Chapter 277: Chapter 53 - Well-trained Robber_2

This pattern seemed a bit abstract, Liu was stunned and took a while to understand its implications.

"Judging by your flag, you’re from Razor Mountain Goblin Bandit Tribe, aren’t you?" Liu asked the gnome knight incredulously.

What on earth? Instead of a typical invasion, four prospective sons-in-law? Liu was utterly baffled.

"Sir, I am from the Razor Mountain Goblin Kingdom in the Donau Wasteland, not the goblin tribe you mentioned. I am a noble Gnome Knight, recognized by His Majesty Deko III of the Goblin Kingdom," the Gnome Knight corrected Liu once again.

"So the Goblin Tribe has become a Goblin Kingdom?" Liu barely managed to hold back his laughter, "Salute to you, my dear knight! I am Baron Richard, the Feilengcui Lord of the Bimon Kingdom. What brings you and your army here?"

His Majesty Deko III, King of the Goblin Kingdom, officially declares to the Lord of Bimon that we will attack your territory in one hour," the Gnome Knight solemnly pulled a letter made of birch bark from his chest plate and handed it to Liu, "This is a declaration of war. You can either retreat north of the Sanggan River or surrender. The land south of Sanggan River doesn’t belong to you, Bimon."

"Are you insane?" Liu pinched his nose and circled the Goblin Knight thrice. "You’re bandits, after all. How on earth did you transform into a Goblin Kingdom? And even started playing out this human declaration of war charade?"

"The Wasteland belongs to goblins, not Bimon. If you want to live on this land, you can choose to join our Gnome Kingdom," the Gnome Knight turned his horse around and left arrogantly.

"Should we detain these goblins?" Bellamy ran from the bamboo forest and asked.

A large group of militia and vassal fighters, dividing the bamboo leaves, stood at the edge of the bamboo forest, pointing curiously at the four departing goblin knights.

"Bellamy, have you gone mad too?" Liu quickly tore the birch bark letter into shreds, "Battle between countries should not harm the messenger. If we capture those who deliver the message, does it mean our qualities are below than that of these goblin bandits?"

"Why has even a goblin bandit started imitating human behavior, even delivering a declaration of war?" Ning Yu was filled with confusion.

"My head is in a whirl too. I am absolutely baffled." Liu sprinkled the shredded birch bark in the air, "I only know one thing: they are no longer a bandit gang who would rashly rush forward and retreat at the first sign of resistance."

"It’s rare for a goblin to become a knight." Avril said with laughter, "After coming to the Wasteland, I have seen it all."

"This battle will be tough." Cui Beixi said to Liu with a serious face.

"Who knows? A goblin tribe suddenly transformed into a Goblin Kingdom. That’s shocking enough, not to mention the declaration of enemies before battle." Liu scratched his head, his dandruff flying about. "These goblins seem well-trained, even more disciplined than our soldiers."

"There should be no compromise with bandits, Richard. Prepare for battle!" Instructor Cui Beixi advised.

"There’s not much to prepare." Liu turned back to look at the militia, "Are we, the Feilengcui militia, always ready for battle?"

"Yes!" The militias bellowed, but the vassal fighters were not as enthusiastic, and the slaves remained silent.

A twenty-mile journey took the bandit’s army about two hours. When they came into view on the plain before the Red Earth Highland, Liu successfully carved out several more scrolls. The ground was covered by piles of white shavings.

Waiting was boring, especially when the other side had to travel twenty to thirty miles. With nothing better to do, Liu busied himself with carving his War Song Scrolls.

When the bandits’ "V" formation revealed about six hundred yards away from Liu, the solid attack formation sent a chill down the spines of most of the Feilengcui soldiers.

Compared to the Southern Border battlefield, the army of the cold weapon era was more awe-inspiring. Liu was familiar with the mobilization of large troops, but it was his first time to see so many soldiers lined up before him on such a massive scale.

"It’s a charging formation." Vieri cautioned his boss.

At the forefront of the bandits’ army was a line of neatly arranged Gnome warriors with wooden shields. These enormous shields were made of sturdy planks board, embellished by gleaming bronze rivets under the sun. They were so heavy that four gnome soldiers were needed to move them around.

The line of shields would reach two blades tall if made upright.

"These are made to deal with us, but our Mammoth Cavalry fears nothing, not even steel shields." Korina laughed crazily.

"Bandits became smart indeed. Goblins are truly the smartest race." Liu muttered without raising his head.

Inside the slowly moving formation of the bandit’s army, giant goblin officers looked quite prominent among the gnome soldiers who were generally around one blade and a half in height. Behind them were weirdly shaped bandits, ranging from wild bandits with ferocious faces resembling baboons, to ogres, and even a Hill Giant with a wooden club and a shield.
