Chapter 341: Chapter 73: Is Beauty Really a Calamity_4
As the only captive of the battle, the Earl had captured a member of the Beamon tribe. To the eyes of humans, all Bimon Beastmen are uncivilized beasts. Bringing back this rare Beamon man would undoubtedly cause quite a stir.
Of course, such a captive pales in comparison to the stunning beauties of Aegean. Therefore, the Earl was still far from satisfied.
After a long journey, the winding Sanggan River was finally faintly visible on the horizon. Along the way, there were no other Bimon territories. Behind them was the wide Sanggan River. The Earl, Casano, could even imagine the panic and confusion of these poor Bimon Beastmen at the time of the attack.
Earl Casano enjoyed seeing the deep despair and helplessness in the eyes of his captured slaves. Such feelings gave him an overpowering sense of pleasure.
On the way, the captured Beamon man did not satisfy his small wish. His light green pupils were filled with mockery, something the prideful Earl Casano could hardly accept. The closer they got to the Aegean region, the more peculiar the expression on the face of this Wolf officer was.
Just as the Earl was debating whether to cut off this annoying guy’s tail to make a fur collar, he suddenly discovered that inexplicably, he was surrounded.
From all sides, from one or two miles away, there were figures of approaching Bimon Beastmen warriors. Unknowingly, these figures suddenly appeared, catching Earl Casano by surprise.
Could they have been discovered? The Earl quickly dismissed that idea.
On the way through the wilderness, there was no Bimon territory or military station. They were under the flag of a diplomatic mission, and it should not have been discovered this quickly.
Nevertheless, Earl Casano was a veteran Slave Hunter and was familiar with this wilderness. Once he sensed the aggressive momentum of the Bimon Beastmen, he carefully considered his options, drew his last messenger pigeon, wrote a concise report of the situation, requested his brother to expedite his march, and calmly released the pigeon.
In response to the inquiries from his entourage, Earl Casano wisely decided to retreat. The scout’s mission was strictly reconnaissance. The desire to compete with the Bimon Beastmen could soon be fulfilled in upcoming battles.
Like a hunting party of gentlemen, all the scouts followed their lord, spurring their warhorses with the grace of a ceremonial dance step.
All the scouts were riding supreme warhorses. Given the speed of the Bimon Beastmen on foot, it would be challenging to intercept them. Hence, Earl Casano took the time to look back leisurely as he retreated.
The sudden emergence of a Bimon cavalry from the grass nearly knocked Earl Casano off his horse. When did the Bimon Beastmen gain such cunning?
Faced with an assault team of Bimon cavalry comprising mammoths, Earth Badgers, and Giant Cave Bears, all the scouts instantly lost their previous composure. The spurs on their boots dug into the bellies of their sturdy mounts, causing blood to ooze. The sound of a whip swinging didn’t pause for a second as they quickly retreated to the incoming path.
The well-trained Slave Hunter Team was not a disorderly crowd. Everyone reacted in unison and swiftly, galloping away while drawing the crossbow cylinder hanging from the saddle.
Earl Casano couldn’t understand where he had gone wrong, which allowed the Bimon men to notice them. He found it quite strange.
Well-trained warhorses were, after all, warhorses. Once they gained speed, no Bimon mounts could compare. As long as Earl Casano and the scouts broke through the few dozen Bimon Beastmen who had blocked their retreat, they would be safe.
The wilderness was so vast that Earl Casano could easily bypass the Bimon soldiers and escape. However, the inherent stubbornness of young men lead him to make a minor mistake. He thought that once the horses gained speed, with his superb riding skills and excellent protective equipment, he could conveniently break through a blood path and intimidate the Bimon men.
If given a second chance, he certainly wouldn’t make the same mistake, because the enemy he was facing was a team of about thirty Bimon River horsemen.
When the distance was close enough for Casano to see the soldiers’ faces and equipment, he realized with terror his mistake. However, being an outstanding knight, he skillfully turned a wide circle with his superior mount and excellent riding skills and slipped away from the side.
The warhorse under Earl Casano came from the Porto Kingdom, renowned in the vast plain of Kalimdo for its excellent horses - the Nightmare Horse. This type of horse was the offspring of the "Nightmare", mounts of the Demon Clan knights left behind on the Aegean Continent after the Great God-Devil War and mated with wild horses.
Although the Nightmare Horse didn’t inherit the ability to have burning hooves like the "Nightmare", its speed and responsiveness were first-class. A single Nightmare Horse cost an astonishing ten thousand gold coins.
Only three of the best riders among the scouts could barely keep up with the rapid pace set by this valuable horse. The remaining scouts, who were ready to charge, seemed unable to adapt all of a sudden. One of the scouts who tried to follow his master’s direction, due to a too sharp turn, twisted his horse’s leg and fell heavily on the ground, rolling into a ball.
