Chapter 342: Chapter 73: Is Beauty Really a Calamity_5

The remaining scouts braced themselves and broke into the line of the hippopotamus warriors, the symphony of blood and flesh instantly resounded.

Earl Casano was after all a shrewd man. When he made out that these Bimon River Hippo warriors were clad in golden armor and wielding giant hawk-shaped shields, he knew things were going south.

In the entire Bimon Kingdom, apart from the royal guard, no other lord could afford such extravagant armaments for their troops. The sturdy physique of the hippo warriors and their hawk-shaped bronze shields made Earl Casano apprehensive.

Even after Casano made some headway, he couldn’t help glance back, a sight he would remember for the rest of his life.

When heavy infantrymen counter cavalry, they usually drive their heavy shields into the ground, and hold on tight to counter the warhorse’s charging momentum. The scouts lacked long spears for charging, however, when the warhorses picked up speed, the impact was formidable. The scouts all discharged their rotating crossbow cylinders in the split second before they clashed. The solid iron made for short ranged arrows but within fifty yards, they were terrifyingly effective. The sound of crossbow bolts ricocheting off the bronze shields was like a rainstorm, reflecting how terrifying these weapons were.

But the Hippo warriors actually charged straight back, right into the high-speed warhorses. They were besides even taller than the scouts seated on their horses.

All the warhorses crashed like they’re hit a wall, one toppled, all let out a mournful cry and fell to the ground. The scouts’ exquisite riding skills really came into play as four or five of them detached their reins, rolled on the ground, and then stood up, drawing their claymores from their waists.

Despite such a collision, only a few of the Hippo warriors stumbled. Shaking their heads, they nimbly did a kip up, shockingly agile for their large sizes, and stood up again.

This instant, all the hawk-shaped giant shields were lifted, every hippo warrior swung a five-length giant axe, surrounding the scouts. The giant axe that would be long-handled in a human scout’s hand looked like a short hand one in a hippo warrior’s. Earl Casano found that these hippo warriors didn’t feel clumsy or slow with these giant hawk-shaped shields. His heart first filled with amazement and then filled with growing fear.

No matter how exquisite the scouts’ martial arts were, it was impossible to be useful in front of these giant humanoids wielding double-bladed, five-foot-long giant axes. Hippo warriors were of such size that one could hold five scouts. Their giant axes would only evoke one thought among humans – despair.

Earl Casano’s nightmare was far from over. The captured Beimon tribesman was tied to the back of the saddle of his most reliable retainer, now he would regret ever keeping Wolf.

The Beimon tribesman took a bite at the warhorse’s rear end, and with just one bite, the horse’s rear end, which was worth two thousand gold coins, was like a juicy piece of cheese gnawed by a greedy child. The shredded muscle fibers squirted fresh blood.

In pain, the warhorse flailed around, and the retainer immediately fell behind Earl Casano, who was galloping at high speed.

Just as Casano and two other scouts were about to turn their horses to help, a group of swiftly approaching figures quickly closed in. They were now only about two hundred yards away.

Earl Casano was almost mad – it was the fearsome Pier-Race Bearman! Actually, members of the Bearman rank of nobility in the Bimon Kingdom! Could this Felyndula territory be the Bimon Royal Palace? So many Bearmen were guarding it?

What truly made earl Casano’s heart sink was that these bearman were not only sturdy in body, their running speed was as nimble as cats. Although Earl didn’t know why these bearman could run faster than the cavalry, he did understand something - if they stayed any longer, even his bones might not be found.

The two scouts looked dumbfoundedly at the swiftly approaching bearman twirling their gleaming silver long spears. Before they could react, their warhorse’s heads resembled hedgehogs, and they fell to the ground with a deafening thud.

Although Earl Casano’s mare had a pretty fast start and he had decided to keep running, a glistening lance did not spare him. Fortunately, Casano had fastened a steel shield to his saddle. The shield and the lance clashed with a loud "clang" and deep groove was made in the shield, but it had deflected the lance.

The deflected lance scraped past the mare’s backbone, shaving off a strip of mane.

My heaven! My earth! My God! Casano buried his crying, panicked self in the mare’s back, pushing her to the limit with every whip.

What the hell! These are Bimon? There’s a distance of two hundred yards! Two hundred yards ah! At this distance, they can throw spears accurately? Earl Casano dared not look back again. He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to bear it, and would fall from the horse.

After realizing escape was hopeless, three scouts joined back to back, swiftly forming a defensive circular formation. Despite the grim situation, these scouts did not intend to abandon resistance.

Their martial arts skills were indeed sophisticated. True to their fame, they were the strongest scouts, and they have great confidence in themselves.

The combat quickly began. Comparing the martial arts skills of the bear warriors, which had been honed by famous masters and the lord himself, with the human scouts, they were only a slight bit superior.

Gude needed just one thrust of his Vajra halberd, one scout’s throat and weapon were simultaneously penetrated.

Just when Earl Casano thought he had luckily escaped the clutches of disaster, a Frost Snow Pichu Beast, mounted on a Vajra Parrot, flew past him.

Earl Casano was stunned for a moment, then the lofty earl truly believed that he must be hallucinating due to fear.

Amidst the white clouds in the sky, a pair of eyes were fixed on his desperate fleeing figure.
