Chapter 966: Chapter 233: Stars Shine over Sand City
His Majesty the King truly admired the shamelessness of the Shaman of Divine Songs to the extreme, even offering the Beamon giant beast as a repayment. But where in the world could one even catch such a golden-furred giant beast?
"Richard, stop causing trouble!" His Majesty the King wished he could bonk the boy on the head with the staff in his hand, "The Nether River Rune Gem has indeed put the temple in a difficult position. How about this... The batch of military beasts trained by our beast tamers, I shall give Moer the right to choose freely! If that’s not acceptable, I’ll bring in the horse experts from the Haus Clan to select the finest Thousand-Mile Horses for Moer!"
Liu Zhenhan’s hopes were instantly dashed. He had originally planned to at least extort a Sub-dragon Magical Beast, but now that was off the table. He could deal with the slippery nature of the Pope, but he was unable to make a fuss in the face of His Majesty’s generosity. Along with his disappointment, Old Liu also took this opportunity to note the character differences between the two high-ranking figures of Beamon. From his point of view, the Pope and the King were incomparable; the former had a petty air about him while the latter displayed a grandeur that only became apparent when contrasted against the other.
After the completion of the promotion ceremony, the sacrificial festival also entered its climax—the twelve-person battle. Lord Swan High Priest Mourinho’s children, Golinny and Gomes, performed exceptionally well. The sister and brother duo, practitioners of both magic and songs, didn’t even need to summon their magical pets from start to finish, easily defeating their opponents and attaining the qualifications for the next round.
Liu Zhenhan had initially thought that the Swan High Priest Mourinho would distribute his luxurious follower team equally between the siblings. However, Liu Zhenhan soon realized his mistake, he had underestimated the Swan High Priest. Golinny and Gomes’ followers did not include those familiar to Liu Zhenhan—Giant Warriors with Frost Armor, Teutonic Soldiers, Berserker Warriors, Bearded Dwarf Soldiers, and Distant-view Berserkers.
Golinny’s followers were exclusively women, among them unusual soldier types like Jungle Walkers, as well as people from the Sethites, and among the Half-Beasts there was the "Sajutevis"—a monstrous creature with the head of a human and the body of a horse, also skilled in archery. They resembled the human-headed, deer-bodied Forest Guardians and Forest Dryads Liu Zhenhan had encountered in the Underground World in stature, belonging to one type of Half-Beast. Although the Beamon Haus Clan has always been known as the ’Centaur’ in honor of the heavenly Aiolis Constellation, in reality, the Haus Clan and all Beamons are perfectly normal.
The Jungle Walkers, who had pledged allegiance to Bimon Kingdom’s Pier region after the "Southern Star Battle," were a group of formidable women warriors that Golinny had recruited from who knows where.
These female Jungle Walkers, wielding their heavy axes, were unstoppable. Together with the assistance of two Sethite Witch Mages casting spells of attack and curses intermittently, they forced the opponent to retreat step by step, their ferocity prompting a flurry of whispers among the Pier Race generals in the stands.
It’s a tradition in Beamon that women do not enter the battlefield or join the military. While the women of both Rhine and Taige Clans, due to their noble status, have a reputation as ’lionesses’ and ’tigresses’ and are more combat-skillful than ordinary Beamon soldiers, they still cannot break this age-old rule; Golinny’s brave female army was indeed a rare phenomenon in the history of Beamon.
Gomes, on the other hand, evidently followed his father’s excellent tradition, leading a troop composed entirely of Elf warriors. From Druids transformed into bears, to Priestesses riding White Tigers, to Elf warriors toting buzz saws, as well as Archers, Mages, and even an exceedingly rare Flower Elf—a tiny elf the size of a butterfly, capable of invisibility under the moonlight, possessing a unique ability to purify and dispel Elemental Power at great speed. With such a comprehensive alliance of forces, their victory was no surprise.
Another conspicuous contender was Fei Wenli from Caiyu City, the last of the Medusas. One could tell that their lineup was carefully selected: the towering Serpent and Whirlwind Warriors were unmatched by ordinary Beamon warriors. Although they lacked ranged attack firepower, the robust frontline of warriors combined with priestly support was a traditional Beamon tactic, allowing them to overwhelm the competition and advance smoothly.
Master Puskas watched with great interest. Even he had never felt the combat power of Beamon warriors from such a close distance, especially in a high-level competition like this.
"If this team of Medusa warriors were to fight in the water, their combat prowess would be even more astonishing," said the king, as the host, he naturally explained the characteristics of Beamon warriors to the master. His eyes glanced at Figo, the Whale Warrior standing with his hands behind his back behind Moer, and a hint of disdain flashed across his face. He then added, "Master, take a look at Moer’s Banilou Warrior. According to Richard’s introduction, this warrior holds the title of commander of the Sea Clan’s Imperial Guard, having jurisdiction over the inner court warriors of the Seia Sea Clan. His combat power is unimaginable."
