Chapter 1522: Chapter 454: The First Step of the Heavenly King Election
The only thing Liu Zhenhan could feel fortunate about was that the Demon World had not yet unearthed the "Mailman Crystal." If they possessed such a top-tier crystal capable of traversing different spatial dimensions, there would be no need for the Witch King to painstakingly break open space to invade Aegean!
Looking over the past ten thousand years of the Demon World, the rebellion of the abomination warriors was the only piece of news that Old Liu could secretly take delight in hearing.
Abomination warriors were originally war machines created by the Demon Clan, stitched together from incomplete corpses and imbued with simple thought processes via Arcane magic, controlled by liches. Over the years, the Demon Clan’s techniques for crafting abomination warriors had already reached astonishing levels of sophistication. Liches collaborating with dwarf artisans were now able to replace the stitched flesh at critical parts with crystal components, transforming abomination warriors into formidable "mechanized abomination warriors!"
Ten thousand years ago, abomination warriors were not equipped with armor. This was partly because the Demon Clan’s metal resources were insufficiently abundant, and partly because metal created a barrier to elemental power, rendering it unusable even if sufficient metal existed for equipment.
But ever since the Demon Clan received assistance from dwarves, they had begun to develop extensive crystal mines. Unlike metal, crystal did not obstruct elemental power!
Liu Zhenhan could easily imagine how terrifying these war machines became, with abomination warriors, originally only destructible by destroying their heads, now suddenly covered entirely in crystal comparable to metal in durability.
Whether it was a stroke of luck for the Aegean Continent or misfortune for the Demon Clan, approximately 4,000 years ago, the mechanized abomination warriors controlled by the liches unexpectedly evolved complete intelligence under the inspiration of Arcane magic.
In preparation for the wars occurring once every ten thousand years, the Demon Clan systematically and extensively manufactured large numbers of abomination warriors!
To escape their enslavement, five million mechanized abomination warriors launched a powerful rebellion. The Demon Clan suffered greatly in dealing with these warriors, whose physical combat capabilities were astonishing. Half of the 257 bone dragons created from giant dragon skeletons plundered from Aegean were consumed in the war!
Liu Zhenhan felt genuinely pleased upon hearing this news.
Though the Demon Clan had invested so heavily, the massive rebellion of the abomination warriors was never entirely suppressed. Approximately two million mechanized abomination warriors had, for many years, firmly occupied an underground city on the Bollywood Continent, stubbornly holding their ground!
These mechanized abomination warriors didn’t require food or drink, and the underground city was excessively vast. Faced with these impenetrable, unstoppable iron hedgehogs, the Demon Clan ultimately had no choice but to grudgingly accept this stalemate.
Currently, the Demon Clan had issued a decree: aside from liches of Golia rank and above, no lower-level liches were permitted to recklessly create mechanized abomination warriors. Even liches of Golia rank or higher were limited to owning no more than ten to forty mechanized abomination warriors at most, to prevent the scenario of a lich controlling an excessive number of warriors, losing mental control, and allowing these abomination warriors to independently evolve intelligence, wreaking havoc!
Three days flew by in the blink of an eye, during which Liu Zhenhan and his four companions immersed themselves in the library, voraciously studying everything they wished to learn and silently listening to the impassioned, provocative speeches of the youth in the auditorium.
Facing the Demon World clans, who viewed death as a return to the embrace of their gods—with relatives singing and dancing in celebration—Liu Zhenhan couldn’t help but feel a tinge of pessimism when contemplating the Aegean Continent’s future destiny.
When the selection for the titular king unfolded, his pessimism was immediately swept away by the imminent combat.
When it was time to act, even if he felt hesitant beforehand, Old Liu would still be fearless in taking bold action.
This Left Bank King’s selection was held on a Martial Arts Platform tens of meters high in the center of Casablanca City.
According to information from his four companions, such lofty Martial Arts Platforms function similarly to Beamon gladiator arenas or human colosseums.
Aside from official competitions, private feuds could also be resolved on these high-altitude, open-air platforms as long as a notary was present. Anyone who fell from the platform—unless they were from a flying race—was undoubtedly doomed to die!
On the day of the competition, the entirety of Casablanca City was packed with a dense sea of people. Not only was the ground crowded, but even the sky was swarming with flying Demon Clan members, in such numbers that one couldn’t find a foothold. Every rooftop was already occupied.
Liu Zhenhan and his four companions were being swept along within the crowd. The dungeon archer Mafaliena, crawling on all fours, kept having her small claws trampled, letting out yelps of pain.
The sheer number of people was overwhelming, making it impossible to move closer to the towering platform. The lich Soreskia was jumping up and down in anxiety.
Liu Zhenhan found it slightly peculiar—on either side of the avenue, there was a tree-lined path enclosed by stone railings. Though not wide, it was sufficient for five people to walk abreast. Yet no matter how crowded it became, not a single Demon Clan member dared to climb over the stone barrier and walk on that path.
"This is the official road," Soreskia explained to Old Liu with a hint of envy. "This road is reserved exclusively for nobles summoned by the Witch King. No matter how urgent the situation is, no one else is allowed to use it!"
Suddenly, a deafening cheer swept across the entire city. In the enclosed underground city, the immense wave of sound reverberated in everyone’s ears like thunder.
