Chapter 223: Chapter 32: Emerald of the Wasteland_3
Three giant Golden Figures, bright as sunlight, appeared before the slaves. A group of Bear Goblins plopped hard onto a pool of blood, nearly scared out of their wit.
The ogres weren’t faring much better, each like a Larza Beast in a blizzard, trying to evade the intimidating gaze of Stormrage.
The clinking and clanking Golden Figures clearly expressed Stormrage’s irritable mood. The ogres’ eyes moved mechanically, like wound-up pendulum clocks, following the figures’ movements.
"We can birth many children, they will be strong warriors," a female ogre nervously said.
"Is that supposed to be a special ability?" Stormrage pondered for a moment before turning to Gude the Panda, "Interested?"
Gude tumbled to the ground, swallowing hard. He got up with a dejected look and said, "My Lord, if you want me to die, just hand me a knife, I’ll cut my own throat."
"What about you, handsome Bellamy?" Stormrage turned to the dashing golden-haired Mastiff Man.
Bellamy retched dry.
All the warriors avoided the Overlord’s supposedly ’friendly’ inquiry.
"You’re all good-for-nothings!" Stormrage cursed. Then he remembered that he had a male ogre under his command. "Nevermind, Karu, they are all yours."
"I’m more than happy to serve you, my Lord!" Karu’s eyes welled up. He had been waiting for this moment eagerly.
He clung onto Stormrage’s boots, showering them with kisses and licks; he made them sparkly clean.
All the male ogres were dead. There were so many female ogres! Karu was plunged into deep, blissful dilemma.
"While we’re at it, let’s finish off the White Crow Wildman Tribe too, my Lord!" An excited Karu said. The battle had boosted Karu’s confidence, he felt he could afford a few more female Wildwoman companions.
"Great! Brave Karu, on behalf of the Feilengcui Lord, you shall defeat them!" Stormrage teased willingly. He knew that the Wildman tribe had thousands of warriors and had connections with humans. It was the afternoon already, there was no way to fight another war far away with so many captives.
"Maybe we should call it a day, it’s getting late. Let’s head back," a frightened Karu’s face turned pale. Attacking the Wildman tribe by himself, even with the heart of Pier and the guts of Wolf, he wouldn’t dare.
The Pandas pulled out their wine skins, bit off the stoppers, and splashed the strong liquor onto their tents.
"You light it yourselves." The Mastiff People drove the ogres to light the torches themselves and burn down the animal skin tents. Large teardrops fell from the ogres’ faces, and in them, were reflected the flames of their burning homes.
A few Bear Goblins watched from afar, maliciously happy with the ogres’ misfortune.
Seeing the ogres’ bad luck, the Goblins felt elated. Misfortune and happiness are relative. The Goblins now felt that their status had suddenly elevated.
Stormrage looked at the five massive elephants he had brought along and laughed bitterly. Today’s loot was bountiful to a fault; they had gotten nothing after a half-day’s work.
He wouldn’t leave empty-handed. He ordered the ogres to dig out the stone goddess statue that held a blooming flower on a tray. He let the Bear Goblins and the ogres each carry a wild vine, dragging the statue home. The two massive elephants were also designated for this heavy-duty task.
Under Liu Zhenhan’s deliberate arrangement, Karu began to walk and talk about the glorious achievements of the overlord with the ogre slaves, while the bear goblins joined them in pulling the ropes. The discussion was filled with the bear goblins’ tales of bloody hardship, sending chills down the spines of the ogres.
"As long as you obey, our overlord is actually quite easy to get along with. And another little secret to tell you, our slave rations are all prepared by the Hobbit Halfling chef," Karu said with a hint of mystery in his voice.
Wow...many of the slaves started drooling. A Hobbit Halfling slave chef! This lord sure knows luxury.
This guy sure knows how to exaggerate. The bear goblins murmured, we just drank the northwest wind all morning.
"The key is to obey! No resistance! If you don’t resist, you get some food and drink. If you resist, you lose your life. Look at me, see how well I’m doing? This is the result of obedience!" Karu began to attempt to persuade them, proudly displaying his fancy clothes.
The journey was truly long. Under the urging of the whip, the slaves put all their strength into pulling the massive statue, leaving long scratches on the road from the heavy statue.
Behind them were three gigantic mammoths. The slaves didn’t dare to look back. There were a few slaves who were injured and lacked the strength to pull. They had moved to the side of the road to take a rest, only to be flattened by the mammoths. This event gave all the other slaves a sudden surge of strength.
Blood and tears were shed the entire way.
When they passed Koson Wilderness, as Liu Zhenhan had anticipated, the bear goblins who had been left behind had indeed run away.
Liu Zhenhan’s triumphant laughter shook the earth.
If these slaves didn’t escape, Liu Zhenhan would indeed be at a loss. This business with no initial cost wasn’t as profitable as he had imagined.
When the Red Earth Highland and the red earth-shoots came into view from the horizon, the ogre slaves got to see the unfortunate ones from yesterday—they who had been delivered spine-crushing blows—the poor bear goblins lay far away in a meadow, still gasping and groaning. A large swarm of vultures and ravens surrounded them, taking occasional pecks.
"Why do these bear goblins on the ground have such a strong sweet fragrance? Goblins smell the worst, don’t they?" A timid ogre sniffed and asked his leader Karu. Although they were numerous, the statue they pulled was simply too large and everyone was exhausted. The slaves were extremely hungry and were extremely sensitive to any aroma.
This racially discriminatory remark almost started a conflict between the bear goblins and the ogres. If it weren’t for the watchful gaze of the panda warriors and the mastiff people, the bear goblins would have burst out swearing.
"Obischillaci!" Karu immediately suppressed the severe discontent among the bear goblins with hushed tones, "You idiots! Do you know what that scent is? It’s sweet Jamaican rum! The overlord smears this rum on their wounds. Ants will bore into their wounds and bite them. Didn’t you hear the screaming last night... The screams are so horrifying that even the cave wolves dare not drag them away!"
At these words, the slaves shivered collectively, and pulled even harder.
Liu Zhenhan almost thought he had gone to the wrong place. Is this still Feilengcui? If it wasn’t for the towering Red Earth Highland still being so noticeable, Liu Zhenhan would hardly dare to recognize it.
Not only him, but the slaves, pandas, and mastiff people were all stunned.
