Chapter 1523: Chapter 454: The First Step in the Heavenly King Election_3
It turned out to be His Majesty Jia Bao, the Witch King from the Coast Contribution Continent, who appeared on the balcony, waving to his subjects.
The direction facing the Martial Arts Platform happened to align perfectly with the balcony of the Witch King’s palace, officially marking the beginning of the contest for the Throne of Heaven!
Two impatient aerial knights were quicker than the others, flying to the platform first. After saluting His Majesty the Witch King, they clashed in combat under everyone’s watchful gaze.
The distance was truly too far. Even with Liu Zhenhuan’s sharp eyesight, he could only just make out the two aerial knights in the sky as Dread Knights. However, from afar, these two Dread Knights looked more like two black beetles.
"This isn’t going to work! When will we actually get to see the Throne of Heaven contest with our own eyes?" Succubus Suosuo Ming pouted in frustration. In the crowded throng, countless groping hands had forced her to hug herself tightly as she inched forward bit by bit.
"The area around the Martial Arts Platform is practically reserved for the wealthy elites; there’s no way we can squeeze in!" her brother yelled to console her, as the complaints and grumbles from those around them were equally loud.
At this moment, the brother and sister pair couldn’t even use Arcane Magic to ascend. They were barely three feet off the ground and would be knocked away if they moved carelessly.
"I feel like the true experts will only show up on the last day! Look, there’s not a single Winged Knight in sight!" Priest Shabi gasped for breath, pushed back by a particularly obese ghoul.
"Why would the experts only show up on the last day?" Liu Zhenhuan asked curiously. "It seems like so many people are desperately waiting to get on stage now!"
"With ten days of defending the platform, no Winged Knight would join the contest right from the start! These guys aren’t here to vie for the Throne of Heaven. They’re just trying to put on a performance under the watchful eyes of His Majesty the Witch King and the military leaders, hoping to secure direct recruitment into the army!" Soreskia’s baby-faced features were almost distorted from being squeezed so hard.
"Damn it, I should’ve just stayed in the library reading." Liu Zhenhuan was growing irritated from being shoved around. He turned and gave a hell demon a hard kick, sending it sprawling and knocking down several others.
"Brother Karu, why don’t you just go up first? If you win today, we might be able to secure a spot closer to the front along the official pathway tomorrow!" Mafaliena urged Old Liu relentlessly. Of the four adventurers, the Hellcave Female Archer was the one who got along best with him.
"Alright, then! You guys wait here for me!" Old Liu clenched his fists, carved a human-sized pathway through the crowd, and glared fiercely at the area around him. Amid countless fiery, hostile glares, he suddenly stepped onto the Blood Moon Flying Wheel and launched into the air.
In an instant, he reached the platform thousands of feet away. The duel between the two Dread Knights had just concluded. One had sustained a gash on his arm from his opponent’s claw. Still unwilling to yield, he fought on, but another swipe across his face sent him tumbling from the sky in retreat, scattering a trail of blood in mid-air.
The Demon Clan aerial knights encircling the Martial Arts Platform promptly replaced the departing contender with an Obsidian Destroyer, who prepared to salute His Majesty the Witch King on the palace balcony alongside the victor. Liu Zhenhuan, however, swaggered onto the platform, landing beside them atop his flying wheel.
The Dread Knight and the Obsidian Destroyer squinted at the silver-eyed man, who clearly lacked a sense of decorum. They exchanged curious glances, puzzled as to why he had ascended using a flying wheel. While they were still wondering, the man silently drew his longsword.
"Friend, aren’t you being a bit hasty?" The towering Dread Knight, over four meters tall, grinned broadly. His massive bat-like black wings flared upward, whipping up gusts of wind as he ascended into the air.
His pallid face and cold smile exuded an aura of hardship. The sharp claws and fierce scars etched across his visage marked him as a seasoned warrior from countless battles. In the past, this type of aerial unit served as instructors for the Gargoyle Flight Corps and engaged in relentless skirmishes with the Beamon Harpy warriors. On today’s Aegean Continent, apart from the Summer Palace’s aerial forces and the Holy Vatican’s Gryphon Knights, there were few who could stand against such skilled Dread Knights.
"Silver Eyes always seems this impatient!" The Obsidian Destroyer laughed arrogantly. He flapped his colorful wings, creating a gust as he spun the meteor hammers in his hands. His immense half-stone, half-human body gracefully rose from the platform.
The Obsidian Destroyer, massive in size, excelled at supporting Arcane Magic. Once they mastered both magic and combat, they became a formidable challenge for anyone.
Liu Zhenhuan flashed a silent smile. A cold gleam flickered, and the longsword in his hands shot out, piercing the chest of the airborne Dread Knight like a harpoon spearing a toad.
The Dread Knight’s claws, as tough as steel, tried to block the strike, but they too were pinned together against his sturdy chest!
At the same moment, two Blood Moon Flying Wheels shot out from beneath Old Liu’s feet, spinning toward the Obsidian Destroyer and hacking into the roots of his two wings. The razor-sharp wheels buzzed like a chainsaw, making a crisp, shredding sound as they severed the two vibrant wings amidst a spray of blood.
Though these Demon Clan aerial knights were veterans accustomed to life-and-death battles and had prepared defenses in advance, they hadn’t expected their opponent’s viciousness or ruthlessness. There was no time to dodge, no way to block—one died instantly, while the other was severely injured. With two dull thuds, both landed heavily on the platform beneath them.
Liu Zhenhuan planted a foot firmly on the Dread Knight, who, with blood gushing from his lips and his eyes wide open, continued to twitch in a death spasm. Liu Zhenhuan yanked his battle sword from the Dread Knight’s chest, ripping away four bloody claw fragments in the process.
The blade of his unpolished battle sword still bore traces of blood. Had it been one of Felincia’s standard-issue weapons, the blood would have already condensed and dripped cleanly from the sword’s tip with a "plop." Shaking his head, Liu Zhenhuan bent down to lift the Dread Knight’s tunic and wiped the blood stains from his sword.
The Obsidian Destroyer, now wingless but still gripping his meteor hammer, slowly and incredulously rose from the platform. He stared dumbfoundedly at Liu Zhenhuan.
Liu Zhenhuan turned back, his cold gaze locking onto the Obsidian Destroyer.
Even though he had withdrawn all his elemental power, the dominance and fierceness in his silver eyes sent the Obsidian Destroyer into a frozen panic, as if plunged into an icy abyss.
Liu Zhenhuan pointed his sword in the direction of the platform’s edge.
Under the intimidation of his gaze, the heavily wounded Obsidian Destroyer, unbelievably, obediently leapt off the platform.
A thunderous uproar of exclamations echoed all around.
