Chapter 1591: Chapter 491: Peach Blossom Poison Fog (Part 3)
Kaka and Elise exchanged a glance and sighed in unison.
The great schism of the Elves had spanned thousands of years. The divisions among them were self-evident, and expecting the proud and isolated Elves to set aside their egos and unite completely within half a year? That would only happen if the Moon Goddess Eruni herself descended upon them!
Although Elise planned to announce her return to the world next month with the "Broad Cold Moon Shadow Ritual," the mountains were high and the waters vast. Aside from a few impulsive zealots, which old veteran would abandon their foundation and make the long journey to pledge allegiance to her? No one in their right mind would have such lofty expectations!
"It’s such a pity! If only we were like the Lich clan, able to transform into Undead creatures through a ritual! Then we wouldn’t have to fear anything at all—everyone could turn into Undead, and let’s see who they manage to poison!" Kaka gritted his teeth, his tone full of regret, as if blaming himself for being a Druid instead of an Undead immune to poison.
"They have the Mist Concealment, and we have the Thunder Cache! At most, both sides can agree not to use these two pearls!" Elise’s beautiful eyes twinkled as she fixed her gaze on Old Liu, proposing a most reluctant solution.
The proposal sounded somewhat laughable at first, but in fact, during the ancient War of Gods and Demons, the Demon Clan and the Aegean had reached a similar verbal agreement—this was the infamous "Forbidden Curse Non-Proliferation Pact"!
Even to this day, the unwritten rule of "Forbidden Curse Non-Proliferation" was voluntarily observed by warring parties in major conflicts. This wasn’t due to an abundance of gentlemen in the world. On the contrary, war fanatics and bloodthirsty killers had always been the mainstream in the Aegean’s wars. The ultimate reason this rule was maintained boiled down to three points:
First: Magic Tutors and Saint Chiao-level Mages were exceedingly rare across the continent. Most of them were recluses, dedicated to the mysteries of magic. It wasn’t as though a king or commander could find someone to unleash a Forbidden Curse on a whim.
Second: Sub-Saints and Saint-level Mages, well-read and broad-minded, would only resort to a Forbidden Curse as an absolute last resort. Their adherence to the natural balance made the destructive capacity of Forbidden Curses diametrically opposed to their beliefs.
Third: It was rumored that releasing a Forbidden Curse involved defying the natural order and would severely shorten a Mage’s lifespan. This rumor stemmed from folklore and leaned toward idealism, but there was some truth in it—the risk to a Mage while chanting and summoning a Forbidden Curse was indeed extreme. A single slip could lead to immediate death!
The power of the Mist Concealment and Thunder Cache pearls was on par with large-scale Forbidden Curses. Elise’s proposal wasn’t entirely without merit, but this ignorant Sif Elf likely didn’t realize a certain fact—after her "sacrifice" back then, the three Dreadlords of the Demon Clan combined forces to unleash the super Forbidden Curse, "Land Sink Technique," which drowned the Moon Elves along with their territory into the seas!
Once one of the warring sides suffered a catastrophic defeat, and its adversaries held the ability to release a Forbidden Curse, the "Forbidden Curse Non-Proliferation" rule became nothing but a pipe dream!
"Absolutely not!" Liu Zhenshake immediately shook his head and rejected the suggestion. "Before the war even began, the Demon Clan systematically eliminated our Aegean Saint-level Mages to neutralize the threat of Forbidden Curses! Even if they offered to forego using the Mist Concealment Pearl, I would never relinquish the Thunder Cache Pearl! In terms of offensive capability, Thunder Cache is more powerful; Mist Concealment merely has a broader area of effect!"
"It’s all your fault. If you could, with your kingly prowess, cast a Forbidden Curse, one would topple an army of a hundred thousand! With the support of the Spring of Elements, what are the Demon Clan and the Sea Clan in comparison? Mist Concealment Pearl? Just a bauble!" Elise’s remark nearly choked Liu Zhenshake to death.
"Elise, why blame the bed when you can’t sleep well?" Avril chuckled uncontrollably. Had anyone else criticized Richard so nonsensically, she would’ve smashed them with a "Wave Slash" to knock some sense into them. However, the Aegean Flower’s temperament was oddly in tune with her own—it was hard to hold a grudge.
