Chapter 1592: Chapter 492: Poison Fog Peach Blossoms {Part 2}

"How did it come to this?! Damn it! We haven’t even started fighting the Demon Clan, and we’re already fighting among ourselves." Richard was utterly exasperated. "Elise, here’s the deal: take your people and retreat to the Chesang Continent. I need to be responsible for you and also for the God of War!"

"I don’t have the habit of running away from the battlefield!" the Aegean Flower retorted indignantly. Though still sulking, her tone softened slightly—a sign of someone with at least a sliver of moral compass.

"Hold on, big brother! The Magic Protector is your mage team, right? Can I form my own mage squad as well?" Kaka, the baby-faced rascal, chimed in with a sly grin. "I heard from the sister-in-law that you’re planning on building a magic teleportation array between the Hundred Thousand Mountains and Florence. I want to recruit personnel and establish a Magic Assault Unit! The Dubin people have mastered the art of counter-magic gun chants! Heh heh, I want to be a captain too!"

"Sort it out with your sister-in-law when you two get back home. Get her to allocate you some budget and adjust the equipment for you." Richard was growing visibly irritated. "Ugh! Now’s not the time for this. The critical thing is figuring out the composition of the Demon World’s poison mist; otherwise, where on earth am I supposed to find a solution for the ’Fog Hidden Pearl’?"

"That’s simple." Elise pointed a finger directly at the Mermaid Wei Zhi lying on the bed. "You’ve got a local expert right there. Why not just ask her?"

"Wait a minute!" Avril stopped the Mermaid from speaking and turned to the Aegean Flower with a mischievous smile. "I distinctly recall hearing you, young lady, mention that if Richard could find a solution, you’d let him do anything he wants to you. Did I hear that wrong?"

"Uh..." Elise hesitated, stumbling over her words. "Well...that..."

"Scared, are you?" The Mermaid Princess’s face was filled with mockery.

"Scared? Scared of what!" the Aegean Flower fumbled angrily, stumbling over her words once more. "Whatever he wants, I’ll do! As long as he can find a solution!"

"Excellent!" Avril nodded in satisfaction. "I trust the promise of an Upper Elf. Richard, go ahead and ask."

"The toxin components of the fog are highly complex. Land races accidentally entering the sea—even with top-notch resistance—will find it impossible to stay in the water for long. Both the gas they breathe and the mist-like water vapor clinging to their bodies contain deadly poison!" Mermaid Wei Zhi shared everything she knew with Richard. "Since we grew up in the sea, we’ve never deeply studied the poison mist. That’s all I know; that’s pretty much it."

"Good God." Richard immediately thought of mustard gas. This poison mist wasn’t ordinary; it could attack through inhalation or skin absorption. Gas masks alone wouldn’t cut it—hazmat suits would be needed too! Expecting him to develop functional activated carbon gas masks and hazmat suits with existing equipment within six months was like asking for the moon—it’d be easier to just kill him.

With his level of ingenuity, the best Richard could come up with was soaking a rag in urine and covering his nose—a feeble peasant fix. But war wasn’t child’s play, and relying on such a primitive method to fend off poison mist would be pure madness.

"To combat gas-dispersed poison mist, the best approach is fire attacks to accelerate its evaporation!" Elise couldn’t help but chime in with a suggestion.

"I approve of your brilliant logic!" Richard grinned mysteriously. "Flower Queen Your Highness, honestly, ever since my first encounter with the Demon Clan, I’ve been pondering how to combat the ’Undead Scourge’ in the future! Now it seems that using plague-fighting techniques against the poison mist isn’t a bad approach!"

"Are you serious?" Kaka and Elise both looked skeptical. "You’ve got a way to deal with the ’Undead Scourge’?"

"You two haven’t known Richard long enough. When he says he has a solution, he really does." Avril looked visibly annoyed by their doubt.

"Out with it then." Elise, believing she already knew enough about Florence, urged him to explain. While Florence’s resources were indeed impressive, not even the prized four supreme Dragon Balls had the power to nullify toxins.

"Actually, it doesn’t require anything extraordinary—just ’Fragrant Beans.’" Richard chuckled deviously. "The fruit of the Thousand-leaf Nymphaea, ’Fragrant Beans,’ generates a purified oxygen layer around the body when worn, absorbing any impurities and converting them into pure oxygen! In essence, ’Fragrant Beans’ function similarly to ’Harmonious Pearl’ on land, though they fall short in other environments. I initially planned to use them to combat the ’Undead Scourge’!"

"You mean the red beans the Kunke tribe’s stinky skunks always carry around?" Elise looked utterly amazed. "How could they have such an obscure use? That’s incredible!"

"The mysteries of life are beyond our full comprehension! The Mirror Flower is proof of that, and so is the Thousand-leaf Nymphaea!" Richard gestured theatrically like a charlatan priest. "Plants naturally have oxygen-purification properties; the ’Fragrant Bean’ just happens to be more exaggerated. No need to be surprised!"

