Chapter 721: Chapter 154 Spreading the Seeds of Crack_2
"Knight, is this how you treat a revered Elven Prince and diplomatic envoy of the Moore Kingdom?" His Excellency Benitez was furious, but he still sensibly restrained his Moore knights from making a move. "Do you know, even your matriarch would not dare take away the sword from my hand!"
"I won’t repeat this a third time, put down your weapons quickly!" A Drow Knight Officer sternly reiterated his statement, waving the golden halberd with phoenix feathers in his hand.
Fat Luo and Vieri didn’t hesitate as much. Seeing that they were also being surrounded, courage sprouted out of fear. Two Misha badges shone brightly, one summoning a Thunder Beast and the other a Giant Tree Marmot. Pulling out their long knife and huge axe, they mounted their steeds and scornfully glared at the Drow Chariot knights. The other Blood Elf knights, inspired by these two exemplary figures, also unsheathed their long swords.
The Drow Chariot knights gasped as a chill traveled down their spines, startled by the two huge beasts that appeared all of a sudden, involuntarily expanding their encirclement.
The Thunder Beast was a mount given by the Great Shaman Qi Dan to the revered Knight Gude of the Holy Temple, which was then solemnly given to the Mammoth Cavalry, entrusted to Fat Luo, who was half cavalry and half infantry. This beast, similar to a huge rhino, had a hammer-shaped horn, a thick stone skin akin to armour all over its body, and like the mammoth, had no sense of pain on its skin. The hardness of the hammer-shaped horn was quite astonishing; it could guarantee that even if it ran into a mountain at high speed, it would only shake its head and walk away. The Giant Tree Marmot was a close relative of the giant bear; tough and powerful, its twelve-inch claws could tear apart any standard steel armor. Despite looking like a delirious penguin when running, this huge, clumsy beast could climb a building or a mountain like a gecko walking on level ground.
The Giant Tree Marmot indeed did so now; it quickly climbed up a multi-story building using the massive vines and shrubs, poised and ready to jump down. The height of about ten meters was an ideal striking range for the giant beast. The knight Vieri, straddling its saddle, was holding a tortoise shell shield in one hand and a door-sized axe in the other, his eyes shining deviously.
The only one among them without a mount, Iverson, watched his impressive colleagues with envy. Being too short, he always ended up being obscured in the crowd, his viewpoint rarely rising above thigh level.
Guoguo, wearing a steel helmet and riding a parrot, gleefully flew overhead. His claws, concealed in his belly pocket and bulging, must have just stolen some precious thing from the Blood Elf Prince.
Drow’s Dark Elves looked stunned at the two Beamon Knights, standing firm like an Iron Fortress. They were somewhat taken aback. Fat Luo’s unsheathed long knife had dazzled their eyes, the giant tree marmot’s appearance had scared them. They never thought that amongst this motley crowd, there could be people capable of standing so audaciously dominant under such circumstances.
Vieri lay on the back of the giant tree marmot, trying hard to contain his laughter but ultimately unable to do so. He never dreamt that he could witness a War Chariot Cavalry, an ancient, quaint troop formation. This type of ancient chariot was discarded from the cavalry ranks of the Aegean Continent long ago. Its glory days were two thousand years prior. These chariots, which carried a minimum of three passengers, would at least guarantee the presence of one charioteer and two warriors, an Archer and a Halberdier. The more the charioteer, more would be the number of warriors. The war chariot cavalry held significant value in ancient Aegean Continent. It had impressive close-range and long-range combat capabilities, but its dual-nature made it futile.
The heavy war chariots had to ensure speed and thus needed at least two or four draft animals, with some even having eight. However, if the animal pulling the cart dies during battle and the charioteer doesn’t cut their harness in time, the situation becomes dire for the chariot. These chariots were also limited by the terrain. If the battlefield was uneven or littered with corpses, the chariot would shake violently, hindering the soldiers on the chariot from shooting arrows or swinging halberds properly, and standing on the chariot would become a challenge too. These elements of ancient transportation and warfare played a significant role in why they were eventually phased out of battles.
Compared to them, Fei Leng Cui’s cavalry was an unqualified one, too. The Mammoth, Woolly Rhinoceros, and Thunder Beast were only good for short-distance assault, not suitable for the long-distance attacks usually seen in modern warfare. However, while the Cave Bear, the Earth Badger, and the Giant Tree Marmot lacked speed, they were excellent for standing guard or participating in close-quarters combat. If Fei Leng Cui’s cavalry were apprehended on an open plain by the light cavalry, they’d be done for, but in large-scale warfare or defensive battles similar to the Fei Leng Cui defense, this cavalry was invincible against an opponent of an equal size.
The sight before Vieri and Fat Luo was of a backstreet battle that was tailor-made for their skills. The might of their mounts was overpowering the enemy’s chariots, and the opponent’s arrows evidently failed to sow seeds of fear in these battle-hardened soldiers of Fei Lengcui. With their strong armor and sharp swords, they were confident enough to cut down their opponents into pieces.
The Drow charioteers tightly held the reins of their wolf-legged spiders, fearing any impulsive action could lead to international conflict. The Blood Elves and the Dark Elves have been at war for many years. Although the diplomatic parties on both sides have recently signed a bilateral agreement, the common people are not as politically awakened and still hold grudges. The Drow could obviously not swallow the humiliation they had been subjected to in front of the eyes of their citizens, even if they were now allied. Under apparent circumstances, these Heavy Cavalry did not seem interested in causing significant bloodshed but were merely trying to regain their lost honor.
"Hold on! Cease!" Although the priests and some martial arts practitioners were late to come to the scene, they managed to contain the situation, pacifying both sides who were ready to battle. Despite feeling very angry, at the unprovoked attack from the Dark Elves on his pet Troll Bat, the Blood elf Prince Benitez knew he was at a disadvantage and had to hold his frustration and not say anything in order to avoid escalating the situation.
Of course, Vieri and Fat Luo also knew when to stop. After all, they were responsible for instigating the situation and a thorough investigation would not bode well for them. Even though they had managed to clean up the Troll’s mess using the Space Ring and get rid of them in the Insect Basin, they could not help but feel guilty.
