the small distance between them. With unsteady movements, he wrapped his arms around her body, pulling her into a tight embrace. He buried his head in the crook of her neck, she could feel the warmth of his intoxicated breath against her neck mingling with the cold winter air. The suddenness of the gesture caught her off guard, but she couldn’t deny the familiar comfort that radiated from his touch.

But then she frowned when she felt something wet touch her skin, was he crying? But why? Did that prince say or do something to make her cold-hearted dragon cry? This man was under her protection, no one can hurt him nor his feelings. She suddenly felt anger wash over her as she felt another wetness on her neck.

"Draven?" She called and was about to press her hands on his chest to push him away to see if he was really crying, but then he tightened his hold around her body. "Rhea...I am sorry." His hoarse voice reached her ears, and made heat creep up her cheeks. The hands that were pressing against his chest weakened and fell to her side.

"Why are you apologising to me? What did you do?" She asked, but her question only made him tightened his hold around her body, he hugged her so tight that there was no space between them. She felt him rub his head against her neck, and felt his warm lips graze her skin. Rhea stiffened as warmth swelled in her body and settled in the pit of her stomach.

Draven’s behavior had an unexpected shamelessness and a bit of childlike feeling. Such a grown man acting like a child when drunk was totally unacceptable...he was unknowingly seducing her by rubbing his head against her skin in such way!

"Rheanna... don’t ever leave me..." He muttered softly against her skin again. Rhea felt her heart softened as his hold tightened more as if he was scared she’d run away if he let go. But the heat in her body increased.

His voice, laced with desperation, echoed in her ears again, "Please, Rhea...will you forgive me in the future..."

Rhea frowned in confusion. But before she could ask any questions, Draven pushed himself away from the embrace, his movements slow and deliberate. His trembling hands rose, cupping her cheeks with surprising tenderness. Rhea’s breath hitched, her eyes widening in surprise as his intentions became clear.

Time seemed to stand still as Draven’s lips descended upon hers. The taste of alcohol lingered on his lips, but beneath it all was a desperate longing, a desire to be understood. Rhea’s mind whirled with conflicting emotions, her heart torn between the betrayal of his actions and the raw intensity of the moment.

His lips parted hers, and a jolt of desire coursed through her veins as his tongue invaded her mouth. His hand went behind her neck to position her head, she unknowingly let out an embarrassing moan sound as he sucked on her lower lip. His kiss was aggressive, yet so gentle. It was nothing like the two times they’d mistakenly kissed. The intoxicating mix of his touch and the forbidden nature of the situation overwhelmed her senses. Her mind screamed for her to push him away, to put an end to this reckless display, but her body betrayed her as she felt herself leaning into his embrace.

The winter breeze faded away. In that moment, it was just the two of them, lost in a sea of emotions. Rhea’s desire, like a flickering flame, burned brighter with each passing second, consuming her inhibitions, she found herself wrapping her arms around his waist.

"Rhea, I am sorry..." He apologized yet again against her lips, and deepened the kiss. But as quickly as the kiss had ignited, reality crashed back into her world. Rhea’s eyes snapped open, her mind clearing from the haze of desire. With a surge of strength, she gently but firmly pushed against Draven’s chest away, breaking the connection that had momentarily consumed them. "Draven, what’s wrong with you. You...you are taking advantage of me while apologising. We shouldn’t be doing this." She said trying to avoid his intoxicated gaze.

"Hah...I am not apologising for kissing you, Rhea." He lightly laughed, "I am apologising for something I haven’t done yet, but I will have to do in the future. And..." He hadn’t finished speaking when he dropped into Rhea’s shoulder, his entire body went limb. But she hurriedly supported his body.

"Idiot, at least finish talking before you pass out!" She scolded, "You are really too heavy for me."
