Chapter 651: Chapter 137 Winter Visit to the Underground to Watch Rain_3

Liu Zhenhan was a bit puzzled. His force was a mere five hundred strong, and even without the Tauren’s iron-lock formation, the levels of magical power, while impressive, shouldn’t be enough to scare these unscathed folks, right? They hesitated to fight and to retreat – what kind of strategy was this?

Although the overlord wasn’t a military expert, he encouraged democratic discussions within the military. So, he threw this question out for everyone to dissect.

The indigenous faction unanimously opined that the Moore blood elf army behaved differently this time. Their force was unprecedentedly large, and for the first time, blood elf mages were spotted on the battlefield. Such a scene hadn’t occurred in historical encounters, as the fallen elves had stopped showing up at the Flame Mountain Valley to lead the attack in person for countless years. How could anyone dare to provoke the Soul Wanderers, Antelope Warriors, or hellfire practitioners, especially the Difeng Giants, known for their "hellfire"? These fire magic practitioners possessed incredible physical strength and simple yet powerful fire magic. Even if the royal elf mages were deployed to counter magic with magic, they would face a heavy casualty rate when trying to eliminate these fierce Difeng Giants. The Difeng Giants carried the lineage of the Titans- even a super-level magical beast like a giant dragon would never underestimate them.

The conflicts between the Flame Mountain Valley and the fallen elves were not particularly severe. The Flame Mountain Valley, after all, wasn’t tremendously prosperous. The sheer quantity of food resources might be terrifying, but sacrificing a battalion to claim them didn’t seem worthwhile. The Difeng Giant’s "flaming meteor" was a racial ability rather than elemental magic, so the blood elves couldn’t drain magic from them. Engaging in a grueling battle against such formidable opponents would be unnecessary for the calculating fallen elves. In truth, the fallen elves had never shown any intention of going all out in a battle for years. The Tauren and Giants, not being naturally aggressive and lacking the strength to invade the second level of the Underground World-the Black Domain Continent, were no threat. It was wise for the fallen elves to maintain restraint towards such harmless strong opponents.

The blood elves’ apparent hostility today was strikingly different from before. What was their hidden agenda? Why had they risked so much this time? Although the indigenous faction predominantly consisted of brawny individuals who could hardly produce a coherent analysis, even the slowest among them could sense the impending severity of the situation. It was an unwritten tradition among Fallen Elf armies that any battle involving a royal elf was a fight to the death. While elves possessed acute magic senses that far surpassed other intelligent races, only a minuscule proportion of them became professional mages. Just like any other society, the majority of elf society consisted of commoners. For the blood elves, fielding a mage for battle indicated a combat they must win.

The foreboding signs were not good; the hearts of the Taurens and Giants were heavy.

Liu Zhenhan made a hypothesis after considering the indigenous folks’ opinions. Apart from fear and apprehension towards both races’ coureageous warriors, the two fallen elf races might not have wished to eradicate the Furious Flame Continent’s Cave Dwellers completely. After al, both elf races were non-productive and needed farmers to provide for their survivial. The Cave Dwellers were the best source of labour. Seizing all their food resources would be the equivalent of killing the goose that laid the golden eggs. The Elven race had abundant needs for cheap labour, and these cave dwellers were so cowardly they were little more than livestock, to be slaughtered or fed at their captors’ whim. Given elves’ intelligence, they must have considered the adage of "draining the pond to get the fish". History had proven that exterminating a race was relatively easy. For instance, many factions of the Beamon clan, which once dominated the Aegean Continent, were obliterated in several genocides during global wars over the past ten millenia. These fallen tribes were much more stalwart than the Cave Dwellers.

If all cave dwellers were exterminated in the adrenaline rush, what would the two fallen elf races depend on for survival? Surely they wouldn’t farm on their own?

Liu Zhenhan’s hypothesis had grounds. His judgement was based on the existing number of Cave Dwellers in the Black Domain Continent under the rule of the two fallen elf races. Even now, there were twenty million Cave Dwellers dwelling there. If the fallen elves had intended to eradicate the Cave Dwellers, they would be long gone in ten thousand years- there would be no two million cave dwellers left in the Black Domain Continent.
