Chapter 363: Chapter 78: The Bloody Sanggan River_3
Several burly Beamon silently surfaced from the water, appearing where the Heavy Scythe-wielders should have been - in the middle of the hollow formation. Their Super Giant Axes glistened and dazzled in the shimmering river water. Their expressions were cool and composed, undisturbed by the water rolling down their foreheads.
They were Hippopotamus Beamons!
Those among the mercenaries who had knowledge cried hoarsely in despair with their voices nearly broken.
The mercenaries nearby noticed a detail. The strongest Hippopotamus Beamon at the front spit out a complete shrimp shell from its mouth. The shrimp’s antennae were still twitching, but the flesh on its tail had been sucked clean.
"It would taste even better with some wine." This Hippopotamus Beamon muttered in less than fluent Common Human Language, sniffing with its enormous and terrifying nostrils.
"I wonder what human flesh tastes like." This Hippopotamus Beamon smiled, revealing a patch of tender shrimp flesh between its cleaver-like teeth.
This detail drove the mercenaries fallen into the water into an abyss of despair. Anyone facing a Hippopotamus Warrior, with their massive build and weight near half a ton, would only feel their own insignificance and powerlessness.
More than half of the mercenaries gagged in unison at the sight.
Yes, that was because of nervousness and fear.
"Ready your hand axes~~~" The tedium was of course from O’Neal. His cunning beady eyes rolled round and round. Being the most malicious among the Aegean people, he called on his companions to pull out the small hand axes tucked in their shorts.
To the Hippopotamus Poets, they pulled out small hand axes. But to the struggling mercenaries in the river, these appeared as nothing short of siege axes.
A dreadful premonition, like dark clouds before a storm, hung over every mercenary’s heart. Escape! Flee! The clustered mercenaries started swimming desperately. No one wanted to resist anymore, no one had any other thoughts.
"Throw!" With a wide-open mouth, O’Neal gritted his teeth, and used all his strength to throw his hand axe.
The sound of constant splashing spread in all directions with the circle formed by the Hippopotamus Poets at the core, like an exploding Spider Chrysanthemum, producing sprays of waves that lept and rolled at breathtaking speed. These splashes were a natural phenomenon created by the high-speed swing of the short axes through water, similar to the splash made by the fin of a Tiger Shark swishing across the waters.
The sound of flesh being torn echoed again. The mercenaries had previously witnessed the power of the "Birdwing Crossbow Car" and were familiar with this gruesome noise. The overly powerful Beamon warriors, who launched their hand axes at close range, were at least as powerful as the "Birdwing Crossbow Car", if not mightier.
Wherever the tumbling axes, whizzed past, a line of blood wave was formed on the water surface.Such was life, fleeting like the rushing river.
"Haha, you damned guys! Don’t you like our Beamon furs? Don’t you want to kidnap our women? Come and taste my axe!" O’Neal shouted in his thick Beamon-accented Common Human Language while laughing heartily.
In the eyes of the mercenaries, this guy was no different from a demon crawled out from hell.
Once all the hand axes were thrown, the Hippopotami dove back into the blood-red water, only leaving behind large ripples and water marks that indicated their previous existence.
The river surface looked as though it had been minced by an ancient Demon Clan meat grinder, with blood staining the icy chunks floating on the surface.
The remaining mercenaries were lucky. The Hippopotamus Warriors no longer paid them any attention, their next target was the lightly-equipped cavalry and rangers who were swimming across.
Fighting with Aquatic Races in water, especially against the most formidable Hippopotamus of the Bimon Beastmen, anyone could imagine the result. In the Battle of Death Steps, mercenaries could fight back but now they had even lost the right to resist.
This was no longer a war of one plane.
Fairy Dragon Daisy turned her head away, refusing to watch the river any more.
Even if they were Mammoth Warriors, once they got into the water and faced the Hippopotamus Poets, they had no choice but to succumb. Even if they were warriors of the Sea Clan, how many of them would stand a chance against the amphibious Hippopotamus Warriors in water?
This was a battle with no suspense.
Count Totti had the same thought. At this moment, his face looked as if he was having a stroke.
Team leader Jennifer suddenly aged a lot, kneeling on the river bank, watching the sporadic screams from the river in agony. The stones she clutched in her hands had made her palms bleed.
It’s actually Hippopotamus warriors! It’s actually the Haus Clan Hippopotamus! The two great mages, with their weakened bodies, murmured this name in astonishment.
There were only two established aquatic forces among the Beamon, one was the Turtle Warriors of the Motet Tribe, and the other was Frogmen of the Zodanu Clan, all stationed at the Sunset Swamp on the southwestern border. No one would have expected to encounter Hippopotamus Warriors on the Sanggan River. The count was trembling tormentedly while tearing at his meticulous hair.
The beautiful land was just on the other side of the river, but the Sanggan River had already become insurmountable.
This battle has almost been decided, and now it just depends on how minimal the losses could be.
The Light Cavalry and rangers, who were lightly equipped and swimming across the river, had seen the adversities and already fled in retreat. They were smart and scattered in all directions to escape. Although screams of despair continued, they were quite better off compared to the mercenaries who fell off the bamboo rafts and ended up clustered together in the water.
