Chapter 415: 306. Roommate in Progress
"Have you seen her yet?"
Jiangnan Garden building number 6.
The short-haired girl, wearing a warm, beige long-sleeved pajama set, opened the door for Lu Jincheng.
She was alone at home after taking a bath, her hair blow-dried to a damp state, just reclining on the sofa, absent-mindedly browsing the web on her tablet.
"Of course not that fast."
Lu Jincheng smiled and shook his head.
During the days they both had returned to Jiang City, they would often sit side by side on the carpet by the bed, leaning against the wall and gazing out the window, chatting about this or that sporadically.
Soulmates, that was who they were—completely in sync no matter the conversation.
Just like how Guan Yongyi knew exactly what Lu Jincheng was about to do.
She wouldn’t overtly or covertly prevent her boyfriend from cozying up to the sulking Zhou Sinin.
"Aren’t you afraid that you won’t be able to appease her after not seeing her for such a long time?"
"The right time hasn’t come yet."
"Tsk tsk, still so confident after breaking up."
Aside from the occasional meows from Mian Mian, the room was filled with their conversation.
Her voice grew faint, his mind wandered, and when she fell silent, his attention shifted to her spirited features, then down along her lips, sneaking into the neckline of her pajamas.
Going further down, he decided to stop right there.
"Right, when is your exam?"
Lu Jincheng cleared his throat, turned his face away, looked at Guan Yongyi sitting in the middle of the sofa with a stuffed teddy bear in her arms, and decided to change the subject.
"Ah... almost forgot, I think it’s the day after tomorrow, the first one."
Guan Yongyi suddenly remembered something and slapped her head with annoyance.
"Not living in the dormitory sure does lack the vibe, doesn’t even feel tense when revising."
"Why don’t you go back to stay then?"
Lu Jincheng glanced at her and then looked away, leaning over to take the teddy bear from her arms while he lowered his head to pinch its ears and spoke up.
"After all, that girl who had issues with you took a leave of absence, and you’ve made new friends in the class too. If you want to experience dorm life again, it’s not too late."
"Ugh."
Guan Yongyi didn’t want to hear any of that, her lips pursed and she kicked out at him with her leg.
"I didn’t ask for your input."
Snatching back the teddy bear from his hand, she tilted her head back against the edge of the bed and sighed.
"I certainly don’t think there’s anything good about communal living."
"Besides, if I really did stay at the dorm, and the campus was my main hangout spot, what would I do if I ran into her?"
"Then... just greet her normally?"
Lu Jincheng looked at her despondent expression, couldn’t help but curl his lips slightly, and leaned back deep into the sofa, shoulder to shoulder with her.
"Get lost!"
Guan Yongyi gave the man a fierce glare.
"Don’t talk about it, in the middle of the month, we’re still going on a trip together, help!"
"I really don’t get it, why would she still go?"
"You tell me why?"
Guan Yongyi shook her head, looking at the ceiling with her knees stretched out, in a resigned demeanor.
"I don’t even know what to do when I see her."
"It’s quite obvious what to do."
The man’s pace of speech was rarely slower.
This was the first time he showed a hint of confidence in his eyes when mentioning Zhou Sinin since they’d started talking about her.
"Is it?"
Guan Yongyi suddenly turned her head to look at Lu Jincheng, blinking: "How is it obvious?!"
"With your understanding of her, do you think she would tell her family about what happened during this time?"
"Absolutely impossible."
Guan Yongyi waved her hand decisively.
"So, you see."
The man spread his hands: "She’ll probably continue playing the role of close sisters with you once she’s in Europe."
"..."
Guan Yongyi didn’t respond.
She leaned back into the sofa, carefully swallowed the skepticism that had crept into the corner of her mouth, and took her time to respond.
"Well, she’s really going through a lot of trouble, huh."
She suddenly understood what Lu Jincheng meant.
’Surface sisters’—the term sounded odd.
But wasn’t that her own role before?
Could it be...
That Zhou Sinin could really be won over by him, change her heart, and decide to confront her, determined to fight for the throne?
How could that be possible?
Guan Yongyi turned her wrist, kept her smile, and subtly pressed on her head.
After thinking it over, she immediately shifted the subject.
"Oh, right."
"Hm?"
The man replied softly.
"You guys are done with exams, aren’t you?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Doesn’t that mean the dorms will also be closed?"
"... Seems so."
Lu Jincheng’s mouth curved up in a smile, which he tried to suppress, but it sprang back up uncontrollably.
Although they had become an official couple after coming clean with her close friend.
Guan Guan, every now and then, would still show her tsundere side.
Even inviting him to live together had to be phrased in such a roundabout, subtle way.
It was just too adorable.
They tacitly avoided any talk about Lu Jincheng’s apartment at Jiangnan Garden, as if that empty place in building 14 never existed.
Both sitting shoulder to shoulder, looking at the ceiling, Guan Yongyi’s heart raced, but she tried her best to act nonchalant.
"Um, why don’t you come stay at my place for a few days? I can take you in as a roommate."
Her gaze drifted out the window as she asked slowly.
"Isn’t that a bad idea? The ancients always said, ’As the sun and moon are clear and bright, so husbands and wives are distant.’"
"If we really live together, what if you get tired of me? Having to put up with each other when we don’t want to see each other’s faces."
He, too, followed Guan Yongyi’s gaze and answered languidly.
In the pause before Guan Yongyi was about to respond in irritation, Lu Jincheng seemed to think of something, turned his head to glance at her.
"Hey, you’re not going to mess with the bedsheets again, are you? Otherwise, I might not be able to afford the loss."
"Shut up, will you!"
Guan Yongyi furrowed her brows and kicked out at him again.
She missed, but she was still happy.
Fiddling with the teddy bear in her hand on and off, she felt like the toy was smiling back at her.
