Chapter 79: Slap
Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Slap
Mary’s face turned pale, and she shook her head.
"No... Adriana, you are misunderstanding, I—"
Adriana interrupted her.
"Mom, please. You didn’t want him to suffer with us, so you didn’t bring him back. Now that our financial situation is a bit better, you’re starting to think about him.
Why do you love him so much, Mom? Why can’t you let him go? We are your children! We! Not him! Stop chasing after him!"
Aurora frowned and said,
"Sister, you are being too harsh—"
"No! I am not!" Adriana shouted.
"I am telling the truth! Aurora, I thought you understood us and loved us, but now, I think you too are charmed by that b*stard..."
Slap.
Mary slapped Adriana. Her eyes had turned red, and she gritted her teeth.
"He is not a b*stard! Don’t you dare call him that."
Adriana placed her hand on her face, her eyes widening in shock. She froze, unable to speak.
The atmosphere stilled.
It took some time for Aurora to react.
"Sister, are you okay?"
Mary, too, realized her mistake and reached out to hold Adriana’s forearm, but Adriana dodged.
A bitter smile appeared on Adriana’s face.
"See, Mom... you love him more than me, and I hate you for that. I hate you!"
She turned and left the hospital room.
Mary remained frozen in place before lowering her head and hand.
"I will send Dad back," she murmured.
Aurora tried to stop her.
"Mom, please don’t leave..."
Mary hesitated for a moment, her eyes filled with guilt and regret.
She turned towards the door, her steps slow, as if she wanted to stay but felt like she had no choice.
Aurora reached out and grabbed her mother’s wrist, her grip firm despite her weakening strength.
"Mom, please," she pleaded, her voice shaking.
"Aurora, I need some time off."
With that, Mary left.
"Mom! Mom! Please!"
But Mary didn’t turn back.
Aurora knew it was her mistake. If only she had not rushed, Mary and Adriana wouldn’t have fought in the first place.
"I messed up everything..." she muttered.
Frustration crept into her heart.
"Why does everything have to go wrong at the last moment? I should have stayed quiet. No, I have to fix things..."
With that thought, Aurora picked up her phone and called Emily.
Soon, Emily arrived in the hospital room.
Aurora asked her to lock the door and said,
"I want to hire you as an assistant and a caretaker. Your yearly salary will be $200,000. As an employee benefit, you can live in one of the apartments without paying any rent."
Emily was stunned.
She had never heard of such a generous job offer in her entire life.
"$200,000 per year? With free accommodation?"
Emily’s lips parted in shock.
"Aurora, are you serious? That’s an insane amount... Why would you offer me so much?"
Aurora’s eyes were sharp, her exhaustion barely hidden.
"Because I trust you, Emily. And I need someone I can rely on."
Emily hesitated, torn between excitement and suspicion.
"What exactly do you need me to do?"
Aurora leaned back against the pillows, her fingers gripping the blanket.
"I need you to take care of my half-brother, Alex. You will have to find him and act as an investor for him."
If she couldn’t bring back Alex and couldn’t help her family avoid the fate of villains, then she would buy the company itself.
As long as her brother was the biggest investor in the company, who would dare to cross paths with him?
"In the near future, Alex will open a company. You have to buy shares in his company and put them in my eldest brother’s name."
Emily hesitated, still wrapping her mind around the situation.
"But what if he refuses the investment? What if he doesn’t trust me?"
A small, knowing smile appeared on Aurora’s lips.
"He won’t refuse. Alex has ambition, and he’ll need investors. That’s where you come in. You won’t just be his investor, you’ll be his ally.
Gain his trust, help him grow, and most importantly, make sure my eldest brother has a hold in his company."
Emily still looked uncertain.
"This is a huge responsibility, Aurora. What if something goes wrong?"
Aurora’s expression darkened.
"Then we’ll deal with it when the time comes. But for now, I need you to do this."
Emily agreed.
Aurora then asked Sophia to draft a contract stating that if Emily failed to complete the task assigned to her within the next three years, she would have to pay a fine of $10 million.
Of course, there were exceptions—if Alex refused the investment on his own, then it wouldn’t be Emily’s fault.
Emily signed the contract.
Aurora then handed her a card and said,
"I want you to buy 50 real estate properties and put them under my name, as well as $20 million in shares that generate dividends and $20 million in gold."
Her bank account would drop by $60 million, but she wanted a backup plan, so she decided to secure some assets under her own name.
"You can also invest up to $10 million in Alex’s company. Do it as fast as you can," Aurora said in a grim voice.
Her time was running out.
It was already noon, and by evening, she might fall into a coma. She had to prepare as much as she could.
"Alright." Emily nodded.
Once Emily left, Aurora set up an auto-pay for Emily’s salary and arranged a $1 million bonus.
Emily would receive it after Aurora fell into a coma.
The reason Aurora was giving Emily such a large bonus was to ensure that Emily wouldn’t have a hard life.
As for the fear that Emily would claim the assets under Adam and Mary’s name after Aurora fell into a coma?
Aurora had already made Emily sign a contract stating she couldn’t ask for the assets back.
Being cautious was better than crying later.
The reality was that when it came to money, Aurora couldn’t trust anyone.