Master Puskas turned his head, glanced at Figo, and smiled.
"What’s the use? A powerful magic spell can knock down even the strongest warrior in one fell swoop," Liu Zhenhan scoffed from the side. "The best way to use such warriors is to disperse them into small groups for missions that require a strong element of surprise, such as striking from behind enemy lines."
"Richard, our priests didn’t just grow up on vegetables," the High Priest in red robes, Brill, interpolated deliberately.
Liu Zhenhan sensed the implicit hostility and caution from this High Priest and burst into laughter, leaving Brill feeling baffled and awkwardly touching his face.
"Not bad," Master Puskas nodded with a smile. "What I didn’t expect was for the priests in the Olympic games to be so earnest in combat. Aren’t your Majesty and Brill worried about accidental injuries?"
"Haha..." King Grecke Sal laughed boisterously. "If the followers of the priesthood can’t even control their power in a small competition like this, resulting in accidental injuries, do they even deserve to be followers?"
"Time brings forth new talents; it’s no exaggeration that Beamon claims to have the strongest warriors on the continent," stated Master Puskas, raising his finger in admiration. "In the human world, any competition involves wrapping the blade with cotton cloth."
Liu Zhenhan’s face turned a bright red at the mention. His followers would most likely be unable to control their force; they were too accustomed to lethal moves due to their many life-threatening exploits.
"Master, please stop praising us," said Helen, a naive child through and through, who was a bit embarrassed by all the compliments from Master Saint Chiao, blissfully unaware that they were nothing but pleasantries.
"Hehe..." Upon hearing Helen’s words, several old geezers burst into knowing laughter.
"Hmm... It seems like Medusa is simply relying on being close by, charging forward incessantly, lacking in long-range firepower. That’s not really a good thing," Liu Zhenhan smacked his lips, posturing like a seasoned veteran of the battlefield as he pompously offered his strategic input. However, this shortcoming was apparently known to all, visible to anyone with eyes, and Liu’s showboating only drew a few disdainful glances.
"Master, who do you think will take the laurels at the ritual celebration this time?" His Majesty the King gave Liu a knowing look, asking Master Puskas of Saint Chiao in a pleasant tone.
"The disparity is rather large; Your Majesty must have seen it as well," Master Puskas chuckled, "What matters for a leader is the strong foundation, not just picking a few standout performers. While that may work for Mages, it certainly isn’t the case for priests, unless there are a couple more like little Mo and Richard."
"Master flatters me," Mourinho stood up very respectfully and gave thanks to the Master.
Liu Zhenhan kept fiddling with a skull necklace in his hand, feeling that what Puskas said was true, so he didn’t bother with formalities.
"What I like most about you is your carefree and casual manner. A true man should walk between heaven and earth without so many restraints," Master Saint Chiao’s eyes were on Liu Zhenhan, as if a mother-in-law was admiring her son-in-law, the more she looked, the more pleased she became. This gaze immediately stirred undisguised jealousy in Lord Mourinho.
The old fart is praising me, thought Liu Zhenhan while he casually whistled a frivolous tune.
Thinking it over a bit more, Liu Zhenhan suddenly felt a touch of regret; he thought he deserved to be ’shot’ a few times over.
"Master seems to really like Richard, which is quite rare," King Grecke of Sal spoke with a light smile, and then with a more sly grin, he nodded, "Aren’t we Beamon seen as the very definition of barbarians in the eyes of humans? Why doesn’t the Master think the same?"
Bullshit. Liu Zhenhan tossed a bamboo chip into his mouth and chewed noisily, crackling away.
"A foster son should be like Richard · Zhenhan · Liu," declared Master Puskas, pointing at Liu as he voraciously nibbled on the bamboo chip.
Dressed in a pristine egret feather robe and a red, glowing gemstone staff, this was "Cangqiong Prophet" Moer.
Adorned with a peacock feather pearl dress, an ancient bronze Mage’s codex from the Hamora era, and a golden staff, this was "High Priestess of Cambridge" Helen.
Standing between the two unmatched beauties was none other than "Shaman of Divine Songs" Liu Zhenhan, sporting a porcupine skin crown embellished with chains and silver ornaments, three dazzling, bright medals on his chest, and clasping a necklace of oversized, outlandish skull beads.
Liu Zhenhan offered a faint smile, to be honest, he hadn’t understood the old man’s convoluted nonsense, so he came across as particularly natural.
His natural demeanor allowed all his charisma to burst forth in that instant; set off by the beauty of the women and introduced by the Master, his gaze now domineering and imperious.
That mere faint smile already encompassed everything.
