Chapter 403: Chapter 88 The Whet of a Knife_3

Within the kingdom, only Lord Mourinho, in the "Sacrifice Legend", has a magic consultant under him. None of the other sacrifices have this ability yet. This thought only delighted Shaman Wei An more.

All settled down again, and everyone who was supposed to be eating went back to their meals.

Only Liu Zhenhan dragged the freedom-desiring Master Otigha and his apprentice Mexi back to the interrogation cave.

Such actions were no longer strange, as most people assumed that the Overlord was preparing to punish.

Surprisingly, not a single scream was heard from the interrogation cave. Soon, the Overlord walked out of the cave with Master Otigha’s hand. He had their wounds healed by Elder Andulan and personally fetched two black cloaks. He hung them on Master Otigha and his apprentice Mexi and had dinner with them.

The Overlord later announced that Master Otigha and his apprentice Mexi would be joining the Feilengcui Mage Group to resist the invasion of the Tornado Mercenary Group.

The addition of a mage was undoubtedly a welcome boon for Feilengcui. However, with every joy comes sorrow, and Count Totti quietly expressed his dissatisfaction to the Great Shaman.

Keeping such a powerful mage around posed a significant threat to the bat identity of the Shalba family. It was one thing to detain him, but how could they release him and plan to bribe him with significant responsibilities? If this mage were to return to Dorott and expose the secret of the Shalba family, Count Totti couldn’t escape the sanctions of the Holy Vatican, even as the son-in-law of the Holy San Francisco Empire.

Shaman Wei An was an old hand in these matters. Refusing a voluntarily offered mage was irrational, wasn’t it? Lord Qi Dan laughed it off with a long list of irrelevant points and cunning ignorance.

The beautiful snake instructor, Cui Beixi, was also confused. How did a proud mage agree to serve the enemy that captured him in a blink of an eye? The shift was too sudden, wasn’t it?

When the beautiful snake tutor quietly inquired how Liu Zhenhan had tamed the fire mage, Liu confidently boasted that it was all due to his charismatic personality. He made it seem as if the mage willingly surrendered out of respect, captivated by Liu’s powerful presence and the gears of history turning in Liu’s favour.

Cui Beixi was dazed and confused by his grandiloquence. She mulled over it for a whole night and finally remembered that these were phrases commonly used in knight novels.

It wasn’t until the second day, after Shaman Wei An and Instructor Cui Beixi had left, that Liu Zhenhan told his men the truth. After this incident, his respect for Cui Beixi turned into caution.

This feeling even subtly influenced Helen. The innocent fox-woman was very loyal to Liu Zhenhan.

The mage had not been bought off but had merely made a deal with old Liu.

What Master Otigha wanted was freedom. So Liu Zhenhan used freedom as a bargaining chip in the trade—the condition being that they would help Feilengcui win this battle. As long as they assisted in defending the city, the Overlord would swear by the name of the Supreme War God to release Master Otigha and his apprentice Mexi after the battle.

The Overlord also set the worst case scenario. All the prisoners of war, due to an explicit collaboration with the Shalba family, were likely ineligible to be ransomed. Thus, this might be the only opportunity for them to earn their freedom.

The Overlord directly informed Master Otigha that this choice was a one-way ticket, with no turning back. If he rejected this offer, Otigha would be executed immediately.

Given the choice between exchanging their freedom for an equivalent price or choosing death, Master Otigha hesitated.

The Overlord broke down the poor mage’s last line of defence with a single sentence.

"After all, ninety percent of your human battles are among yourselves. So what’s holding you back? The Tornado Mercenaries risk their lives for money. Why can’t you fight for your freedom? Don the cloak! I assure you, no one will know your true identity!" The Overlord’s cynical smile shattered Master Otigha’s heart completely as if pounded by a battering ram.

Everyone who heard this shivered. The Overlord of Feilengcui was exceptionally good at manipulating the minds of others. Fairy Dragon Daisy had the most profound impression of this—she was once persuaded by just one sentence from the Overlord. His wicked eyes always identified others’ deep-seated vulnerabilities.

Liu Zhenhan was left speechless to this evaluation.

Even if he found himself in a different world, inherent human flaws seemed not to change. This was clearly recorded in the History of the Aegean Continent. Besides the God and Demon War, the Sea and Land War, and the three World Wars against Heigar, the history of the Aegean Continent was primarily the story of human states swallowing each other. After overcoming all of the other races, humans began to take their kin as opponents. Endless internal conflicts and mutual killings became the main theme of continental history. Although other wisdom races also had such problems to a certain extent, none other than the Mank Tribe Beamon and humans could propagate the art of "killing each other" to such perfection.
