Boiling Beast Bloodline -
Chapter 202 - 13_1
Chapter 202: Chapter 13_1
"Give me ten seconds!" Baojia, who had accurately assessed the entire team’s status, shouted loudly, instilling a bit of courage into the panicked individuals. The monster they were facing was powerful, but they could still barely hold their ground against it for a short period.
The Dungeon Archers sped up their spear-throwing as much as possible, still aiming for the eyes of the Moria leech. Taking advantage of the remote fire power distraction, the silver-eyed ones were given a few remaining frenzied magic buffs from the Lich. The ladies, shouting out vigorously, brandished their long swords and charged towards the giant tentacles. The Liches, who had exhausted their mana, began to rummage through their pockets, trying to find a few Shell Coins to then throw far away, distracting the monster’s attention.
No one knew what Baojia planned to do. However, as the captain of the adventure team, he had never disappointed his team before, and everyone believed this time would be no exception.
With that thought, the female members displayed astonishing combat power under adversity. They looked as if they could persist not for just ten seconds, but maybe even ten more minutes.
At this moment, Baojia concentrated all his mental power, first retracting the whip, smeared with the blood of the small Moria leech, back into its original form of a bow. He then held his jade violin with his left hand, carefully tuning each crystal string of the violin.
After these preparations, Baojia took a deep breath, slightly raised his head, and placed the violin smoothly against his left collarbone. Anyone who knew a bit about music would recognize that this was the standard position to create resonance between the violin and the body.
Holding the bow with his right hand, he placed it perpendicularly above the strings. Then, he drew out the first note...
At that moment, Baojia was facing the ugly, giant bald monster in the water. Even though his melody was soothing and concentrated, conveying nothing unusual to his companions, the Moria leech facing him seemed to be impacted heavily by the first note and roared in anger once more.
Unfazed by the monster’s rage, Baojia quickly found the perfect playing position after a few test songs and immersed himself in the performance. This all took place in less than ten seconds.
A visible battle of mental powers began between Baojia and the mutant Moria leech, with brilliant sparks bursting out from the invisible forces colliding.
As mentioned earlier, Baojia hadn’t summoned his nightmare mount yet; he had a great deal of mental power but few magical means to utilize or attack with. Perhaps by fate, from the time he was a child, when he used to sneak out with Bauman to sing, he gradually gained a special understanding of music.
After Bauman left, he started investing all his energy into the study of music and mental power out of loneliness and boredom.
Strictly speaking, silver-eyed beings are more adept at close combat. Although they excel in terms of mental power, they typically only manage to use it through techniques learned from their nightmare mounts. Apart from chanting summoning techniques during adulthood, silver-eyed beings without their mounts seemed to only serve as meat shields. This fact, taken for granted by others, was rather ridiculous to Baojia.
Baojia, as a young boy, was no different from ordinary fallen nobles; he was alarmingly sensitive and extremely prideful. He did not want to stake his future on the potential mount that could be summoned from another dimension—
Even if he could summon a humanoid nightmare, what of it?
Extract mental power and evolve into a Winged Knight?
What’s different between those gains that come without effort and the noble status he was born with?
While Baojia could not change the fact that he was born with silver eyes, he could at least choose his lifestyle. Giving up armor and sword and shield and studying musical magic were choices he made himself.
The Zorro adventure team was created under such circumstances, and Baojia’s efforts weren’t fruitless. After countless experiments and practical battles, he found that the violin was the most suitable instrument. Legend has it that in Aegean invaders’ Beamon tribe, their priests could use various instruments to amplify their song power.
In today’s exceptional situation, defeating the enemy purely with force was impossible. Relying on the mental attack released by playing the violin, this is the only way out Baojia could think of.
The team members had expended a great deal of energy dealing with the small Moria leeches, and now he was the only one who could launch a similar attack. The surge of mental power when the giant leech appeared had reminded him. The Demon God, Nai’aozu, was fair. Even though the mutated beast before them possessed both physical and magical prowess, it would still have weaknesses. At least in terms of magical control, the giant Moria leech was much stronger than the smaller ones, but compared to other aspects, the increase in power was not proportional.
