Chapter 217: Chapter 30 A Little Lesson_2

Because of the food issue, Liu Zhenhan initially intended to abandon all the little bear goblins in the wilderness, taking only the female bear goblins back as spoils of war. Nevertheless, he found himself unable to make such a cruel decision.

He simply couldn’t bear to leave these goblins, some of whom had noses streaming with snot, others still in their infancy.

In the tribe of Kosan bear goblins, he found a few human slaves, skinny as sticks. These slaves, tortured to the point of lifelessness, greeted Liu Zhenhan’s inspection with a listless look.

Unsatisfied with these meager gains, Liu Zhenhan decided to seize the day, resting briefly before setting his sights on his next targets for plunder — the Rock Johnson Ogre Tribe, located some sixty miles away.

Leaving more than a dozen of bear goblins to guard the new captives, Liu Zhenhan continued his journey with his troops.

"Aren’t you afraid they might escape? Should I leave a few people to watch them?" Gude asked quietly.

"Only a fool wouldn’t escape!" Liu Zhenhan laughed, "I’m actually giving them a chance to escape. That way, I save the money I would have used to feed them."

Bandit hideouts were always secreted away in the most hidden spots, impossible to find without an insider’s help.

The Rock Johnson Ogre Tribe was nestled amidst a massive stone formation, resembling something akin to a chessboard in disarray. The formation was made of dozens of huge stone pillars, arranged in an intricate way as if following a specific order.

Each of the stone pillars was as thick as a small hill, but they looked like jade that had been polished over a long time — very smooth and round. They seemed to have been sculpted for ages, covered in peculiar faces with eyes and noses, but radiating an inexplicable strangeness.

Each stone face looked like a traveler seeking home, gazing towards the horizon.

Some of the stone faces even had hats on them, also made of stone. The hats gently swayed back and forth when the wind blew.

The ground here was half-exposed with red rocks. When stepped on, the ground would make a crunch sound as the rubble fell.

Liu Zhenhan had the mammoths stop half a mile away from the ogre tribe’s hideout, fearing their massive size and weight might alert the robbers.

The tall tents made of beast skin were hidden within the stone formation, mushrooming like flowers in bloom.

The ogres lived differently from other bandits. Each ogre family had ten to twenty female ogres, but there would only ever be one male ogre, a troll. The ogres would band together to drive away other bandits who tried to seize their territory, but the rest of the time they focused on tending to their own families, ignoring each other.

This was an extremely selfish race, according to Liu Zhenhan.

Karu agreed with his lord’s analysis and nodded enthusiastically.

In the middle of the tents, there was a huge stone statue that was embedded at an angle in the rocks and soil. The statue exposed above the ground was at least three or four meters high. It was beautifully carved, showcasing an immense craftsmanship. It presumably represented a goddess worshipped by an ancient race. Her beautiful face bore signs of weathering over the centuries, covered with countless cobweb-like cracks. The lotus-shaped tray held high in her hand was missing one edge. Wild grapevines had twined around her pale, sculpted body.

Some dried animal skins and slabs of meat that looked like hind legs hung on the lotus-shaped tray of the stone statue.

This ogre tribe was so confident that they didn’t even have guards posted. Only a few young ogres were playing haphazardly outside.

Whether it was a compliment or a sarcasm, Liu Zhenhan muttered: "Bullshit!"

Seeing no sentinels, the bear goblins did not wait for their leader’s command. Led by Karu, they swarmed forward, targeting the young ogres.

After assaulting the ogre toddlers who had been playing hide-and-seek, their shrieks unveiled their ambush. The sound of the bone whistle echoed in the stone formation, raising echoes.

Swarms of enraged two-headed ogres poured out from about twenty tents. The ogres, standing about three meters tall, were definitely more than a match for the bear goblins. Over a hundred bear goblins shrank back in front of the three to four hundred ogres surging towards them.

If not for the goblins that had dropped their clubs and ran being killed on the spot by the panda soldiers’ spears, the bear goblins would have surely collapsed. Under the horrendous pressure that retreating meant certain death, the bear goblins reluctantly held their ground. It was terrifying! Those panda soldiers wielding spears seemed more daunting than the ogres. Moreover, their cruel overlord was watching from behind, and the piglet he held in his arms sent chills down their spines.

Weighing their options, the bear goblins gritted their teeth and confronted the surging ogres.

The disparity in numbers and strength caused the bear goblins to fall back bit by bit. There was a constant fall of goblins under the ogres’ clubs, ensuing in a wail of screams.

Continually chugging the Halfling chef’s specially brewed high-proof rum, the pandas watched the battlefield with piercing eyes. With every gulp of the strong liquor, the hair on their bodies bristled.
