Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Wish

Aurora wanted to respond, to squeeze Adriana’s hand, to let her know that she wasn’t alone.

But her body remained still, unresponsive.

She could only listen.

As the night deepened, Adriana eventually drifted off, her exhaustion pulling her into sleep. But even in slumber, her grip on Aurora’s hand didn’t loosen.

Aurora, on the other hand, remained awake.

All the things that Adriana had said echoed in her mind.

’So the reason why Mother refused to change the library even when father pointed out how low they paid was because...of Alex.

But if she loves Alex so much, why didn’t she bring Alex to our home? Was it truly because Alex’s father was rich and mother couldn’t bear to see Alex suffer so...

No! Mother isn’t that kind of person. She did say about the restraining order and stuff. There must be something else that mother is hiding.’

Eventually, Aurora felt sleepy.

Usually, a coma patient does not "sleep" in the traditional sense; they are unconscious and cannot be awakened, meaning they lack a normal sleep-wake cycle.

However, Aurora had an inkling that she wasn’t in a coma at all. It was more like someone had put her on mute and closed her eyes.

.......

The next day.

Adriana woke up early and wiped away Aurora’s body while chatting with her.

When Theodore arrived with breakfast, Adriana scolded,

"Why did you bring food? Didn’t I ask you to leave all the snacks and foods that have tempting smell outside the room?"

Theodore scratched the back of his head and explained,

"Eldest sister, I thought if I let Aurora smell something delicious, she would wake up due to stimulation."

"She is in a coma! Do you understand? Coma is a state where external stimulation has no effect on the patient!" Adriana snapped, her voice sharp with frustration.

Theodore flinched slightly but didn’t back down.

"I know that, but..." He hesitated, his usual playful demeanor absent. "I just thought... what if she’s different?"

Adriana let out a tired sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose.

She knew Theodore wasn’t trying to be careless. He just wanted Aurora to wake up as much as they all did.

Still, she couldn’t afford to entertain false hope.

"Theo," she said, her voice softer now, "I appreciate that you’re trying, but we need to be patient. It’s not that simple."

Theodore bit his lip, clearly frustrated, but nodded. "I just miss her," he murmured.

Adriana’s gaze softened. "We all do."

She took the tray from him and set it aside, making a mental note to eat later. For now, Aurora needed her full attention.

Gently, she resumed wiping Aurora’s arms, her touch careful, as if afraid she might break her.

"You know," she murmured, more to herself than to anyone else, "I wish to bring Alex back."

"Alex? Who is he? Your boyfriend?" Theodore asked curiously.

Aurora: "..." My stupid brother.

Adriana: "..." Why is his IQ falling day by day?

"He is mother’s first son and our half-brother," Adriana explained with her gritted teeth.

Theodore blinked before nodding his head. Then, as if finally processing the situation, he asked,

"But wait...isn’t his dad rich? Why does he want to live with us?"

"Well apparently, he craves mother’s love." Adriana threw off a random statement.

She didn’t doubt that Alex would refuse their offer.

What she wanted was for Theodore to ask her how she knew about Alex’s feelings so that she could tell him everything that she had told Aurora.

But she still overestimated Theodore’s intelligence because the next second Theodore said,

"Ugh...does he know our mother’s love language is throwing a rolling pin in our direction?"

Adriana: "..." Why can’t he focus on the logical aspects?

Suddenly, Theodore chuckled and asked with a gossipy expression,

"Tell me...is he perhaps a maschoist? Or does he think that mother is gentle and kind..."

Adriana: "..." Did Olivia eat up Theodore’s brain when they were in mother’s womb? How could he think about everything from the wrong angle!

Adriana let out a long, exhausted sigh, rubbing her temples.

"Theo, I beg you, use at least one brain cell."

Theodore grinned, completely unbothered by her irritation.

"What? I’m just saying, if he willingly wants to come here knowing how strict Mother is, then either he’s got a weird obsession with suffering or—"

"Or he just wants to be with his mother," Adriana cut in sharply.

"Not everyone has the luxury of growing up with a parent who cares, Theodore."

Her tone wiped the smirk off his face. He blinked, a flicker of guilt crossing his expression.

"Right... I guess I didn’t think of it that way," he muttered, scratching the back of his head.

Adriana sighed again, her anger deflating.

"It’s fine. But Theo, this isn’t a joke. Alex has been alone for a long time."

Theodore frowned, crossing his arms.

"Yeah, but so have we, Adri. We didn’t exactly grow up drowning in affection either."

He smirked and pointed it out,

"He maybe a lone person, unloved by his father and mother, but at least he had money. Money can give you everything, Adri.

People, fame, marks, and most importantly, influence. Lucas, and you know it better than us.

After all, it wasn’t Alex who had to wake up at 6 for his part-time job. God knows whether he has ever done a waiter job in his entire life."

Adriana stiffened. She hated to admit it, but Theodore had a point.

Alex had lived a life of wealth, even if it was a lonely one.

Meanwhile, they had struggled—working early mornings, juggling responsibilities, dealing with a mother who wasn’t exactly nurturing and a father who barely seemed present.

It wasn’t fair.

But then again, was anything ever fair in their family?

Adriana took a slow breath.

"You’re right, Theo. He’s had it easier in some ways. But does that mean he doesn’t deserve to know his mother?"

Theodore smiled widely,

"That is what I am trying to say, right? Let him know how cute our mother is. I wish you had made that wish before! He could have joined us in the spanking session by Father!"