"Avril, don’t talk nonsense. My elder brother is a Classical Mage!" Kaka peeked out from behind Liu Zhenshake, sticking his head out half-way as he loudly argued, "He’s a genuine idol-level Mage!"
Kaka’s flattery turned Liu Zhenshake’s face a brilliant shade of crimson.
The so-called "Classical Mage" was a pride of magical history. Mages of this school refused to learn magic designed for war or slaughter, instead valuing and researching magic that benefited the masses.
With his innate abilities, Liu Zhenshake’s combative magic repertoire included only one spell—"Pick Flower Finger."
Even that Floral Magic had a restrictive principle: "Harm your foe, harm yourself first." Among the current magical schools, he truly was the last Classical Mage standing.
Those words were probably something Avril exaggerated to impress that pale pretty boy.
"On the battlefield, a Classical Mage is less useful than a cook! Your Majesty the Flower King, you’re just like your Magic Protector regiment leader!" Elise swept an icy glare toward the smug little white-faced Druid, giving Liu Zhenshake no face at all. "You two are walking examples of ’unstoppable in duels, useless in skirmishes.’ At best, mercenary-level Mages with a ragtag crew!"
"Say anything about me if you want, but leave Xiao Bei out of it! His mastery of magic group battle tactics is leagues above what you could fathom! Do you even understand the 4-4-2 formation? The 3-5-2 formation? Do you comprehend what a Magic Sweeper or Magic Freelancer is?" Liu Zhenshake couldn’t stand anyone belittling his beloved subordinate. "My Magic Protector regiment employs the most orthodox Saint Francisco royal battle formations! Your Majesty the Flower Queen, this is no longer the era of a thousand years ago when Mages were herded like ducks to scatter their spells haphazardly! Scientific battle formations now compensate for the lack of assistance from Sifs for Mages. Optimal command covers every detail! I despise fools who pretend to be experts, cling to ancient traditions, and blindly glorify the past!"
"If you solve the Mist Concealment Pearl issue, I swear to stop disparaging your regiment leader! I’ll even comply with whatever else you demand!" The Aegean Flower’s face flushed with rage.
"See? Master Puskas always taught me to bear the world in my heart. You seem to care even more than me, more righteous than I am!" Liu Zhenshake hugged Avril, grinning as he glanced at Elise.
"Rexa never just talks like you do. He acts!" Elise had no idea how provocative her words were to the Flower King. "For heroes of the same era, why is there such a vast difference?"
"Obischillaci!" The Mermaid Princess trembled with anger. "Richard! Teach this brat a lesson! She’s too arrogant! What Rexa? You’d punch him all the way into the Seia Ocean!"
"Who’s Rexa? And what’s this ’Magic Protector’ thing?" Kaka looked foolishly at Old Liu, then at the two beautiful women locking gazes like spears and shields meeting.
"The Magic Protector is my magician regiment, consisting of freshwater Mermaids, Sif Elves, Golden Dwarves, and a handful of Elves and humans. In critical moments, even dozens of Giants and Shepherd-tree People can be mobilized to assist!" Liu Zhenshake added with disgruntlement, "Rexa is our Beamon war god reincarnated."
"Holy crap!" The little white-faced Druid’s eyes bulged larger than a bear’s without even transforming.
"So you do know," Elise sneered. "All era idols, and I just can’t figure you out. Besides whining, wasting more than half your time and life on women, what else can you do?"
"Damn it, I really want to smack you!" Liu Zhenshake, now mortified, finally lost his temper.
In just over a year, this man, who barely needed sleep, had spent at least half his time dallying among flowers and women as a divine representative, to the point where Liu Zhenshake himself was embarrassed to admit it—others achieve great undertakings through hardship and diligence. How had the rules changed so absurdly for him?
"This woman is obviously jealous," Avril suddenly chuckled.
"Me? Jealous of him? Mermaid Princess, are you joking?" Elise cast a disdainful glance at Old Liu.
"Oh, please. If you won’t even consider Richard, there really isn’t a man in this world who could meet your standards!" Avril pouted dramatically. "I was even more arrogant than you back in the day, but it was just an act. Deep down, I’d already decided to give in. Once you let him into your bed, let’s see if you can keep up that tough front!"