"I’m only familiar with the flowers, not the fruit." Elise shrugged, feigning nonchalance.

"With the Life Spring that Lucian trades to us for Lotus Silk, mass-producing ’Fragrant Beans’ won’t be difficult! One Thousand-leaf Nymphaea can yield thousands!" Avril smiled proudly, clearly proud of her Richard.

"Let me finish explaining! The toxic mist doesn’t just consist of air—Wei Zhi mentioned it also contains significant amounts of poisonous water vapor. This means toxins can still seep in through water vapor on the skin, while the ’Fragrant Bean’ can only ensure safe breathing and won’t fully protect against other avenues of exposure!" Richard continued. "So, to combat such poison mist, we’ll still need thick clothing! Of course, as you suggested, we’ll also need strong flames—whether bonfires or magic—to evaporate the mist quickly!"

"Respiratory poisoning is the real problem! Toxins on the skin won’t kill as quickly!" The Aegean Flower exhaled deeply, her admiration evident. "Richard, you’re amazing. I didn’t expect such a tough issue to be resolved with just a few words from you!"

"Don’t put me on a pedestal!" Richard quickly waved his hands dismissively. "Back in Kalimantan, when conducting city-clearing operations, I decided to stop transporting supplies out of fear that soldiers inhaling the stench of corpses would lead to plague outbreaks. But the Kunke tribe’s skunks told Ning Yu to inform me that as long as they carried ’Fragrant Beans,’ the purified oxygen would prevent them from contracting the plague. The knowledge to use ’Fragrant Beans’ here ultimately came from their insight and Wei Zhi’s detailed analysis."

"Small individuals can change history, but only when pushed forward by great individuals." Elise’s sparkling eyes betrayed her growing admiration for Richard. "I take back my earlier insults!"

"Let me finish! To fully guard against poison mist, thick clothing alone won’t suffice. We also need to dig tunnel networks to shelter civilians and preserve resources if necessary! Such mist will undoubtedly contaminate food and water supplies, making tunnels a great refuge!" Richard grew increasingly confident under the approving gaze of the Aegean Flower. A lovely woman’s admiring look is, after all, every man’s best motivator.

"I can also help you concoct antidotes, though finding all the ingredients might be tricky." Mermaid Wei Zhi added, further enhancing the plan.

"A healer amidst us—our Florence has one more medical expert!" Avril clapped enthusiastically in celebration.

"Richard, I must admit, why are you so well-versed in combating poison mist? It’s curious..." Elise tilted her head, scrutinizing him. "Could it be that you’ve faced something similar before?"

"The battles I’ve experienced—describing them would scare you to death!" Richard’s gaze darkened, his lips curling into a bitter smile. Those battles had cost him his family: his brother, his sister, his mother—they were all lost to him due to that war.

To Elise, however, his words sounded a tad arrogant; after all, the Aegean Flower herself had witnessed the chaos of armies numbering millions tearing into one another.

Whether he was bluffing or not only Richard knew for sure.

Though he hadn’t yet faced truly epic battles on the Aegean Continent, Richard had experienced skirmishes involving tens of thousands. To him, they felt a little like child’s play.

Cold weapon warfare may be brutal, direct, and bloody, but compared to the shrapnel-laden Southern Border battlefield, it lacked the sheer ferocity of modern firepower. Richard vividly remembered his first encounter using the Double-powder Gourd against Dorott mercenaries—their desperation and chaos were unforgettable!

He, too, had once been terrified when witnessing the engulfing firepower of concentrated artillery barrages obliterating jungles, the hallmark of modern hot warfare—an era where no one could predict how they’d die the next moment!

Even a Banilou Warrior, transported to such a theater, couldn’t endure a stray 7.62mm bullet.

The heroic figures who charged forward on-screen after getting shot were pure fiction. A single bullet from a military rifle to the thigh would result in the limb being blown apart, leading to death if blood loss wasn’t staunched—and that’s just from conventional weapons!

If one were to substitute combat units, the wars Richard had fought were akin to countless Aegean magicians duking it out in chaotic magical duels. The only difference was that they didn’t wield staffs or magic crystals.

"You should document every precaution and plan on paper so others can reference it! Florence’s two additional supply bases don’t require such measures, but the rest of Aegean Continent needs to learn how to survive under the threat of poison mist!" Avril smiled meaningfully at Elise, then beamed at Richard. "This knowledge could save countless lives."

"Don’t be hasty, young lady." Avril smirked devilishly as she turned to the Aegean Flower. "You promised—if Richard solved the poison mist problem, you’d do whatever he asked."

"What do you mean?" Elise looked visibly nervous, seemingly guessing where the Mermaid was going with this.

"Miss Elise, I don’t mean much. Just accompany Richard for a single night." Avril’s words didn’t surprise either Richard or Elise in the least.
