Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Letters

With little time left, Aurora wrote a letter to each of her family members.

By the time she was finished, Theodore had arrived.

Seeing Aurora tinkering with the paper and pen, he thought she was studying and mocked her,

"Hey, did the sun rise from west?"

Aurora smiled, but for some reason, Theodore felt as if she was in a bad mood.

He hesitated before asking,

"Are you scared?"

Scared?

Aurora was taken aback by the question before understanding what Theodore meant.

From tomorrow, the countdown to surgery will start.

Everyone was nervous.

Even she was, because she knew that no such surgery or treatment would happen.

Instead, she would be in a coma for the next 3 years.

The fear of being surrounded by the darkness enveloped her.

"I am," Aurora replied.

She was very scared, but...she couldn’t tell everyone the truth.

For a moment, Aurora didn’t know if she should cry or laugh.

She was already fortunate that she didn’t have to fight against the Wilms tumor and can sleep through the disease, yet she was frightened.

Theodore fell silent for a moment before sitting down beside her. He rarely saw Aurora this vulnerable.

It made him uncomfortable, yet at the same time, it made him realize just how much she had been holding back all this time.

"You’ll be fine," he said, though his voice lacked the usual confidence.

Aurora smiled faintly.

"You don’t have to lie to me, Theodore. The path is long..."

His hands clenched into fists. "Then fight it. If anyone can, it’s you."

Aurora didn’t reply. She had already fought—fought to change fate, fought to protect her family.

And now she had left everything to fate.

After a moment of silence, she slid an envelope toward him.

"This is for you," she said.

Theodore raised an eyebrow. "A letter?"

Aurora nodded. "Read it tomorrow."

Theodore’s ips pressed into a thin line as he took the envelope. Something about this felt final, and he didn’t like it.

Before he could say anything else, the door opened, and Lucas stepped in.

His face was pale, his eyes red as if he hadn’t slept.

"The doctor said you should rest, Aurora," Lucas muttered, his voice tight.

Aurora smiled. "I will, soon."

Lucas paused, hearing the bitterness in her ton,e and ruffled her hair,

"Hey, don’t be so worried. Everything will turn out well. You have your eldest brother. Brother will protect you."

Aurora’s slightly moistened, and she hugged Lucas’s waist.

"Brother, I am scared." Her voice was trembling towards the end.

Lucas’s heart throbbed painfully. He hugged and reassured her,

"Don’t worry, brother is here."

After assuring Aurora for the next 20 minutes, Lucas sat down.

Aurora gave him a letter, too, and said the same thing.

Olivia and Adam arrived at the hospital at 9 pm.

Aurora was barely able to hold on and pass them a letter.

When even after 10 pm Adriana and Mary didn’t return, Aurora handed the letters of their names to Adam.

Seeing her drowsy expression, Adam laughed.

The next morning, the hospital room was quiet. Olivia woke up first and saw Aurora still asleep.

Thinking Aurora was just resting, Olivia smiled softly and let her be.

She knew Aurora had been tired. After all, everyone had been so stressed about her surgery.

Hours passed.

By noon, Olivia frowned. She gently shook Aurora’s shoulder.

"Aurora, wake up. It’s time to eat."

But Aurora didn’t move.

Olivia’s heart skipped a beat. She shook her again, harder this time.

"Aurora? Wake up!"

Nothing.

Cold fear crept up Olivia’s spine.

Her hands trembled as she pressed her fingers against Aurora’s cheek.

Her skin was warm, but there was no response.

Panicked, Olivia grabbed her phone and called the doctor.

Within minutes, doctors and nurses rushed in.

Theodore, Lucas, and Adam entered the room right after them, noticing the unusual tension.

Theodore frowned. "What’s going on?"

"I don’t know! She won’t wake up!" Olivia’s voice cracked as she clutched Lucas’s arm.

Lucas’s face darkened. He stepped forward, watching as the doctor checked Aurora’s pulse and shined a light into her eyes.

Minutes stretched like hours.

Finally, the doctor stood up, his expression serious.

"She’s fallen into a coma."

The room fell silent.

A heavy, suffocating silence.

Lucas’s hands shook. "No... that’s not possible! She was fine last night!"

Theodore’s face lost all color. "You’re lying, right? She’s just in a deep sleep, right?"

The doctor shook his head. "I’m sorry."

A strangled sound left Olivia’s throat. She stumbled back, her eyes wide with disbelief.

"No... No, no, no!"

At that moment, the door burst open. Mary and Adriana had just arrived, looking confused at the chaos.

"What’s going on?" Mary asked, her gaze darting around the room.

Adriana looked at Olivia, whose face was drenched in tears. Then she turned to Theodore and Lucas, both frozen in shock.

Adam’s lips trembled. "Aurora... she’s in a coma."

The words struck like lightning.

Mary’s breath hitched. She staggered forward, grabbing Aurora’s hand. "No! She was talking last night! Aurora, wake up! Wake up, baby!"

Adriana’s body stiffened. "No. You’re lying."

The doctor sighed. "I wish I was."

Adriana stared at Aurora, waiting for her to suddenly open her eyes and say it was all a joke. But the longer she stared, the more the truth sank in.

Her legs gave out, and she fell to the floor. "No... she can’t be..."

Tears blurred her vision.

Mary sobbed, holding Aurora’s hand tightly. "Please, baby... Please don’t leave us..."

The doctor tried to calm them down.

Lucas wiped his face roughly, his whole body shaking. "I promised to protect her. I promised!"

Theodore clenched his fists, his face contorted with pain. "She... she knew..."

His gaze landed on the envelope in his pocket.

One by one, everyone realized they had a letter from Aurora.

"Did she know that she was going into a coma?" Lucas muttered.

"But how could she know that she was going to fall into a coma?" Theodore counterattacked.