If mental attacks were ineffective against this creature, then it would be a foregone conclusion that Zorro’s team would be wiped out here.
Fortunately, this most tragic situation did not occur.
The Moria leech in the pool had been dominating, and after regaining the small carcass, it had slowly begun to move towards the shore. The female members of Zorro’s team were brave warriors but were still retreating under pressure.
Everything changed after the sound of Baojia’s violin began to fill the air.
The giant leech’s body shook violently, a look of disbelief apparent in its basin-sized eyes. Its launches of ice crystals almost instantaneously ceased. Then, within a matter of seconds, the swings of its dozens of tentacles also slowed down significantly, and its hit rate became erratic. Though it tried to reach out towards Baojia, it mostly missed. On the occasion it was close to him, it was intercepted by the silver-eyed women who had quickly caught on.
The Moria leech instinctively hated the sharp sound of the violin, which was more annoying to it than the screeching noise produced by ice scraping against ice. Moreover, Baojia’s violin carried his mental power. This force moved with the violin’s sound, easily penetrating the giant Moria leech’s brain. Even if it swung all twenty of its tentacles to block it, it was utterly futile.
Actually, it was quite simple to avoid this kind of attack. It could just dive and swim away in the pool. Although it might still hear some sound under the water, sound traveled much more difficultly in water than in air, and the accompanying mental power would be the same.
However, this giant mutated Moria leech had no intention of retreating. Instead, it preferred to counter Baojia with a low roar. Clearly, the beast that Zorro’s team had killed was its offspring. This blood feud was irreconcilable, and even if Baojia’s silver-eyed attack was peculiar, it had to kill all the culprits.
On Baojia’s end, the only drawback of amplifying mental power through an instrument was that his actual mental attacks were virtually non-existent without the aid of his violin. While he was immersed in his performance, he was unable to move. He tried to signal the female members with his eyes to leave first, but everyone was wise enough not to leave him.
The beast’s tentacles occasionally struck accurately. If everyone left, the stalemate would soon be over. Though Baojia’s violin could suppress the Moria leech’s roars, its huge body size meant that the mental attack couldn’t inflict much actual damage.
Simultaneously, during this bizarre confrontation, the giant beast also began to focus its mental power into its roars, as it found that doing so seemed to lighten the attack of the sharp sound. Although Moria leech lacked natural talent in this regard, it was still much stronger than being completely defenseless at the start.
Given this, Baojia’s countenance darkened. He had so recently fought a fierce battle. Even if he could withstand mentally, he would probably not last long physically. All the combatants of the entire expedition team were concentrated here. Even if they divided their forces to ask for help now, they might be too late. In his impatience, he unintentionally hit a few sour notes. The mutated leech also took advantage of these mistakes and swung its tentacles a few times.
He tried to retreat slowly without affecting his violin performance, but the enemy quickly saw through his intention. Just as Baojia had backed up only a meter or two, the giant mutated leech suddenly gave up its roars and began to desperately shoot ice crystals at the shore again.
Caught by surprise, both sides were thrown into disarray, despite the evident discomfort of the giant beast. The female silver-eyed warriors shielding Baojia were nearly hit. In other words, neither side gained anything. Given this, if Baojia aimed to escape like this, he was likely to be met with full-scale magical bombardment from the other side. And with the current combat capability of Zorro’s team, they might not be able to withstand it.
Similarly, if the mutated Moria leech wanted to move towards the shore again, Baojia would increase the output of his violin sound and mental power. The beast could usually only persist for a few seconds before it had to hurry back and submerge its hearing organs under the water.
Thus, the situation, again, fell into a stalemate. Both parties became increasingly impatient, yet there seemed to be no way to break the deadlock.
The roars of the giant Moria leech became lower, but the volume did not decrease. Baojia’s right hand, which had not stopped moving the violin bow, was beginning to tire. To him, killing the small leech previously had taken a major toll.
The scales of victory, against the unwillingness of all members of Zorro’s team, began to tip even more towards the opposition.
